EXCELLENT thread fellow tics men, lets hope it ends here and doesn’t get hijacked by some moaning, grumpy, gloomy darkside twort..
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!20 November 2011 at 5:14 pm #74726If the game yesterday was a one off game then maybe you could say we played well, however knowing the mistakes from many of the previous games this season how can you say it is acceptable when we are not learning from any of our mistakes.
Surely the least as a club we want to see is some of the cheap defending problems solved. I know we’re going to lose more than we win and am under no illusion that we are a bottom half club but why do you insist on defending a team and a system that is not working.
I know Martinez does not give a toss about what i say but i have a right, as do you to give an opinion. The argument from the lightside seems to be who do we get in and what will be the difference?
We could get someone with more premiership experience as Bobs previous experience outside this league was developed in leagues where you can get away with bad defending, whereas in the premiership you get found out easily. We need a manager that grasps this concept and has knowledge and experience of building a defence and setting up and motivating it correctly.
There’s no doubt we’re going down this season and i can accept that but i can’t accept going forward with a manager that seems to be out of his depth and in all likelihood will demolish any chance of us returning to the premier league again.
20 November 2011 at 6:31 pm #74735No you don’t – losing as much face as possible is exactly what you want Roberto to do
Well said
We are all in this together. Sick and tired of the same supposed fans rolling out the same old crappy lines every week. We played well yesterday in spite of some of the biggest refereeing errors Ive ever seen.
Denied a pen, changed the formation and 5 players from the Wolves game, 2nd Blackburn goal was a farce, then NINE minutes injury time.. NINE?!?Then you read this muck and its all Caldwells fault or Bobbys fault..
This place is full of people desperate to be proved right if/when we go down.
Worst fans in the country by a country mile.
20 November 2011 at 6:38 pm #74737So you can put a more positive spin on things or a more negative spin on things.
If you can find a positive from 1 point out of a possible 27 points against the more playable teams in the Premiership then can you please enlighten me?
20 November 2011 at 6:40 pm #74738Too many fans still gloss over the individual errors the players in the team are making but Roberto’s job is to coach these out of them. If the same players keep making the same mistakes then that’s a massive downfall of a coaching team.
Every game we have lost this year has had a massive contribution from our own stupid errors, it just so happens yesterday we managed to get a foothold in the game and score 3 goals to cover some of the shockers we are making every single week. If you look at us now 1/3 of the way through the season, we seem to make 2 howlers a game consistently so now do we have to score 3 to even have a chance of getting anything? It seems so.

Ashton we are bottom of the league not because we are unlucky or referee’s or because of injuries, Bob’s words not mine.
WE ARE BOTTOM BECAUSE WE ARE CRAP END OF!!!!
20 November 2011 at 6:56 pm #74743people moan that MOTD look down their noses at us, that rival fans scoff at our crowds, that the media never talk up our achievements..
why should they when our own fans right us off so soon into the season.
we are on an awful run. confidence is low and some of our defending as been embarrassing..BUT, the club needs their fans. they need us behind them for every minute of every match.
some of the crap spouted on here by people who claim to love the club is pointless/ridiculous/and quite frankly, boring. if your a fan, act like one.
we played well yesterday. lets try and take that into the next match and see if we can snatch a point or three.
20 November 2011 at 7:06 pm #74747One swallow doesn’t make a Summer and as you will probably remember it wasn’t that good of a Summer anyway ! The back 4 would give the Keystone Cops a run for their money in the comedy of errors stakes !! We have taken 1 point from the 4 teams just above us. 1point out of a possible 12 from your closest relegation rivals !! Helloooooooo !!! Coffee smell up wake !!! Is there anybody home !!!!

None of us thinks we’re a particularly good team. None of us thinks that Roberto is the best manager if the world. None of us is under any illusion that this current form is relegation form and there is a better than even chance we will, finally, go down this season.
None of us would be too unhappy if Whelan ditched his pragmatic financial strategy and went out and bought a couple of world class defenders on about £80k a week, and none of us would object greatly if the FA opened up the transfer window a little but early to allow him do it as soon as possible. But it isn’t going to happen is it, so we’re stuck with what we’ve got.
We also know that Whelan’s oft-stated intention is that he will not sack Roberto so, whether you like it or not, you’re stuck with him too. It’s therefore moot whether another manager would fare any better with this set of players and therefore pointless to continually post “Martinez Out” or “Sack him now” because it looks like it simply isn’t going to happen.
So, as fans, you, I and everyone else has a choice.
We can get behind the team and the club and try to help them to survive this predicament, however remote a possibility that might seem at the moment.
Or, we can simply spend the time slagging off the manager, bringing up the same ineptitudes over and over again, forgetting that we are merely a collection of IT Project Managers, window cleaners (no disrespect), fishermen, doleites, students and other assorted dickheads who have not the first idea of how to run a professional football club*
I know my place and how I can best help my club, so I’ll go with option A. You carry on as you see fit.
* I’ve opened a book on who will be the first one to respond with “neither does Martinez”
20 November 2011 at 9:30 pm #74775A catch 22 scenario indeed !

So what your saying Griff is that we should make do with what we have? Sorry Griff but sometimes a change at a club works wonders and lets have it right even if the change was a disaster how could it be worse?

A disaster ????
Ask the people of Christchurch what a disaster is
20 November 2011 at 9:53 pm #74783A disaster ????Ask the people of Christchurch what a disaster is
Should that not be on the none football forum???

Maybe but that actually is a disaster unlike the relegation of Wigan Athletic

If you take my contention that HE IS NOT GOING TO BE SACKED as a given, and you may as well because Whelan says it is so, then it is a complete and utter waste of energy to even bother debating or asking for it to happen.
