To question Leam Richardson’s judgement is absolutely ridiculous. He knows exactly what is required and will plan for the championship accordingly. Some of you are acting like kids in the back seat of a car going on holiday, “are we there yet?”
This squad has now had a full season together and that means a lot in football. 3 or 4 new signings will make a massive impact and I’m sure Leam and Mal will be working hard to get them.
Don’t think its an easy job bringing in players, there’s a load of other teams trying to do the same in the Championship, 3 with pockets bulging courtesy of parachute payments.
So sit back, stop panicking and see what happens in the coming weeks.
Oh and by the way, if you haven’t already seen it, read the article that Mal Brannigan has wrote on the official site about recruitment. He tells you exactly what this windows recruitment policy is all about for our club. Once again they have it bang on in my opinion.Far too much sense spoken there jr, are you sure you are a Tics fan?
1 July 2022 at 11:50 pm #196641Well, football is a game of opinions.
Here is mine. The squad as it is, will struggle and I think we will have our arses served to us a good few times this season. I think we might have a shock against Preston, and certainly against Norwich too. I think we will then panic a little when we realise we are short
Its a worry that last season we were half the side without McClean in it. And this season he will be playing at a higher standard, a much higher standard. He won’t cope in that left wing back role as quicker teams and faster players will catch him out. Last season he struggled against Lyndon Gooch. I love McClean going forward though.
I think theres a bigger gap now between League One and The Championship, as Peterborough showed last season. A good, strong side in League One, they struggled badly in The Championship. Its a worry. We hardly blew a quite mediocre League One apart, didn’t we? We struggled against the more classier outfits, and also against well drilled sides such as Cambridge and Fleetwood. I am really worried how we will fair this coming season. Show faith to last seaons lads? There’s no place for sentiment in football. No room for ‘jobs for the boys’, they’re either good enough, or they aren’t.
Off the field, ultimately I think the club has let the euphoria of last seasons success ebb away. They haven’t kept momentum up. This could/should have been kept stoked to whet peoples appetites? Get a big multi clip of previous successes and goals against PNE, with a lively sound track and a big build up to the seasons opener. Chuck in some bit by bit new kit teasers also. We just arent doing enough/anything. Do a prize draw to win the mystery new shirt…or maybe a shirt signed by last seasons champions? Little things like that. I follow a lot of other clubs and watch what they’re up to with things like this. Latics have been silent. Matchday tickets? Maybe look at doing a ‘Five For £75’ book of 5 tickets, to entice those who can’t commit to a full season ticket.
Just ideas…ideas…ideas. We all just want whats best and to see us prosper.2 July 2022 at 10:04 pm #196642I must have imagined the regular social media posts about last season and past goals against the sides we will play next season. Add to that a kit teaser from Talal and his regular Q&A sessions and I don’t think the club can be classed as silent exactly.
Then again….bloody rubbish Wigan.

Last season is gone. The recap videos have only been put out because theres nothing new to put out. We are literally about to play in a whole different level.
And some 3rd party club employee ghosting Q and A sessions for Talal…come on, you dont actually think Talal is sat there on his laptop do you? You must be gullible if you really do think that.
I’ve not seen a new kit teaser, anywhere.
Personally, I think its going to be a very hard season ahead and the club are taking a big gamble in giving it a shot with the players we’ve got. We struggled over the line last season, in what was a very poor League One. I think we could get of to a start that sees us like Rabbits in car headlights, if we aren’t careful. Gut feeling is it could take us 5 games or more into the season before we get any points onboard.
First season since 86 Ive not renewed. 4 of us havent yet, but the other 3 will be probably. I dont want the commitment because I know Im already missing certain games through work and other commitments. But ultimately I am just NOT excited at all about the coming season. We weren’t particularly strong at the back end of last season, and for me throughout a League One season we didnt exactly power our way to promotion. We will certainly have to up our tempo. I think we need players in to help us do that, because if we try and play that tippy tappy out of defence, slow tempo shite this season, we will get punished by cery clinical sides. Not recruiting wisely could really come back to haunt us. We will see. I hope Leam is a strong enough character to speak up ifnwe do start off bad and looking short. In the grand scheme of things, these new owners havent chucked much money at things yet. Leam actually worked wonders to get that side together last season, for practically nothing. But the Championship is a different thing alltogether.
3 July 2022 at 8:04 am #196644MK & Rotherham struggled towards the end too. Yet we WON the league. So things can’t have been that bad. Anyway! I thought you had stopped going Vat.
3 July 2022 at 8:17 am #196645As I posted above, I’m not renewing for first time since 1986. Will go a game here and there. Will likely never struggle to get a ticket, lets be honest. I will see how things are at Christmas and maybe by a half season ticket if we are doing alright. I’m already unable to go to Preston and Blackburn games due to other commitments, and I think more will crop up as the season goes.

