I’ll start the thread that I know will cause some disagreement – but please try to keep it civil.

Bolton have been saved, at least for now.

In a way that proves the EFL’s point of giving them more time, and more time. The deal was there, albeit difficult to get over the line. EFL are much maligned but in this case they have given every facility for one of their member clubs to carry on. The fact it is Bolton will rankle with some on here, but if you look at the wider football community their survival (for now at least) is widely welcomed.

Bury’s owner just wouldn’t play ball. They were given the time, but in the end came up with nothing. Disregard all these “last minute bids”. I could have bid for the club in the last minutes – it wouldn’t have been realistic, but it would be recorded as a last minute bid. Where were these bidders a week ago, a month ago, 3 months ago? Bury’s owner had no serious bidder other than the one, who when they looked at what the club’s true finances were backed away quickly. The fact that they are called Sports Risk, and so are presumably willing to punt a gamble but refused to do so here, speaks volumes. EFL really ended up with no option.
    The situations are worlds apart.
Let’s get this clear. I don’t like Bolton or its fans. They are rivals. But equally there are a number of others I dislike (‘hate’ is far too strong a word about a game), Man U, Man City, Liverpool (even with my background), Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, Newcastle, Leeds (have always dosliked them), Cardiff … all with their own arrogance.
But losing two clubs in the EFL in a few days would have been catastrophic.
I really really feel for Bury fans – I know a few. But let’s actually breathe a sigh of relief – rejoicing would be too much, I know – that only one club has been lost to the league.
And with the example of Newport, and Aldershot, and Hereford, and yes even Rangers – they will be back.

Completely took the piss out of EFL rules and any deadlines given to them with arrogance.
Pay all staff and players every penny owed as a priority then the rest in the dribs and drabs they’re hoping they’ll accept.
The EFL must now punish all non fulfillment of fixtures offences as per their rules.

The 2 fixtures they have missed need to be penalised but I agree with GL and personally am pleased for their loyal fans and the fact that we may one day play them again.

As for Bury, I feel so sorry for their fans. One of my earliest Latics memories is throwing money in buckets and seeing as some of the greatest memories I have in life are Latics related I can’t imagine not having that side to have supported all my life. They must be devastated.

      Nonsense.
Bury would have had the same flexibilities if they had produced anything.
But they didn’t. I am absolutely no fan of the EFL, but Dale backed them into a corner.
I truly believe the EFL do not want to lose clubs, but whereas Bolton kept holding out some hope (which has now proved corect) Bury didn’t provide anything.
Have you kids? If so you’ll know the “bed at 8” is a moveable feast. There are flexibilities in any reasonable discussion. Final deadlines aren’t always final.
      Bury were afforded that too.
They just abused it until it was time for the EFL to make a decision.

Edit- is there a post here I’m responding to that has disappeared?

gl, you keep saying Dale didn’t comply or engage with the EFL he publicly stated in front of millions listening on radio that he had the proof they required and he offered to show that proof to a 3rd party. He insisted that it was the EFL who kept moving the goalposts and upping the ante. Now we all know Dale is a crook and dodgy as sin but I’m convinced that both parties are equally to blame for killing Bury off. And the question still has to be answered as to why the EFL have forced Bolton to play games without having a squad running up more debt in policing and stewarding costs probably staff going unpaid further. Surely the way to go would have been to suspend all games involving Bolton and Bury throughout August and given both a 31st August deadline to be taken over with no extension. All parties would have known what was required and hopefully both would have still been around.

he publicly stated in front of millions listening on radio that he had the proof they required and he offered to show that proof to a 3rd party.

      So why didn’t he?
Why didn’t he just do that?

      #180791

he publicly stated in front of millions listening on radio that he had the proof they required and he offered to show that proof to a 3rd party.

Because he comes across as exactly what he is gl and nobody gives him creedence. He will get what’s coming to him in court no doubt but it’s too late for the Shakers the damage is irreparable. The EFLs own rules should have seen him provide this proof ten days after he purchased the club and in the nine months he has dodged them the clubs debts have spiralled out of control. It is a mess which should have been prevented if the EFL had not let him evade them for so long.

      So why didn’t he?
Why didn’t he just do that?

Bolton have a squad – but a lot of them withdrew their labour in protest at not being paid.

My annoyance with them is that no doubt the EFL will allow them to sign players after the deadline and bolster their squad just in time to play Sunderland on 21 September. They should be forced to play up to 31 December with what they have now, and if that means the kids play, or even the bloody mascot, so be it.

They have fucked the EFL around, need a points deduction that all but confirms their relegation to L2, and think themselves bloody lucky, unlike Bury who just had a shithouse owner who wanted to make a huge profit on his £1 expenditure.

How many times can you patch a sinking ship up before all parties call it day and watch it plummet to the depths of the football league.
I’ll give it 12 months before Horwich are back in the dock and the EFl start the process all over again.

        #180799

It’s ironic but Bury have a buyer willing to put 7 million in now and the EFL were given the details before the deadline passed but because sporting risk pulled out so late they didn’t check it out. I can see a U turn coming here.

The the main reason they have survived and the very reason that Horwich are still in existence is because of the support from the EFL and they would ensure that they survived any similar melodramas in the future.
Back one club to the hilt and sit back and watch another sink just down the road is dispicable and no football supporter in the country should have any faith in them unless they are an Horwich fan.
Now come on EFL No extension of transfer window a points deduction for the two missed games and a transfer embargo and if not you are just cementing the bias and support you have given these rogues.
Come on business and trade do not deal with these who have cheated others out of millions with the 35p in the pound nonsense. Just do not trade with this bunch of charlatans.

So all this melodrama has cost them twelve points for going into admin and they have a new owner who get the club for basically paying back creditors one third of what they are owed. This sounds oh so wrong. Bloody disgusting.

Couldn’t agree more and a very dangerous precedent now set by the morons who call themselves the EFL.
