Italian press are reporting he has signed on loan for six months and that Genoa have agreed in principal on a fee of 7million Euros at the end of the season if he does alright.
I make that just over £5.8m – so we wouldn’t be far off getting our money back.
Wonder who we’ve got lined up to replace him?

Marcus Bent on loan.
12 January 2011 at 12:17 pm #55241It doesnt really matter who we sign as soon as he plays in the 451 formation it will be another career / reputation destroyed
Just read that the Boselli proposed move to Genoa is to enable him to play up front alongside another – says it all really

Spot on, there.
We could bring Michael Owen in, and he’d look lost. Is it any effin surprise? Moreno, Rodallega, Di Santo, Boselli….how many goals between them?
There you go.
12 January 2011 at 12:26 pm #55244Depends what kind of player he buys. If he were to get someone like a Tuncay who can play in a few positions, it will work.
The problem is that we bought a predator who relies on having a shed load of chances in the box. In our formation our lone striker needs to be an all-rounder.
I can’t see him dropping Hugo as our main front man and Di Santo is his back-up so I would think he would look for a player who is comfortable playing behind a front man or supporting on either wing. I think to that end, Tuncay would be perfect.
12 January 2011 at 12:43 pm #55246i wouldnt hold your breath on any striker coming in…got our quota of loan players and cant see us buying someone else just to play out of position

12 January 2011 at 4:06 pm #55262you all know my opinion of martinez but this bosselli issue has shocked me.
i honestly didnt think martinez’s bollocks were that big – what he has done here is realised a player who he set his stall out for in the summer is not up to it and done something about it-
when signing any player its a risk that sometimes does not pay off – if he scores goals in italy we get our money back and learn a lesson that perhaps certain types of players cant hack the premier league, what has impressed me by off loading him is the fact martinez has realised his mistake , bosselli is not up to it -the gamble hasnt paid off so time to move on before any further damage is done.
i still have major doubts about martinez but this episode has moved him up a notch in my estimation
ps i still wouldnt have minded seeing bosselli in a standard 4-4-2
12 January 2011 at 4:57 pm #55268Nice to see you giving Martinez some praise LMB, but I think this move has more to do with his agent and the player himself than the manager.
It’s his agent who has been shouting his mouth off in the press in Italy and trying to spark some interest from Bari and Genoa.
To be fair to him, he has done a good job as we get shot of a player who doesn’t want to be here and get almost all our money back if he scores a few goals between now and the end of the season.
The question now is whether we sign someone permanently (as it’s not like we have received our Boselli transfer money back) or do we get someone else in on loan to replace him which then means we have to sign Al Habsi permanently or get rid of Cleverley.
Interesting dilemma!

ffkcsI’d buy a used car from Martinez as readily as I’d buy a footballer from you!
Or is he a trained mechanic?
13 January 2011 at 12:38 pm #55312Get to the summer and change the manager.
That’s what I reckon.
Too many shambolic issues surrounding him and us as a club. I can’t recall there being such a negative vibe about the place, even in the Swain era, when we really WERE crap, but yet we realised that the players we had were all journey-men and has-beens and never-will-be’s, as opposed to todays squad which has some genuine talent in it, and some young players with great potential. The buck stops with the manager, I’m afraid.
Tactics, signings, on pitch performances, after match excuses and comments, and more things besides……
Can we just start afresh, with a manager who hasn’t got any sentimental links to the club? A completely fresh approach all round. Please?

You can’t on the one hand criticise his signings and then go on to talk about young players with great potential, many of whom he has been responsible for signing.13 January 2011 at 1:35 pm #55316…todays squad which has some genuine talent in it, and some young players with great potential. No, what I mean is, the likes of Boselli, Amaya, Di Santo (waste of space) Gomez and that kid of thing.
I like the two young Scots. I’m less convinced about Gary Caldwell. I actually prefer Steven.
Alcaraz is alright, but he could do with a really solid defensive partner alongside him.
