My reply was concise and to the point. Why should we settle for stagnation just because we came from the depths of lower league football. Piemons riposte was indeed heartfelt and sincere but he did indeed admit to having blind faith and whilst some fans are just grateful to be where we are now regardless of position or state of squad there are some of us JCL’s and stalwarts alike who would like a little bit more from our players. I happen to think that we have enough talent in the squad to survive but the right balance has not been found yet and that is down to the manager to work the oracle with what he has.This thread was not intended as a wind up but to point out that even big clubs like Liverpool have very similar rifts amongst their fans. There are fans on here who vent their spleen at crap performances only to be told by others to stop moaning and look how far we have come and other old chestnut sayings ! I have never been vitriolic in my posts but just because I have only been watching for 10 years doesn’t mean that I cant have an opinion or point out evidence of underachieving by certain players. Back to the never rest on your laurels,if you didn’t understand the adage then fine but don’t try and make out that I’m some sort of idiot. Nothing wrong at all wanting progression when it is a feasible goal but to be content for the sake of it due to history and the size of the club is counter-productive in my eyes ! 8 seasons in the Prem and we are still the whipping boys ! Whilst some of the old guard are happy with their lot some of us newer editions are more eager to properly establish ourselves in the top tier of English football, properly being the operative word ! We need to carry on building the fanbase for the future of the club and staying in the Prem and doing well in the Prem will indeed bring new fans,just accepting whatever happens because you support the team and getting mad with fans who are frustrated at the shite they are watching does not make you a better supporter. I will be there still if we go down but many wont and even though you will still be happy with your lot, your acceptance of how small we are and how far we have come etc will not fill the clubs coffers with much needed funds from fans and tv deals. I think the fans who want more success are the fans that will see this club prosper and the next generation of fans that come in will be like minded I hope !

I just want certain players who have the ability to put more effort in and if they cant be bothered sometimes then neither can I. They are on damn good money and are paid to perform to the best of their respective abilities, they are for want of a better word investments to the club and as a fan who would like to see us be more successful I would like to see such investments come to fruition, no crime in that !There’s no harm in that at all Fil, I hope it all works out for you.

We’ve been spanked 4-0 loads of times and under every manager who has managed us in the Premier League, and we currently lie in a better league position than we have been at the this stage of the season for the past two years. We are in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, and have made a profit for the first time since God-knows-when.
But if you read some of the comments on this board over the past week you’d think we were rock bottom, out of the cups at the first attempt as usual, with a club in turmoil, and suffering four goal thumpings every week.
I think some people need to take a reality check.
What sort of progress are people expecting? I’ll admit, after the ending to last season, I expected us to be doing better than we are currently, but that was probably because I was still riding the wave when this season kicked off.
In reality, we’re still the club with the smallest fanbase; the lowest income; probably the least amount of global appeal.
So how well should we be doing? (Serious answers only)

I don’t think it’s anything to do with having the tactics sussed out as we’ve looked good going forwards on numerous occasions this season, but we’ve been woeful at the back and that has nullified it.
By rights, maybe we shouldn’t have gone on that run last season, and because we did, it just filled people with false hope.
My expectations were for a comfortable 17th to 10th finish – and I think that’s the best we can ever really be expecting to achieve.

My main gripe is , there’s one or two players who under perform week in week out but still retain their starting position regardless and that’s just not me saying it, I hear the same names criticised at nearly every game I go.
I personally think he could do with an older head at his side say like a Dave Bassett type of figure , I’m not saying him but someone of that ilk who’s been around around the block and might be able give a different perspective on a match. He can’t take advise from Graeme Jones as he’s to busy on BUBBLE WORLDS on his IPAD (heard he’s clocked it).

It must pay better than window cleaning and even allowing for the pressure of club’s current league position it can’t be any more stressful. It might just cheer you up a bit which would be an added bonus for us all on here?

1.)What makes me a JCL or makes you assume I wasnt at Springfield Park?
2.)What makes you think if we were still in the lower leagues or end up back in the lower leagues I wont a.) be there or b.) enjoy it just as much if not more than you?
3.)Just because you have been supporting the club a number of years doesnt make your opinion any more valid than any one elses on here.

Speak for yourself Sammy, although this post is not to the liking of some i think it is well constructed. That’s what a forum is for to discuss football and where people can voice their opinions.

Firstly James, I wasn’t speaking for anyone else other than myself and neither did my post suggest otherwise.
I’ve come to the conclusion that filmoss is a miserable, pessimistic sourpuss who enjoys telling everyone how poor a team we have. Now, I’ve never met filmoss so I might be wrong but until I do, and I’m not losing sleep over it, I’ll stick to that opinion. You mentioned his post was well constructed but most of it is a quote by, I presume, Martinez from 18 months ago, but it could be the defence coach. Not particularly well constructed there then!
I suggested to filmoss that he might be the very man to put his foot down and whip them into shape seeing as it is quite obvious to him that this is the reason for our defensive frailties this season.
People watch the team they supposedly support for 90 minutes – less if you’re filmoss – maybe every two weeks and think they know better than the manager and his staff who work with the players every day.
