Over the past 6 years my very good ES7 friends and other WAFC fans have generously given to my own annual fund raiser. In the past they’ve supported Joseph’s goal x 2, Wafc Community Trust, L2A prostate Cancer, WAFC t shirts to Uganda and Zimbabwe. This yaer I’ve chosen to give my ES7 friends some calm, to help CALM. Read on.

      SPONSORED SILENCE!!!!

CALM stands for the Campaign Against Living Miserably. https://www.thecalmzone.net/

Why is CALM my ES7 fund raiser this year?

The unexpected death by suicide of my 43 – year-old brother in law revealed to me the shock, devastation and endless ripples that it causes – his family, friends and colleagues suffered immeasurably both mentally and physically; it deeply affected us all & changed our lives for ever.

Over the years I have been on three trains which were involved in suicides – most recently a month ago. I’ve also had some ‘dark periods’ of my own.

So many are affected – family, friends, colleagues as well as those involved such as the train driver, or the person who finds the body, police, sometimes medical staff are involved – the list is endless.

It is an award-winning charity dedicated to help prevent male suicide; the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.

Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM runs a free and confidential helpline and webchat – 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk.

CALM also supports those bereaved by suicide, through the Support After Suicide Partnership (SASP).

CALM campaigns to spread awareness of suicide and its devastating impact.

CALM challenges male stereotypes and encourages positive behavioural change and help-seeking behaviour. Many men do not seek professional help for their despair.

For the Swansea game I am doing a sponsored silence, from entry to the ground to leaving at the end of the game. For once you’ll have peace and quiet! If Wigan don’t score in the game I will continue until WAFC score a goal, home or away!!!

      RULES:

Exuberance will still be allowed as will the goal scoring hug, both hopefully silent.

      Masking tape is prohibited.

Ref, assistant ref, lines people and 4th official will all be present.

VAR will not be used but arguing with the referee will be referred to Sepp Blatter, Paul Cook and SIR Ben Watson.

Noise will be punished with a yellow card (£10 payable by myself)

2 yellow cards, as we know = RED. If a red card is issued, I’ll add the same number of pounds as the number of minutes passed at the issuing of the red card. Red cards cannot be appealed.

A 3nd yellow card will be punished with another fine, this time £20.

A 2nd red card and I may double donations, depending on how much I have!

A sending off / out is impossible.

Only certain written communication is allowed – to be decided by me.

If you would like to sponsor me, I’d be delighted as will all those who will benefit from your kindness. Either cash or ‘JustGiving’:

Good luck mate, I hope you raise loads of cash, but just as important raise loads of awareness for the cause.
I will try to plugged it for you as much as possible on the ‘Guess the Gate’ page.
Have you written to the club to see if there is anything they could do for you?
Maybe message Jayt, he might be able to pull a few strings wearing his SLO hat.

            Right folks.
I am completely sure that GG will not push this further, but I will.
            I actually witnessed this today.
GG did all that he promised – he even had his mouth sellotaped up. A real trooper.
So – I know he won’t raise the issue again but the cause is a hugely worthwhile one. Suicide is a huge blight on our society. How can we be thought to be a reasonable rational society that allows this?
GG has had donations from 9 people. I’m sure we at Cockney Latic can improve on that. It’s a matter of group pride.
It doesn’t need to be much, and if you pay tax (who doesn’t these days? Oh yes, Amazon) the Government will pay towards it (and that can’t be bad can it?)
A quid or so may just make a difference.
