I always remember an interview with Bill Shankly and his number two Bob Paisley. They insisted on playing “their way” and letting the opposition worry about them. In this day and age it’s far too much analysis of the opposition and about stopping them scoring. The football was far more exciting in the 70s, 80s, 90s; now it’s gone far too analytical that it’s more boring than accountancy. Me and HORC can remember coming off games in the Paul Jewell era and feeling exhausted, as if we’d actually been on the pitch for 90 mins. Now, we rarely leap out of our seats, unless we need the Gents !
Real football is dead ! Football has been ruined by Sky, greed, VAR, etc.

And that’s his problem, overthinking and over studying the opposition. We proved we can be a force in this division and other managers who’ve played us agree with that but this tippy tappy football at the back and the hotswapping of 4-5 players every game doesn’t help.
Good managers find their feet early doors, stick to their philosophy on how the game should be played and when players are injured or banned their replacement slots in like for like.
I so badly want Maloney to succeed he’s a part of this club and I want him to drive us forward away from the abyss we nearly fell in but from what I’ve seen in the last 5 League games were driving in reverse not 3rd or 4th.
