The problem is, Fil, that some of the criticism is just plainly abuse.

I suppose I am on the blind faith side. I will support Wigan Athletic through anything they throw at us and I support Roberto Martinez because I believe he has been and will be good for this football club.

My big problem is that some of the people whining and booing are simply being blind to the situation we are in. We are not a big club and, for that reason, we are not popular with the FA and fans of clubs with bigger fanbases and longer histories. We have also had an horrendous season with bad injuries and some appalling refing decisions. I sometimes feel we are under siege from the FA, refs, the media and other fans so my natural reaction is to defend my club. At times my arguements amy be completely insane but I will stick by my club.

So when I hear our own fans making abusive and non-constructive comments, and when I see them storming out of the ground with 15 minutes to go, I get a nark on. I was asking if there was a fire with 15 minutes to go on Saturday. The attitude appeared to be that people had either seen enough or were too upset to watch any more. That is not supporting your team. What kind of message is that sending to the players – “they don’t really support us, I’ll go to another club at the first opportunity.”

On Saturday I think we were a goal away from starting a good performance, but we were faced with three players who are so far out of our reach, financially, it is ridiculous – Suarez, Coutinho and Reina.

My blind faith says that I will support the team despite its limitations because I feel we are creating history and building a team here that we could never have dreamed of 10, 20 or 40 years ago.

No matter how much doom-mongers slag off my team I will support them in my own way. And I have every right to do that.

I hit the X after I read that Brendan Rodgers should stick to Kenny Dalglish’s ethos of keeping player issues in house.

fil after posting what was ether a wind or pointscoring thread surely you would have the decency to give a full reply to a wonderful reply from piemon rather than a crap one liner ? Surely he deserves better than that ?

I remember years ago when we got to the prem. Many posters said “We`ll not half attract some whoppers who will think we should compete every week and if we don`t then they will be threatening to leave at every excuse”. I`m sorry but you are one of those. A JCL who has moaned and moaned through the good times, never experienced the bad times and never will when they return

Harsh I know but a least its the truth

Are you suggesting that our good friend Philidelphia would intentionally post a thread with the aim at inciting disagreement between two sets of fans?

            How dare you :silly:

Piemon, if my team (latics) put in a pittyfull performance like they did on on saturday and a number of times this season i will critise them and yes i will get abusive sometimes.I work hard for my money, i am not on 10,000 grand a week and drive a range rover, so i feel entitled to say what i want. I have backed bobby to the hilt so much so i even fell out with one of my brothers, but this season so far as been unacceptable, injurys or not the players bob as signed are supposedly premiership qaulity and SHOULD beable to step upto the mark.
Lets just say latics give 500 tickets to the schools to entice kids that have never been to the football before and havent got a team, these are the fans of the future………….who do you think these kids are talking about when they leave the game because it wont be wigan after performances like the ones against liverpool, southampton,

Ironic really, does sound very much like this forum…

Without question the footy this season has been poor & boring at times. That is why we are where we are and if you pay your money you can have your say.
Are we building a team currently? Throughout our time in the prem we have had players who looked like prem players and looked destined for bigger clubs. I don’t see that in any of the signings Bob has made, well maybe Kone aside.

My reply was concise and to the point. Why should we settle for stagnation just because we came from the depths of lower league football. Piemons riposte was indeed heartfelt and sincere but he did indeed admit to having blind faith and whilst some fans are just grateful to be where we are now regardless of position or state of squad there are some of us JCL’s and stalwarts alike who would like a little bit more from our players. I happen to think that we have enough talent in the squad to survive but the right balance has not been found yet and that is down to the manager to work the oracle with what he has. This thread was not intended as a wind up but to point out that even big clubs like Liverpool have very similar rifts amongst their fans. There are fans on here who vent their spleen at crap performances only to be told by others to stop moaning and look how far we have come and other old chestnut sayings ! I have never been vitriolic in my posts but just because I have only been watching for 10 years doesn’t mean that I cant have an opinion or point out evidence of underachieving by certain players. Back to the never rest on your laurels,if you didn’t understand the adage then fine but don’t try and make out that I’m some sort of idiot. Nothing wrong at all wanting progression when it is a feasible goal but to be content for the sake of it due to history and the size of the club is counter-productive in my eyes ! 8 seasons in the Prem and we are still the whipping boys ! Whilst some of the old guard are happy with their lot some of us newer editions are more eager to properly establish ourselves in the top tier of English football, properly being the operative word ! We need to carry on building the fanbase for the future of the club and staying in the Prem and doing well in the Prem will indeed bring new fans, just accepting whatever happens because you support the team and getting mad with fans who are frustrated at the shite they are watching does not make you a better supporter. I will be there still if we go down but many wont and even though you will still be happy with your lot, your acceptance of how small we are and how far we have come etc will not fill the clubs coffers with much needed funds from fans and tv deals. I think the fans who want more success are the fans that will see this club prosper and the next generation of fans that come in will be like minded I hope !

I just want certain players who have the ability to put more effort in and if they cant be bothered sometimes then neither can I. They are on damn good money and are paid to perform to the best of their respective abilities, they are for want of a better word investments to the club and as a fan who would like to see us be more successful I would like to see such investments come to fruition, no crime in that !
