We should be looking to Midfield for our current woes. Not enough protection for the back 4, and lack of service to the striker, we dont control the game.

Carson aint perfect but he is a decent keeper.

Carson on the whole is a decent keeper, a little dodgy with crosses and his new penalty positioning technique is shit but he more than makes up for those 2 cons with some World class saves. Not sure what possessed him to go in feet first on Saturday though and that for me goes down as a mistake. He was very lucky to stay on the pitch, the refs reason for not sending him off was laughable to be honest ! Carson gets an 8 out of 10 for me so far !

One would have to say that if the ten players in front of Carson were doing there jobs ie closing down opposition players the said goalkeeper would have less to do

        #122505

First priority – find some forwards who can start a game and finish a move.

Second priority – give some organisation to our midfield – and our wingers – both in and out of possession. Yes, I know, that might be asking a lot.

Then we can come back to this discussion about Carson.

and that is the difference between top goal keepers and ones playing for WAFC.

Liverpool, Aston Villa and WBA all let Carson go because he is error prone, he was good enough to become an England squad regular and was booted out because of the errors I am talking about.

It might have escaped your attention since you became a huge, successful global travel operator but top goalkeepers play for top clubs. We aren’t, weren’t and never will be, a top club.

        He’s good enough for us.[/quote]

Your inability to read is probably what is stopping you becoming a “successful global” author, well apart from not being very good either, that lack of ability seems to leave you the needing to lash out with pathetic comments, I cannot understand your need to use sarcastic adjectives when you reply to my posts.

Anyway going back to you not reading before you open your stupid gob, this was my first post.

“Last two games have shown why he is playing for us in the championship, in general he is a good goal keeper, but the mistakes that led to the goals in his last 2 games are what have blighted his whole career”.

I forgot this that I posted as well just in case you need any more evidence of your inability to read.

“I agree, watching Carson for 95% of the time in a game you think he’s world class at times, its the other 5% that separates him from being a top class one and the reason he his playing for us“.

As a keeper coming out in a situation like that you have 2 choices:
        1) To go out to the ball as LMB suggests in his original post
        2) To go out to the ball in the way that Peter Schmeichel pioneered which I think was developed from his time as a Handball keeper

The problem with the first option is that it makes it much easier for the attacker to score as you’re giving them much more of the goal to aim at. The problem with the second option is that once you’ve committed, unless you make really godo contact with the ball, you are going to clatter the attacker & the momentum of your legs is likely to carry on in the manner that Carson’s did.
The mistake IMO wasn’t that he chose the wrong option when going to close Gosling down but that he misjudged the bounce of the ball slightly meaning that he went over the ball & connected with the man first. For me that would just as likely have happened had he gone in side on & he would also then still have caught Gosling & given away a penalty.
He adopted the same approach for Ince’s chance later on & made a great block. had he gone in side on I think Ince would have scored

I think the position of goalkeeper is the least of our worries at the moment.

          Agreed.

If Coyle doesn’t think Holt can play 90 minutes then start with him and take him off when he’s knackered not the other way round when we’re losing.

Holt should start with Powell behind him with Fortune on the bench for reinforcements if required.

I couldn’t understand why at least one of them didn’t start, Coyle doesn’t seem to fancy Espinoza either, would have thought he deserved a chance .

As a fisherman I often see bait wriggling on the end of the hook, so its not hard to spot a maggot squirming for want of a better retort. B)

Come on L, surely you mean bait wriggling ON the hook, not AT THE END OF IT.

            Anyway,

There is a company in Yorkshire that will supply worm though the post and it’s called Wriggly Worms. Not cheap though.

            Lobs.
