15 January 2013 at 4:03 pm #99990going off previous cup games and our predicament in the league
ill say 2-1 bournemouth15 January 2013 at 5:01 pm #99993All depends on the team Bob picks. If we have more first teamers in then a win, but we know what Bobs like so it could be a loss.
Grabban is back for Bournemouth which might give them a bit more up front15 January 2013 at 5:05 pm #99994All depends on the team Bob picks. If we have more first teamers in then a win, but we know what Bobs like so it could be a loss.
Grabban is back for Bournemouth which might give them a bit more up frontSo basically, to summarise what you said, we will either win, or we will lose… Good input :P
And Bickymon.. How pessimistic! B)

Basically yes, that’s how it will end up tonight
You can be the eternal optimist if you like, but i’ll base my predictions on Bobs recent performances in the cup competitions. Should win, but probably will not

So it has gone from ‘We will either win or lose’ .. to ‘We will probably lose’ .. You should think more positively.. Will do you the world of good B)
And besides.. Even if we do go out, (Which we won’t) it isn’t that big of a deal to be honest. :)
But still, we WILL win! 3-0!
Come on Wigan!! B)
15 January 2013 at 6:01 pm #99998Paper talk suggest that the squad is mainly full of the “reserves”, but that Bob has issued a warning to all the team and Mauro in particular. As such, I will be furious if we don’t win and will be even more furious if we then don’t go and snatch all 3 points on Saturday.
However, I can’t shake this feeling that we’re going to be embarrased…again.
15 January 2013 at 6:09 pm #99999In reply to jamesc I think it WOULD be a disaster if we went out of the FA Cup tonight.
This is the FA Cup we’re talking about here. A competition that is usually won by one of the elite of English football. The biggest cup competition for the English teams.
If we were to lose tonight that would be what, 3 seasons running we’ve been knocked out in the 3rd round?? Or 3 in the last 4 seasons? And all to lower league teams. Is it luck? Is it poor team selection?
This would be as well as losing to Bradford on penalties.
We’re not exactly setting the premier league on fire either this season so surely game time for the current first team and a win would help confidence? Just my opinion. It doesn’t effect anything though as we all know Bobby plays the reserves for cup games.

I want us to win the game, that comment wasn’t the main point in the post.. But if we do go out I just wont be overly bothered by it.. Premier league survival HAS to be the priority..
Now I am not saying we can’t win this match AND survive.. But if Bob thinks resting players is the best way to ensure survival then so be it.. Either way whatever team he puts out SHOULD beat Bournemouth..
And I believe we will! B)
15 January 2013 at 7:12 pm #100002If there’s the same level of effort we showed against them last week we won’t win. Boselli’s performance against Bournemouth last week was the worst I’ve ever seen in my time watching Wigan. And I’ve watched them long enough to see a lot of poor players.
Yes, we should win the game no matter what team is on the pitch BUT in these cup competitions we have to want it as much as the opponents. That’s the most important thing when playing against the lower league clubs, the quality should prevail in the end as long as we match them for enthusiasm and determination.
What if we don’t win tonight and get relegated? What if we win tonight, get to Wembley and survive? There’s lot of ifs and buts. Point is, we have a must win game tonight so it’s up to our manager to put a team out who will win the game.

There are a lot of IFS and BUTS… But If Roberto believes resting players IS the way to go and believes it will help us survive, then fair enough.. If his aim is to try and keep us in the league above all else then that is his decision.. We shouldn’t question it.
We COULD win the cup and survive.. But if Roberto doesn’t think it is worth the risk then that’s his call.
With regards to the other comment regarding effort etc.. I think it is evident that we don’t want it as much as other clubs. We DON’T want this match as much as Bournemouth. In honesty all the lower league clubs WILL want it more as it is a chance to be noticed, to be ‘Giant Killers’.. But that doesn’t mean they should win, the team we put out (Whichever team it is) should beat Bournemouth.
Keep the faith people! B)
15 January 2013 at 7:35 pm #100005i reckon 2-0

When a team is winning players want to play and their confidence helps them find that extra energy and momentum. We should be building on the strong performance agaisnt Fulham by playing a strong team tonight, winning, and then having the same players taking the confidence gained from tonight into the match on Saturday.
15 January 2013 at 8:16 pm #100007their confidence helps them find that extra energy and momentum. No it doesn’t.. we aren’t playing FIFA.. If a players body is tired then it’s tired.. Playing well doesn’t magically heal them.
And fair enough you can say we should field a strong team, maybe we should, but it is Roberto’s call at the end of the day.. and as stated before.. we shouldn’t NEED to field a strong team, any team should do…
WE WILL WIN!!! B)

Precisely the reason why I won’t be anywhere near this board for a day or so if the kids and/or reserves do lose – entirely possible if he goes for a similar line-up to the first tie.
If we go out with that kind of team, it will be disappointing and annoying but hardly surprising and certainly not a disaster.
