when hes directly asked if we receive an offer would we sell he still doesnt say no.
Intresting that he also says that were no longer in a position where we have to sell players. Why on earth was we in postion to sell players anyway? There cant be many debts because we dont spend any bloody money
28 August 2009 at 6:11 pm #7161He said the same about Cattermole if you read back mate.

Turnover £43m (up from 27m the previous year, an increase of 59.2%)
Wage bill £38.4m (up from £27.5m the previous year, an increase of 39.6%)
Wages as proportion of turnover 89%
Loss before tax £11.2m
Debts £66.4m
Interest payable £1.7m
Highest paid director Brenda Spencer, amount not declared
State they’re in Wigan Athletic are where they are, in the JJB Stadium and in the Premier League, solely due to the patronage of local market trader made good, Dave Whelan. Interest free loans from his holding company were increased to £35.6m, and Wigan were given another unsecured loan of £7.5m assumed to have come from Whelan. Barclays Bank maintained their funding at £23m because of Whelan’s backing. The accounts make it clear that Wigan, who expect to continue to make losses, would not be solvent without Whelan’s financial backing.
30 August 2009 at 3:44 pm #7335Garswood, facts are not the done thing on here.
See a big number (lets say 43m for example ;) ) and then proclaim “Well there’s no way we could have spent that, Whelan must be creaming it in”.
Do it without engaging brain, without looking for references to back up your silly claims and most definitely with no consideration for what our true level would be without the investment from DW.
Personally, i’m not bothered what level we are playing at but I am bothered that there should always be a Wigan Athletic. The club is now being run as a business instead of a rich mans plaything. As far as i’m concerned this is a positive step as it means the future of the club after Whelan has gone will be secured as long as we continue to live within our means.
Everything isn’t rosy but by no means is it tragic. I wonder if the moaners will still be around when we find our natural level within the game based on turnover etc and not from being bankrolled.
31 August 2009 at 3:17 pm #7392”Wages as proportion of turnover 89%”
that is the most worrying part for me
im no financial expert , but i assume the remaining 11% from the gate money etc goes to service the debt ??
31 August 2009 at 6:53 pm #7407Highest paid director Brenda Spencer, amount not declaredI thought the chairman and the directors would take a dividend not a salary, and if there was a loss, how can she draw money from a loss-making organisation?
And how much money has she pumped into the club?
31 August 2009 at 7:29 pm #7409She is Chief Executive, and hence an employee, as well as being (presumably ex officio) on the Board of Directors.
