      Fellow Latics fans,

you may have heard about a very brave and beautiful little girl named Emma Hoolin, from Whitley in Wigan who is suffering from a very aggressive childhood cancer. Emma is only 4 years old and has a smile that lights up the room. She has been fighting this terrible disease for over 8 months now and has endured the harshest chemotherapy and radiotherapy imaginable. The NHS has offered her the best possible treatment available in this country but for her to stand the greatest chance of beating this terrible disease, she needs to have further immunotherapy treatment in America at a cost of £210,000.

Her family and friends are desperately trying to raise the money to get her to America by 19 November as she needs to start this treatment urgently.

Wigan Athletic have very kindly allowed 20 of Emma’s supporters to fundraise before the Bolton game on Saturday. We will be outside the ground and in the surrounding areas from 1.30pm with bright pink buckets and we want to raise as much money as possible so we can get Emma to America.

I know times are difficult for us all but really in this situation every penny donated will help so please bring what you can and throw it into the nearest pink bucket to you. Bring your loose change, have a rummage in the sofa, break open the old piggy bank but please please bring something for Emma. She is so worth the effort.

What you give on Saturday could literally save a little girl’s life. It doesn’t get bigger than that, so let’s prove what a generous lot us Latics fans are. Please pass this message on to any fan you know who may not read here and lets make Saturday a massive fundraising success story.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

At half time I was fuming like the rest of you and then Emma came on to the pitch. It made me realise that the football just didn’t matter.

Her is a thought, if each of our so called footballers donated a weeks wage which they all undoubtedly did not earn yesterday then the amount required would be well and truly raised.

They would also earn back the respect from us that there footballing abilities are never ever going to gain.

From reports I have heard, they raised over £7,000 on the day, well done to everybody who contributed…

“Latics players have donated personally to the charity, although the extent of their contributions they have asked to remain private.”