Sorry, but I just don’t get why you are not renewing. Fair enough if you have already got other commitments but to not re new because you think it’s going to be a hard season ? After all we have been through as a club ,we might not have been in existence but for Talal so I am just glad we have got a club to go and watch and I am made up that we are ahead of schedule and we have made it back to our rightful place in the Championship. I think it will be hard but I also think we will be OK and I am sure we will make a couple of shrewd signings. Get down there man ,come on Latics !
3 July 2022 at 10:00 am #196647As I’ve said I’m already unavailable for some games, and more will crop up. So not going to commit to a ST I won’t use.
I have other reasons for not doing as well, which I don’t want to go into on here. But ultimately, I think I’ve just lost interest. You may find this hard to understand, but I didn’t really enjoy last season. I thought there were times when what I was watching was pretty dire. We made hard work of a lot of games and whenever we came up against any half decent side, we cocked up. We got very lucky at Cambridge and Fleetwood, who were just also-ran teams. We made Bolton look really good for half an hour and made Sunderland and Sheff Wed look like worldbeaters. It was a poor league and I wasnt impressed with us. I dont like that passing out of our own penalty box, at all. Do that this next season and we will come unstuck.
I just stopped enjoying it. I couldn’t lift myself to get excited about winning the title on the last day, never went to party in the park, never celebrated it.Thats just my reality. I dont expect others to agree at all, but that says how mybinterest has waned. Not just Latics, football in general.
3 July 2022 at 10:19 am #196648Division One is a tough League and not much football is played. It’s about winning the battle and you are right a lot of games were not easy on the eye but we won the League and I am sure clubs like Ipswich ,Sheffield Wed etc would love to swap places with us. The bigger picture is that we want to progress and eventually get back to the Premier League. This season is about transition , I have every faith Leam Richardson will get it right ,I am sure he knows exactly what we need to be competitive in the Championship. I think we all have times in our lives when football becomes secondary to other things going on and you become less enthusiastic but for me Latics is something I could not live without, all the ups and downs the joy the despair , I love it !
3 July 2022 at 2:56 pm #196650I’m sorry VAT but I have to completely disagree with your post. After what this club went through 2 years ago with the strong possibility that it very nearly went bust, you are complaining about the odd dire performance? Your memory must be extremely short.
Give me dire performances every week if it means I still have a club to support.
3 July 2022 at 5:27 pm #196651Who said were panicking drama queen???.
Were mearly pointing out there’s no rumours and the manager saying he’s going to give our current squad all a chance.
That’s fair enough but, are they good enough ?.
I see Jordan Jones is off, so is that 6 out zero in ?. We need bodies in nevermind strengthen. I just hope our owners and manager work wonders, now not Jan3 July 2022 at 5:53 pm #196652I must have imagined the regular social media posts about last season and past goals against the sides we will play next season. So last season is gone, but you want the club to post goals from years gone by (which they’ve done) to get you excited? Muppet.
First season since 86 Ive not renewed.
Good, fuck off and don’t come back.

Talal, sorry the 3rd party employee, said on the cup anniversary that the away kit will be black and gold and a throwback to that kit. He (they) also shared a picture of the neck on the back which has a silhouette of the cup and 11th May 2013 on. Good enough for me. Oh, and we’ve seen the 3rd kit too.
