Yes of course, the club on the edge of bankruptcy (again) inflated the crowd so we could pay more tax……
30 August 2009 at 3:34 am #7316The average attendance in the season we were relegated (1992-93) was 2,593.The lowest ever average since joining the football league was during the 1994-95 season when the average was 1,748.
So the facts show that we have never had an average of 1,200 over a full season.
Hope this stops just a little bit of the bickering on here. Every little helps!!!!
There’s a bit of a graphic error at the moment, but the information is there…
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
30 August 2009 at 12:44 pm #7318Yes of course, the club on the edge of bankruptcy (again) inflated the crowd so we could pay more tax……At the time there was an article in a football magazine when the then club’s commercial manager (Linda Fillingham) admitted that if the crowd was 3,999 she would never give out a crowd of less than 4,000. I don’t think it happened all the time, I am giving you my first hand account of that day, and even after getting used to crowds of under 1,500, it was still down by 500 on that that particular day. What’s your view of the crowd that day, or were you at the rugby with the rest of Wigan?
Oh and club’s on the verge of bankruptcy and running at a loss don’t generally pay tax.

And that has got to do with what ?[/quote
I have been going to watch Wigan with my Dad for 30 plus years and can’t understand why people on hear have ago at our new fans.
Would we want our crowds back to 1200? I think not. We need to attract more fans as to be quite honest our crowds at times are enbarrassing.
So that means more glory hunters although supporting Wigan does not bring much glory. I would rather have new Wigan Athletic fans than watch the muppets walk round Wigan with there United, Liverpool and now City shirts.
Come on the people of Wigan we need your support at the DW.
30 August 2009 at 1:57 pm #7324VAT69, can you please elucidate to us all what a “Band wagoner” is ? I for one have never proclaimed to have been at Goole in 1980 or Frickley in whatever distant year gone by. I started going on about a third way through the season we came up from Championship. Now since my first game I have NEVER missed an home game. Am I a “Band wagoner” or a relatively new fan. A fcukin good one at that !

My one and only season of going to every home and away match was the season we went down, so I remember it quite well.
