On top of that, the only players you ever hear about having trouble “settling” are those who aren’t being a great success at their new clubs

    Cause and effect, maybe?

Ian Rush couldn’t settle in Turin and was gash. Or was he gash anyway, didn’t get picked and therefore couldn’t settle?

Mark Hughes wasn’t a particular success at Barcelona. Was it because he was suddenlty rubbish? Or struggled to motivate himself because he couldn’t settle?

Gary Lineker did very well abroad. But he loved the lifestyle.

On Boselli, I never said he had spat his dummy out, which implies some level of discontent with his playing lot. I just said he may not have settled very well into the area. Beech Hill ain’t Buenos Aires, after all.

I have mentioned this before and for what its worth I will mention it again. The South American correspondent for Talksport said that Boselli needed a foil and is a box player. He opined at the time that he didnt think he would fit into Roberto’s formation or style, but if he changed things then he would be a real asset. He didnt change things and it hasn’t worked out for him thus far ! Look how well Rooney plays up front on his own for Utd and England !!! It isn’t rocket science but stubbornness is a bad trait to have ! :(

It’s not worth much – given that it has been mentioned a hundred times already, 86 times by you – so I wouldn’t have bothered ;)

To be fair Mauro looks pretty happy in these pictures from the players’ visits to hospitals and the like

Maybe it’s because he knows he’s going back to Argentina!

          Good old Benno was right

The bottom line is he would not /cannot fit into our style of play and he hasnt

A very bad decison – a waste of money – old DW must have / has lost his marbles when he gave the go ahead for this one. You think he would have learned his lesson after the Scotland debarcle

Funny thing is for the life of me I cannot see any physical likeness between DW and RM

Wasn’t there some story going round at the time that Benson was alledgedly (got to put that in, ha!) tapping up Cattermole for a move to Sunderland? The club Benson subsequently went to work for?

It’s all cloaks, daggers n kerfuffle this football mullarkey.

            Ha ha!!

I get what you’re saying Griff but I personally think that its players who aren’t a success/don’t get picked who struggle to adapt
I know Ian Rush came out with the classic line of “I couldn’t settle – it was like living in a foreign country” but I don’t think his type of game suited the man marking style of Italian football at the time. Therefore he struggled for form from the off, got dropped & life suddenly doesn’t look quite as good when you aint hero worshipped like he was at Liverpool & he starts pining for home
Same with Mark Hughes at Barcelona i.e. I don’t think his style suited the spanish game. He certainly had no trouble settling when he spent time on loan at Bayern Munich where there was a much much more British style of football in Germany. he got picked regularly, started scoring goals, was worshipped by the Bayern fans & enjoyed his time there

The only player i can recall who has been getting picked, playing well & scoring but is rumoured to be unsettled is Carlos Tevez but these rumours have only really surfaced in the last 12 months at City where he is rumoured not to like the manager

It does seem strange that the only striker we have/have had on the books recently who looks like he could play that role is Jason Scotland, as I have suggested in another thread. :?

Boselli just doesn’t suit the system unfortunately – need a player who isn’t afraid to play up front on his own, physical presence with a bit of pace who can weigh in with the odd goal. I know he’s getting on a bit, but surely Jason Roberts ticks all these boxes? With all the uncertainty around Blackburn at the moment he might be looking to get out – think we should jump at the chance to get him back in.

didn’t he pick up a bit of a lengthy injury last week?

To be honest, I’d be tempted to agree with you in terms of he knew what was needed to play that role

His problems were a lack of the talent, pace & nouse needed to put the finishing touches to some of his not too bad hold up play

I think Roberts did his hamstring.

Anyway, Boselli’s agent has said he ain’t going back to Argentina……..

Despite the interest recognized by San Lorenzo, the player’s agent, Jose Iribarren, confirmed to this newspaper that no one has contacted to understand their situation and ask for their services.

Click former is a priority of President Carlos Abdo Cyclone, but only attempt a loan for six months for its high price.

Anyway, the striker, who belongs to Wigan of England (team paid a figure close to ten million dollars), will continue his football career in the old continent, as its current European club offers only listen because it claims that continue in the highly competitive and not lose value.

It is true that Boselli has not been followed in the Premier League, which played seven games and scored just one goal. European media spoke of the interest of Catania, and has recently added two sets Spanish, Zaragoza and Deportivo La Coruna.

Swindon – look closely under your tree on Saturday. I have asked Santa to bring you a decent Spanish-English dictionary ;)

              Muchas gracias senor.

However, I’m sure most our fans will have the nouse to read past the bad translations to get the gist of the story
