It hurts so much because I believe we should have been good enough to be mid table

I understand your concerns, but with all due respect, IMHO your expectations were too high at the outset. The squad that started this season was largely the same squad that was not good enough two seasons ago, then too good for league one last season. Signing Vaughan, McManaman and Gibson from Sunderland didn’t strengthen your squad, as they all featured regularly for the side who finished bottom of the championship, and didn’t exactly cover themselves with glory. Windass scored goals in the SPL, but to be frank, even Connor Salmon managed that!

So, like it or not, the squad you have is one that has history of struggling in the Championship, and I’m sure the objective set at the start of the season by Sharp would have been to avoid relegation. However I do still believe that unless Rotherham go on a miracle run, you will eek enough points to stay above the drop zone. The end of the season is when the owners should take stock, and if they consider Cook has hit his glass ceiling, then its time for him to go.

Finally, if Sunderland return to the Championship next season, I’d take 4th bottom right now.[/quote]

Mutty sir, I cant believe I’m saying this, but I agree with you. I would have been happy to finish 4th from bottom at the start of the season. I stand by that statement at the start of the season & I continue to stand by that up until the end of the season.

As for cook not being sacked. It was sharp I believe who offered him the 4 year contract. Perhaps he isn’t getting sacked as the new owners either cant afford the contract payoff, or they are the sort of people who like to honour contracts.

I agree mutty and to add to the issue, our budget is p*** poor compared to others in this division meaning rather than grab a goal scorer like Bamford who has done it at this level, we sign Windass who we think might do it.

We were all happy when Walton decided to stay but he hasn’t been anything close to the same standard hence why he was dropped. Windass, Calum, Gibson and Evans all seemed good signings at the time but have flattered to deceive. Calum can have an argument I guess seeing as he hasn’t been used. I’m not sure how Sheff Utd used Clarke but it was clearly not how we use him because he has been dreadful. I’m not sure Grigg would have done any better but he certainly wouldn’t have done any worse.

We are in trouble there is no doubt about that, but as I said at xmas who replaces Cook? You can’t simply say “anyone would be better” because as we showed with Mackay and Joyce that simply isn’t true.

If we lose on Saturday and slip into the 3 then the owners may act but whether people want to see his contract or not, which as I said it won’t be even mentioned, our aim was to stay up. No more. No less.

We need three wins out of the next nine games to stay up.
Best chances are Bolton, Brentford & Millwall.

Forget “our expectations” at the beginning push that aside. At one point we were 9th-10th so players and manager at that time were doing something right.
Cook keeps going for seasoned pros and it’s failed.
Since Olson has been shuffled in we’ve conceded 6 in 2 with one been a Abott & Costello fiasco goal last night, a player with one foot who loves to hoof it to Casper The Ghost.

The lad from Everton brought in, used once, MacDonald along with MacManaman frozen out along with others. Letting 2 forwards go in a relegation fight and replace with a guy we’ve had before and was useless then.

Then we’ve Nick “candy floss” Powell needs a bubble wrap jersey.
He’s playing like he doesn’t wanna get injured for his pre-booked TUI holiday and fook up next season’s move so tries not to complete 90 minutes along with Paul Cook “Let’s Hang On” negative tactics been used most games and along with scratch your head WTF subtitutions has meant we have slowly dropped like a drip feed without anyone spotting till now….nice n slow.

And still yes fookin “still” there’s muppets on here saying “But if x-y-z lose we’ll be ok. I don’t buy a season ticket to keep looking at xscores on my phone to see how others are going on, I fookin look at what’s on the pitch and hope what’s on there will keep us up.

These rose tinters are pinning thier hopes on the form of others failing while we can’t buy a win.
For me, manager out right now, lift this fookin jet black cloud of manager negativity.

I mean , Cook brought in 2 players 1 of which had hardly kicked a ball all season before coming here then asked to run his bulloks off from day one and since then both have been injured twice. That’s the risk you run with players not match fit and over a certain age.

The body language when we conceded last nights goals spoke volumes, no one spoke a word and everyone’s heads looking down as if to say, fook it I can’t be arsed. And the yard stick to how bad we were and are last night was Reece James’s performance. I honestly didn’t think he was capable of a bad performance like that he’s always been the shining light no matter what. He played and looked like a player who seriously thrown in the towel for the season and can’t wait to go elsewhere so you gotta wonder why !!.

