I thought he were cack anyway, def cost us a lot of goal
20 June 2017 at 10:36 pm #159915I just wished that a little honesty would be used instead of bullshit like wanting to be near Notts. FFS I travelled further as a fan every home game even in the 90s when things were dire. Mostly I would come straight from work. If the lad wants away and go to another club then just say that of if the club wants to reduce the wage bill then be upfront about it. Fans will respect it more. Buxton will be a Brewer before the season starts.

From Matlock to ManU

Its part of the job today jr the travelling. Many players and managers travel many miles per week so they can live in the place of their preference. I just think its a lame excuse on the lads part and would rather him be honest. Nobody can blame him if he wants to play in the championship and he would probably have preferred to go to Burton last season had they paid the money for him so I wish him well despite being disappointed he has left.

21 June 2017 at 3:07 am #159923Better off the wage bill (presumably we were paying him Championship wages) and get someone in that is more affordable.I’d like to think that after getting their fingers burnt with a lack of relegation wage-cut clauses in 2015, anyone signed thereafter would have one by default – especially when signing players as a newly promoted club.
Buying players and then letting them go for free (or worse still paying them to leave for free) is not a great business model.
21 June 2017 at 12:56 pm #159926Why release him so early I understand the clubs paying him but surely they could of waited to see if another club comes in with an offer first.
Jake must have something up his sleeve he has no club no training and no wages.21 June 2017 at 1:19 pm #159928He’s gone on a free transfer all his career, in other words he ain’t worth jack shit!

You’re right, commuting is part of life, but if he has a young family, I understand where he’s coming from.I struggle with time to fit in my kids’ sports and school activities, and I only commute to and from Cheadle, so it must be a nightmare to try and do that if you’re in Wigan and the rest of the family are in Nottingham.
He was born and raised in East Midlands, and has only played for East Midlands clubs prior to Wigan, so it was probably a wrench for him to move out of the area.
I remember David Unsworth doing something similar in the 90s when he left Everton for West Ham, but his family didn’t like London, so they moved back up North and he signed for Villa, but he then found the commute too much and he resigned for Everton.
In this case I don’t think it has anything do to with wanting to play in the Championship – as he was being paid more at Wigan than Burton could offer him anyway. I think it is him genuinely wanting to go back to where his family is.

Burton were never going to pay anything for him, and even if they had paid a fee, after agent’s fees, bonuses, his weekly wage while the process goes through etc, it would have been peanuts it. Easier to rip up the contract use the money saved on his salary for new payers.
21 June 2017 at 2:41 pm #159932I was never a fan of Buxton. Too slow and clumsy, just not my type of player. If you put him alongside someone like, I don’t know, De Zeeuw or Jackson when they played for us, there’s no comparison with them. If he wasn’t wanted by Derby, admittedly historically a bigger club than us, but one that we have been ahead of, for the most part in the last decade, I’m not sure why we thought he would be good enough for us. This is a bit daft me saying this, but Burton are a club probably at his level. By that I mean, they’re going to be battling against relegation in the Championship next season.
Whilst we are having a squash buckling season at the top of League one, celebrating with 3000 away fans at the Keepmoat stadium come May, and saying what great signings Terry Thomas and Chey Dunkley have been this season.
That’s how we roll at Latics.

You’d think Buxton was brilliant they way you’ve moaned. He was SHITE.
Some of the weirdest people I’ve ever known in my life follow Latics, or at least post on here. Not sure you are actually supporters….probably just trolls….
