the old battle song perfectly summarises what is currently missing, and outlines what is both required and desired

those of us bothering to go on tuesday night should encourage the players (and management) accordingly

You can still attack with 451 – ask Arsenal.

Trick is, being patient when it’s right to do so and attacking quickly at all other times.

Needs clever and talented players to make it work well – ah well!

A more attacking formation than recent weeks with Di Santo up front and Rodellaga & Zog supporting from the wings. I’d also be tempted to start with McArthur.

Is it my imagination or do we actually play a bit better in night matches. The crowd have to play their part too , drummer boy get at it from the first whistle and as Andy says attack , attack , attack.

This can be our Save Our Season game just like West Ham’s against us. Lets get at em and shut those moaning b*****d darksiders up !!!

Squire – I’d be tempted to start with McCarthY, if he was fit enough to be on the bench on Saturday.

We certainly looked better second half Saturday, with Di Santo and Rodallega on the pitch

so oh wise sage -what do you do if you don’t have those type of players ?

most managers would adapt their game plan/methods to suit what they have, but martinez still ploughs the same furrow week in week out and its killing us, the crowd and players all know it, the only person who doesnt know it seems is martinez, even his most ardent supporters on the message boards are now at the ‘hope we survive’ stage or making noises about life in the championship.

you have ridiculed me when i predicted what would happen to us if martinez persisted with what he was doing – and that was after a pre season friendly in august 2009 and at regular intervals since.

you griff and other martinez champions claimed this new renaissance we were experiencing was the way foward, when in fact, despite one or two all too brief highs, it was becoming more mistake ridden and monotonously boring with each passing game and player addition, many blame the players or whelan even for restricting funds, well out of 14 players involved on saturday no less than 9 were ‘bobby’s boys’ and of the other 5 on show 3 of them are our most saleable assets who may be gone later this week.

as i have said in another thread martinez also was the 9th highest spender in the premier league last summer and that includes 6.5 million down the pan on bosselli.

what arsenal do griff is play to their strengths, perhaps we should also, we would still go to the emirates and lose but perhaps we may take some pride from giving it a go.

martinez has had his chance and failed i only hope that when whelan does eventually sack him, probably when we are in a relegation fight in the championship, the damage being caused by this man is repairable.

As predicted earlier in the season, people wait to say I told you so about Martinez. Well I hope you feel happy that we are in this situation.

The rest of us, who I would call supporters of the club, are trying to get behind the manager and support what gets put out infront of us. We arent overlords for the footballing world who can change things instantly, all we can do to influence the game is what we say on the terraces/stands.

You know if I were Figgy, I would play cr*p every week and take the pay cheque every month. As when players step out on the field and are instantly criticised by their own fans, which could possibly be the people on this forum (The doom bringers), why would you bother.

Ge behind the team and go down with dignity or stay up in glory.

Do you feel better after all that? I never once said it would work as well as it does at Arsenal, just that I hoped it would.

Regardless of that, He has a point though Griff. Bobby talked yet again after Saturday’s match of “learning lessons” from the defeat
Bar improving the defence/keeper situation from last season I don’t think he’s learnt a single lesson during the 18 months he’s been in charge
I can take Latics getting beat, I can take us getting relegated & I can take our best players being sold & replaced with inferior ones & I will support a manager who learns from his mistakes & that’s why I can’t support Bobby continuing as manager at this club because he makes the same mistakes over & over & over & over again – quite what it is gonna take for him to realise that his system isn’t working & he doesn’t have the players capable of playing that system successfully is beyond me

I don’t dispute that he has a point, I never have.

And as for changing the way we play, my view is that we are simply not good enough as a group of players no matter what way we play. As I have said many, many times, I would be very happy for him to give it a go and prove me – and himself – wrong.

Nobody wants to hear me say that though because it doesn’t fit in with “Griff thinks Bobby’s a genius and is 10 inches* deep in him all day long”. It might be an eye opener for some of my ‘critics’ to sit next to me from time to time and listen to me criticise the team and manager – that’s not an invitation, by the way.

              * I wish – the 10 inches bit that is, not the deep in him bit

No offence but what a load of rubbish.
Who are the true supporters?? The ones who slavishly back up a quite clearly incompetent manager no matter how many mistakes he makes & now matter how few lessons he learns from those mistakes or those who do not want to see the club they love run so poorly (from a football management point of view) & can see that the only way at present to improve Latics situation is to get rid of said buffoon
You can clap, chant & support Martinez all you want coz it aint gonna change a single thing. His incompetence, pig headedness & inability to learn from his mistakes will only take Latics one way.
Ys its unlikely that our spell in the top flight would have lasted forever but when it ended I would have liked to have seen it do so with some real guts & fight not the dreary, inspid, passionless rubbish that’s been served up since August 2009

As for blaming the way Figueroa is playing on fans criticising him – do me a favour. The way he’s been playing this season he’s lucky to still be getting a pay cheque let alone not bother to try coz some people are getting on his back. When a player frequently plays so poorly as to make fundamental errors such as the one that gave Damien Duff a free run at goal the other week or completely leaves Van Persie to score the opener at the weekend then I think that the stick he’s been getting is far milder than he’d be getting at other clubs
i read that Villa & Sunderland are battling it out to win an £8mill race for his signature before the 31st. They want their feckin heads testin if its true & I’d snap their hands off for an 8th of that amount