I personally think were in a situation that we have NO choice bar rely on Rotherham and Millwall screwing up because whiles Cooks in charge here we’ve had it.

I’m convinced that if Cook leaves right now there’ll be a massive improvement in players attitude and form and we’d have no problem nicking 3pts here and there. Some will say but who do we get ? , It doesn’t matter tbh players attitude will change I’m convinced.
And if not and he stays here?, I will just have to pray that both Rotherham and Millwall lose all thier remaining games.

That was as bad as it’s been last night and I’m preying it’s not topped by Doley Wanderers Sat

We have been more than patient and far from improving results are getting worse.3 nil last night was a let off,it could have been 7-0 .The Rovers supporters I work with were stunned at our capitulation after the first goal ,and how heads immediately dropped.I do not see any valid reason to continue with him and a new presence cannot do any worse.Do you really want to wait until we are in the bottom 3 ?..Remember some posters weeks ago ?? “There are 5 teams between us an trap door”…then 4,3,now 2….The confidence of the players is shot to bits and he shows no sign of being able to lift them. His recent interviews are that of a beaten man and a club in our financial position cannot risk being relegated out of blind loyalty. How many of the clubs in all 4 leagues would have allowed this rot to continue like we have…take a deep breath..read it again …3 points out of a possible 51 !!!!..Remember….it’s a results business.

One thing that stood out to me last night was our passing.
We made it so difficult for ourselves and why tf have we suddenly started hoofing it ??.

There was miss hit passes galore. The lack of the abity to sing pass it to a player in space 5 yard away was unreal. Players unable to put the ball under control, the very basic stuff your taught from under5’s level.

At one point we made 5 passes and under no pressure what so ever each time a pass was made the recieving player had to leg it to retrieve the miss hit pass or it came to him at dick height and he had to touch it 3 – 4 times to get it back under control. And Comms, no fooked shouting it wanting it says it all.

I then watched City, nothing fancy, passing crisp and meet as basic as it gets, along the floor quick and precise. I’m not talking step overs or rabona’s simple controlled accurate pass and move.
I’ve seen under 15’s pass and control better than our lot and that no joke.
Get back to fookin basics I say and talk.

Because we beat them the last 3 times we played them so, to use your wording cupwinners, muppets think we are better than we are.

This season is going exactly how I expected it to go if I’m honest. Few early wins off the back of the morale from last season and then an outright struggle.

Why do those throwing 3 points from this 3 points from that about our away form not mention the 30 points we have picked up at home?

We are in a bad rot at the minute there is no doubt, but as we have proven before a change of manager doesn’t mean wins.

Excellent article by Cup Winners which I agree with wholeheartedly.

As I have said I believe Cook is suffering from stress and should be placed on gardening leave and a interim manager appointed. I also firmly believe our players train far too hard. They are tired come the 50 min mark. Yet the train pre match for over an hour and how that helps is beyond me.

Cooks trainers need a shakeup, new ideas, new methods. It would also help if the owners via the Chairman actually makes a statement in the programme.

Division One football was certainly better than the tripe dished up this season..

In relation to your 1st statement: People keep stating we need a new manager, but never give any names. Do you have anyone in mind?

As for the tripe being dished up this season. Yes, it probably is. But we are playing in a tougher league & higher standard than league 1. But the goal this season was always to stay up – however we achieved that goal.

At some point the decision to replace the manager goes beyond a question of “who can we get in to replace him”. If the performances and results are getting demonstrably worse with no sign of improvement then the decision to make a change becomes inevitable. For all the talk of the squad being together and with the manager it is obvious confidence has gone. Cook seems unable to alter that and motivate players to perform above the dross we saw last night and in other recent games.

A loss or even an unimpressive draw on Saturday might just trigger that change. It may be that a caretaker from within the club is put in place, Anthony Barry and/or Gregor Rioch perhaps. I cannot see the club letting things stumble on like this until it’s too late to do something about it.

I actually thought we played well against Boro, Derby and Reading and really should have had more than 1 point from those games but it was the usual mistakes/falling apart at the seams that cost us.

There is an apathy and resignation about the way we are playing at the moment and this needs to be addressed. My point is I’m not convinced Cook is capable of changing that.

I agree in terms of whether or not Cook can change that because you would expect it to have changed by now if he could.
