Callum McManaman has returned to Wigan on a free transfer fact

Mutty, maybe your new owner coming from lower leagues is exactly what Sunderland need. Someone who understands the pyramid system instead of just being rich with big ideas but no experience of what it takes to run a club. He is certainly changing the attitude and off loading the superstars he feels he needs to shift. Good luck to the fella and Sunderland I’ve always had a soft spot for them after the 73 final. And they piss the barcodes right off. Now there is a club who are totally up themselves.

No need for sour grapes Mutty

No sour grapes here Horc – just someone supportive of the new owner’s approach. In case you weren’t aware, just before pre-season, all bar one of the senior squad indicated that they would like to leave the club. The response from the owners was that they could leave as long as two conditions were met:

        1. Any buying club met Sunderland’s valuation of the player.
        2. There would be no pay-off and no part-subsidising of wages.

Players have subsequently left. Steele & Rodwell have gone, Asoro & Khazri have been sold, Kone is on his way, Oviedo will be leaving soon, and McManaman has now gone. I fully expect more to leave over the next two weeks, but each and every one will leave on our terms. N’dong & Dilibodji have failed to return to training and the club are now not paying them, whilst still holding onto their registrations. To quote a senior source at the SOL – “The piss take party has ended”.

Every fortnight, there is a 2hr podcast with the owner, and he is refreshingly honest. He talks about finances, player movements and even the refitting of the seats! This week’s podcast discussed Macmanaman, and there was no indication he was going. That suggests that your bid has matched or exceeded the valuation Sunderland put on him, and as the first priority this season is to shift high earners who have no desire to graft in the 3rd division, then his leaving for a fee and no pay-off represents a great deal.

I wish him luck back at Wigan. Since he bailed out on you 3 years ago, he’s not exactly set the world on fire, so hopefully returning to a club where he was successful will help him and you.
2 HR podcast. Bloody hell we are lucky to get any news/updates/information of much interest in 2 months.
Watched a clip from the training camp playing Gibraltar, yes it’s only training but if you use binoculars you can see he’s quick on his feet and full of confidence at being back at Wigan, chuffed for the lad could be the deal of the season.
