He makes things even worse by pretending that nobody else saw the game.
From the BBC website:
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez: “The performance was magnificent. We did enough to win the game comfortably.
“Some of the performances from my players were everything I could wish for. If we carry on playing like that then we’ll not be in the position we’re in right now.
“I’m confident we can climb the table. You saw the spirit we have here. When the players fell behind they fought hard to get back level and then took the lead.”
How can he say we gave a magnificent performance when we conceded three goals at home with two of them coming from ten men? Yes we attacked well at times but against a very poor team. With the games coming up i just hope that Martinez doesn’t lose more face than he already has.
20 November 2011 at 2:29 am #74650No you don’t – losing as much face as possible is exactly what you want Roberto to do
20 November 2011 at 2:38 am #74652Its not me doing that though thats himself………he is truly out of his depth and although i’m pointing that out…..for both his sake and granted mainly Wigans sake he should go.
20 November 2011 at 3:05 am #74655Believe me mate, he really doesn’t give a flyer what you think about his welfare or public image – and nor should he

I feel as if I have watched a different game to a few of the people on here today. Each and everyone (the negative types in particular) have focused on maybe 3 or 4 minutes of a game that lasted 47 mins in the first half and 51 mins in the second half.
I am not going to wax-lyrical about all the good stuff I watched today because psychologically the ‘doomsters’ have already pre-programmed and pressed the self destruct buttons (they can’t help it – and I won’t bore you with the details) suffice to say there is a lot of money to be made in some of the people on here.
There was some real quality from some of our players out there today………..first person to diss this statement I will haunt.
Bandwagon jumpers…we should have stuffed them with them only having ten men and all that – are the same people who cannot remember the chants to Bolton when we went down to 10 men and beat them – this is the feckin premier league….teams practice these tactics; live with it.
We played damn well today…but we drew (so feckin what) – I remember the best ever scoreless draw I have ever witnessed in this journey to Aston Villa a few years ago…..there were mistakes granted, but we played well in a very open (and sometimes suicidal) game…………..
……….however, I wouldn’t want to be the next set of teams, particularly their managers (regardless of ‘status’) facing us because we will be rampant and we will be blessed with that ‘change of luck’ coming our way.
I, for one, will keep the faith.

Mr C
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I exchanged views with another of the board’s regulars in a post match public house, and both came to the conclusion that anyone with a modicum of sense could not criticise that performance, but they will….

Couldn’t agree more, on the whole, and note the highlighting and subtlety of the correct spelling of damn.
Have to say though, not sure that the managers of some of our next few opponents might not be quivering that much
20 November 2011 at 3:21 am #74662Spot on Micky.
The numpties on here have memories like goldfish. If we had held on to win 3-2 we’d all have been saying great battling three points and some good positives from certain players. One minute later , a reckless challenge at a corner and everything that has happened in the previous 93 minutes is forgotten. Suddenly it’s Darkside party time again and we’re an embarrassment.
Get a f****g grip.
20 November 2011 at 3:32 am #74666have to admit
after watching the game i thought we played really well and deserved to win
blackburn had plenty of luck and help from the officials
to be honest i feel we will get nothing from the officials from now till the last game
we did upest the establishment at FA last season remember20 November 2011 at 3:35 am #74667have to admit

Yes. And so would anyone else with half a brain
– clearly ruling you out.20 November 2011 at 12:42 pm #74699Bob’s a little bit like the boy who cried wolf re his after match comments.
After weeks of finding the positives from some truly awful performances, only a fool could disagree he had a point yesterday.
To be fair to Bob, he tried something different and I was impressed with the new formation. I think that role is perfect for Stam. Some of the early crosses he was firing in were great, just what we’ve been missing, and if our strikers start to expect that sort of delivery every week, hopefully the goals will come.
I admit i was veering towards the dark side lately, but after yesterdays performance, i’ve moved a shade lighter.
20 November 2011 at 1:33 pm #74702Agree with all of the above – a really encouraging performance spoiled by a few individual lapses which cannot be factored in to planning.
The point about playing against 10 men – it is really difficult to break down ten because they retreat into their shells more, and rely on the break. I know this is a “I was there” moment – but remember how hard Bristol Rovers were to break down when Kevin Lynch sent half their team off? They don’t lose people from the defence, they withdraw front runners. In fact even to the point of over-compensating at the back. That’s why it is never a walk in the park against teams who are a man or two light.
My only criticism of this was when at one point they were temporarily down to nine when one was off being treated why did we dawdle about with a free kick in our own half instead of getting it forward to try to use the advantage?
I am realistic enough to know and recognise that our chances of survival are reducing, but that doesn’t move me to the Darkside. I fully expect us to see an improvement – whether it’s enough I don’t know. But I’ll take what positives I can ;)

Correctamundo!
I though it was a cracking game yesterday and if it wasn’t for that reckless challenge at the end the doom mongers on here would no doubt be as absent as an official at a dodgy corner. -
