Sort of best moments from fa cup history. Switched on late and no sign of us. Wimbledon’s victory came on as third so I thought hey up we must be second or even first choice. But no whoever combined this top fifty didn’t see it that way. Did anyone watch the show and if so where did they place us.
I know we would have an obvious bias but surely our victory must be one of the biggest days in the cups history and in my eyes even bigger or equal to Wimbledon’s achievement which was fantastic in its own right.

Did the show include any moments from the “ITV” period? 2008 to 2014?

If not, then there is your answer.

Many thanks Garswood. It would be great for us to put together our own top 50 Latics FA Cup moments.
15th best moment in FA Cup history is pretty fantastic but what about the Harry Lyon hat trick as a most amazing story or the Norwich and Chelsea victories.
Fucking hell I love our club!!!

Really? You’d struggle to know that, at times

Our win was the greatest upset ever but we will never be afforded the accolades we richly deserve. Wimbledon’s win over Liverpool always seems to be most remembered yet if you put things into context I cannot see how.

A few reasons I put our win above the Don’s.

Wimbledon’s win was a bit of a smash and grab and they had a whole lot of luck in the fact Liverpool somehow missed a penalty whereas we thoroughly deserved it and were the better team on the day.

Wimbledon won it when the first division was evenly matched and everybody could beat everybody. We did it in the Olligarch, Arab Sheik and American tycoon billionaire era when the Premier league had teams spending obscene amounts on players and wages and had a top and bottom split within the division.

The 1988 final was the last game of the season whereas we had to play Arsenal 4 days later in a game that saw us relegated.

Obviously as a Wigan fan I’m gonna come across as biased but to me the above points make our victory the most amazing and certainly above Wimbledon’s.

The financial gap im our win would be akin to Liverpool losing to us in 88. I think the City front two cost more than our squad did.

Liverpool were champions in 88 but Wimbledon actually finished 7th yet it is seen as one of the biggest upsets of all time. I simply don’t see it. If it was Sunderland beating dirty Leeds it may be understandable.

I repeat what I’ve previously said that the magnitude of what was achieved that day will only be realised with the passage of time. The fact that next season we start in the first round is reminder enough that the feat is never likely to be repeated. Think yourselves lucky it happened in your lifetime.

Besides the point that we view our win through rose-tinted glasses (and I agree fully it was amazing and a moment that will never be bettered in my footballing life) and that while amazing we could ask in all the major FA moments where does it lie, we also have to remember that this was a compilation for a TV show.

They have to balance it out. They can’t have a run of Liverpool games, or 1950s games for example. The order meant nothing.

Enjoy the fact that little Wigan were even in there.

And most of all remember that day in May 2013. Wherever it comes in a list made up by some producer.
