Recent events at the DW have finally explained the real reason behind our lacklustre displays this season.
It wasn’t about “sh*te formations”, “sh*te managers”, “sh*te chairman”, “sh*te backroom staff”, or “sh*te players” after all, it was about human nature. It was about a core of players who had no concern about anything other than their next contract. They were not prepared to break sweat for a club which had enabled them to enjoy a privileged lifestyle and to win one of the highest prizes in English football. Instead they chose to go through the motions until the club was forced to get rid of them or until they became free agents.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held their fellow players.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held fans, especially those who travelled many miles to support them.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held their managers, getting two of them sacked in the process.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held Dave Whelan who has brought us up from obscurity to a club known the world over.
I am not one to bear grudges but I do hope that the remainder of their careers (they know who they are!) go downhill from here on.
I really hope that Malky has got rid of the rotten core now and we can all start to enjoy our football again although I fear it may be too late. We must all be patient and hope that the new team can gell quickly enough to save us from relegation.
Good luck Malky and the New Latics. I am looking forward to the rest of the season with renewed excitement and I have a good feeling about it.
5 February 2015 at 12:06 am #139163That’s all in your opinion of course, the lads still here haven’t helped the cause too much either, have they? Somehow they are being lorded has the 100%ers. Until we start winning games and looking like a team under Malky, formations, tactics etc your post would appear premature.
The ones gone have become the scapegoats because they’ve gone and they were worth something or out of contract in the summer.
The club made the decision to sell, release, end contracts. At worst it was by mutual consent.I’d rather thank them for some fantastic times rather than bear a grudge.
Let’s hope Saturday sees an improvement and we actually create some chances, rather than being bored to tears.
5 February 2015 at 12:14 am #139165I won’t be drawn Tez – life must be a barrel of laughs at your house with such a positive outlook.
5 February 2015 at 1:23 am #139167That’s all in your opinion of course,It’s also an opinion I share as do many of my friends. I too share the sentiments of Owd Git and hope that their carers go downhill. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour.
The king is dead… long live the king.
5 February 2015 at 1:42 am #139168Well we’ll see soon enough won’t we?
Just don’t see how you can assume so much and dress it up like it’s a fact and in the process hope players careers fail, some of whom helped win us the FA Cup.
Poor show imo
5 February 2015 at 2:32 am #139171The truth will out. If they start putting in MOM performances and get rave reviews from the fans at their new clubs then we will know they were malingerers. If not we will know that most of us were right in that they were just sh*te.
5 February 2015 at 2:57 am #139172We saw how well Maloney played for Scotland then was at best lacklustre for us. No need to spill the beans with him.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!6 February 2015 at 4:33 am #139194Recent events at the DW have finally explained the real reason behind our lacklustre displays this season. What?? And exactly what evidence are you basing this on? The fact that we managed to get a clean sheet draw away from home against a top 4 team in our first game without our “rotten core”. As there is no more evidence than that at the moment. Shame on you for such blinkered rantings.
Why is it that so many on here can’t see past the players for why we’re in so much trouble?
Trent – so unless they stay at Wigan putting in a shift they can’t win right? If she doesn’t drown she’s a witch, if she does drown at least we know she wasn’t.
And JR – really? Not like you that post. Couldn’t it be possible that the reason Maloney played so well for Scotland was because he was motivated to do so through strong management and good tactics?

And I think that its wrong to just blame the management too.
In reality what was/is wrong is a combination of things including a poor attitude from some players, poor management & bad signings in the first place.I think its important not to underplay the role of the players though – I said to a mate just after Xmas that the way the squad was performing reminded me very much of the situation that Paul Jewell inherited when he took over. A bloated squad with many on big money wages thinking they should be playing for bigger & better clubs who had seen a conveyor belt of managers come & go in quick succession.
The way some of the squad had reacted to Coyle contributed in no small part to getting him the push & likewise with Rosler (that’s in no way meant to absolve the managers themselves of responsibility coz they both made plenty of mistakes of their own) and its inevitable that some of the players start to think that they’re the ones who count more
Couple with the psychological impact of the semi-final defeat, missing out on promotion, having to spend at least another season at a level many think they’re too good for and seeing their contracts coming to an end & looking for moves away & it creates a toxic atmosphere in the squad which can also impact on the new signings brought in.
Its seems exactly like what Jewell was faced with & it took him about 5-6 months to turn that around & he to had to fire off many of the players who, although good on paper, just didn’t seem to be putting a shift in.Admittedly its all conjecture but something wasn’t right within the squad & whilst you can blame the manager for selections, formations, signings & the rest some of what we’ve seen has just been rank bad play from players who we know are far better than that
6 February 2015 at 1:20 pm #139196Which players are you referring to Git ? Some sweeping statements there man I have to say! I am genuinely interested in who you mean though!

I don’t understand how you can attribute this to “human nature” and then go into a rant about certain players.
What would you have done to motivate those players better?
We weren’t in a position to offer them a new contract with equal or higher wages.
Maybe this could have been possible if we gained promotion and this might be the reason we didn’t actively try to sell these players last summer. When it became apparent we were in a relegation battle and now fighting for promotion we had to get rid of these players.
As much as I wish they would have shown more pride for our club in their final season, it is natural to have one eye on potential new clubs.
On the field our team needed to re-group for the relegation battle with new faces. Conclusion is that it was in everybody’s interest for certain players to leave now which is why the mass exodus happened so quickly.
6 February 2015 at 3:24 pm #139202I’ve pointed to the players all along and the lack of the ‘new manager syndrome’ under Mackay is the basis for it.
They didn’t like Coyle so did what they could to get rid. Rosler came in and we were a different side. Then he apparently lost the dressing room and they got rid of him. We’ve been the same shower under Mackay though as we were under Rosler so I don’t believe that that was the reason.
I was willing to give Rosler time to bring his players in and then judge him and it wasn’t good. I’m willing to give Malky the same. He’s brought some good looking signings in so here’s hoping.
6 February 2015 at 6:04 pm #139205Who Egg? Maybe the Liverpool lad possibly?
The lack of new manager syndrome is because of the shitestorm which engulfed him when he landed. Under other circumstances he may have got off to a flying start.
Then he started doing what Rosler did, messing about with the team in such a way we were never going to score many goals, certainly not enough to cover our shite defence (Ramis excepted). I think he tried to play too many of our ‘stars’ who all happened to be midfielders. At no point do I think the players weren’t trying to win football games and I suppose that’s where opinions differ.
6 February 2015 at 6:15 pm #139206Interesting article
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2941681/Cristiano-Ronaldo-filthy-rich-hungry-success.html“It is a rare breed of young sportsmen who get filthy rich overnight yet are still hungry for success, year in year out.
Rather, once they have shot to fame and fortune they disappear up their own ego, then reappear in night clubs.”6 February 2015 at 6:31 pm #139208Who Egg? All of them impress me and I think we’ve strengthened in every position.
Malky was trying to get the best of the bad bunch he had.
You clearly aren’t a fan of Mackay and no doubt if we get out of this you will praise someone else as opposed to him. I on the other hand am willing to give the guy time.
