any of you remember larry lloyd player manager 1981, was immense in our first promotion season in the league. solid as a rockI remember his first game,couldnt get shorts big enough :lol: shortly after he joined there were some complaints about him swearing all the time,big big man.

Must have been the shortest ever centre-half/centre-back.Harry Lyon also ended his playing days at centre-half. Not many beat him in the air. I think I’m correct in saying he also played in goal.
Peter Atherton exuded class. We’ve had some good ones over the years, but Atherton’s head and shoulders clear for me.
peter atherton played for the latics old boys XI against ashton athletic in the emma hoolin charity match and looked as good and as fit as he was 20 years ago, somethings never change.
