Not really, it proves that we can beat Arsenal, yet if you want further reasons to be optimistic, I’m not a miracle worker but I’ll do my best.

Arsenal lost 3-2 to West Brom at home with a full strength eleven, and we are of a similar standard if not a better standard than West Brom.

I took a last minute goal for Arsenal to beat West Ham at home, a team I am pretty certain we’re better than.

Arsenal’s problems in the goalkeeping area are very well documented and is something we can take advantage of.

Arsenal are well known for fielding youngsters in the Carling Cup, although they are good players, we can use this as an advantage. Our more experienced players have the potential to control the game.

COnsidering we beat them last season, Martinez has shown that he knows how to beat Arsenal, oh plus Liverpool and Chelsea too.

The Carling Cup is a welcome distraction from the League and could give the team relief and freedom to play with less pressure.

The team will be fired up by the Quarter-Final and the chance of a potential Semi-Final.

      Anymore points welcome.

West Brom must be better than us, just look at the league standings !! They also got a draw at Old Trafford something we have never managed !

West Ham were very defensive yesterday and if it wasn’t for Green’s heroics in goal it would have no doubt been a debacle.

They have sorted the keeper situation for now.

The Arsenal youngsters are better than our more experienced players, it doesn’t take a genius to see that !

We beat them last season ? Did they not beat themselves with some schoolboy style defending ! They wont do that again in a hurry !!

I dont quite understand your last statement about pressure relief but I will agree it is a cup game and strange things can happen but like I said I wouldn’t hold my breath because we cant score goals, have the least touches in the penalty area statistic ( Fact ) and we have the 2nd worst goals conceded statistic to our name ! Am I a darksider ? It would appear so on this subject, however you are more than welcome to come back and gloat should we pull off a very difficult task ;)

Would be nice if the quarter final could fall between a couple of champions league games, the league cup may then just be a inconvenience for the gooners!

I agree that we probably don’t win, yet I don’t get all the pessimism that has been shown. Potentially we could cause an upset, much stranger things have happened.

Like I said stranger things have happened in cup games ! I just wish ( going back to my original post ) that we had drawn a lesser rival and at home ! Two legged games are a different kettle of fish and if we get to that then who knows but it is doubtful now in my opinion sorry ! :(

Lesser rivals? I didn’t know we had a rivalry with Arsenal at all. You learn something new everyday eh?

Wenger’s philosophy this season is to go for everything this season, and there was only one other prem side in the last 16 that put out a stronger team than us – Arsenal.

We will have to be at our very very best (even if he disrespects ;) us by putting out the kids) esp. as the game is only a few days after West Ham away.

Didn’t we beat Arsenal on our way to the last final we reached?
Dont recall beating them at their place. In fact as I remember it we got beaten on the night.[/quote]

Not once did I mention beating Arsenal at their place. I said we beat them on the way to the final. That meant we had to get a result over 2 legs which we duly did. We can win at their place there’s no doubt about that in my mind. Whether we will I’m not so sure, but lets not throw the towel in before we’ve stepped into the ring.

                  What a journey!
