In reply to jamesc I think it WOULD be a disaster if we went out of the FA Cup tonight.
Disaster?! Give your head a shake ;)
Precisely the reason why I won’t be anywhere near this board for a day or so if the kids and/or reserves do lose – entirely possible if he goes for a similar line-up to the first tie.
If we go out with that kind of team, it will be disappointing and annoying but hardly surprising and certainly not a disaster.[/quote]
Thank you! Somebody speaks sense :)
I’m not looking forward to the typical ‘Wigan Fans Overreaction’ if by some chance we lose..

It’s the kids again…
48 hour exclusion zone should be declared round here I think. It’ll get messy tonight on here if we lose.

Not that I don’t like cup competitions, but considering our remote chances of winning the FA Cup, compounded with the injury list, I’d be more than happy if we fielded a side with no defenders for fear of extending that list. At least then we wouldn’t have the lone striker argument on here
Bobbie on talkshyte this morning said it is a chance to play his young brit players.so I don’t think there will be to much difference in the squad from the first game.wigan 1.0.

With a home game against Sunderland on Saturday, Martinez will not risk his first team on a return trip to Bournemouth will the possibility of extra time and penalties.
With the loss of Ramis for the season, he may be even more cautious than in the home game. I don’t expect him to play Boyce, Stam or Figueroa.
So I think that Bournemouth have the momentum to win against a very inexperienced Wigan. But if Gomez plays and scores a hat-trick…
Personally i think Bobby will field a stronger side than he did in the first game but still with plenty of fringe players included.
If he resorts to a side similar to that of the first game then i fear Bournemouth’ endeavour will get the win. However, in the case as mentioned in the above paragraph, i feel we will win quite comfortably given the extra quality on the pitch and th fact that Bournemouth coming at us strong will suit our counter attacking perfectly.
Here’s a vaild point though, already knowing that the next match is away at Macclesfield, does this not give Roberto another opportunity to try out youngsters/fringe players? That lends itself to ensuring victory tonight. If not, the youngsters are back in the dark until the 2nd round of the league cup next season.
their confidence helps them find that extra energy and momentum.
No it doesn’t.. we aren’t playing FIFA.. If a players body is tired then it’s tired.. Playing well doesn’t magically heal them.

I used to play union at a high standard and played competitive games weekly on a saturday and sunday snd trained every day of the week. When we were winning I couldn’t wait for a week to pass before the next match; when we were losing I didn’t want to get out of bed and pulled any old excuse not to train.
These are premier league players who shoukd be fit enough to play every week and the odd midweek game. Funny how teams that are winning week in week out don’t seem to get tired – it always seems to be the excuse of the struggling teams.
Anyhows, we won. Roll on Saturday, when I’m sure Figs, Boyce and Stam will all be playing ;)
