Show of hands people!
I am 50/50 at the moment.
The next 12 months is a testing time for the Salford household if I am being honest which means sacrifices have to be made and I want to save as much money as I can for as many away days as I can next season.
How do we think it will pan out in terms of us being prepared for the game?
I am estimating we will have played our first championship game before the Charity Shield?
Could that give us an edge in terms of match fitness due to the later start of the PL?
19 June 2013 at 4:14 am #116568As Michael Jackson once said…..
are you sure they are only pain killers?:woohoo: “I’ll be there” :cheer:From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!19 June 2013 at 8:25 am #116571Hotel booked, looking forward to a good day out and hopefully adding to our silverware .
19 June 2013 at 12:02 pm #116576Me and the two kids are going (wife un-decided as yet) only really going to say we have been to a charity shield game, as it is unlikely to happen agian in my life time.
This would then give me a full set i.e. FA Cup, League cup, Freight Rover, Auto Windscreen, play Off’s and Merchantile Credit weekend. Once I have been to Europe (and the fact we have beat Man Urinal) I can die a happy man (many years from now hopefully !!!)19 June 2013 at 2:17 pm #116589What are the chances of Wigan Athletic playing in the Charity Shield again? I’ll be there.
19 June 2013 at 3:30 pm #116592Unfortunately, we are going to be in Portugal on our summer holidays. Still two Wembley visits under our belts. They will never be forgotten!!
19 June 2013 at 4:01 pm #116594A meaningless friendly that will not even interest a full allocation of Utd fans let alone Wigan fans ! Do they think we are fuckin made of money ! A big NO from me but I will no doubt use it as an excuse to go to the pub !
I originally put money making trophy completely ignoring the operative word ” Charity ” ! I am sure however that some fucker will line their pockets though !
19 June 2013 at 4:09 pm #116595If it was recent addition to the football calendar (i.e post Premier League) I would agree with you about it being simply a money making scheme. But it is a long standing fixture with some tradition, although I admit it’s simply a glorified pre season friendly. I’m not naive enough to believe the authorities aren’t lining their pockets to some extent, but the prices are a fraction of Cup Final prices and a percentage (I don’t know what percentage) does go to grass roots and other worthy causes.
I don’t view this event with the same cynicism as a lot of modern day football fixtures and so I’ll definitely be making the third trip to Wembley within a matter of months.
19 June 2013 at 4:16 pm #116596I will be there yes.
It’s yet another historic occasion for our club. The Charity Shield is a game of football that is basically reserved for the 2 elite clubs in England. A. The Premier League Champions and B. The FA Cup Champions.
Just to be a part of this match no matter what the circumstances of the game itself is an honour for our club.
A 3rd visit to Wembley from as low as £25 a ticket with return train tickets around £20-£30 is very affordable.
Another addition to our trophy cabinet? Let’s hope so.
19 June 2013 at 4:58 pm #116600Can’t be there as also on holiday, gutted really. Being successful does have it’s downside ah, too many trips to Wembley!!
19 June 2013 at 5:44 pm #116601too many trips to Wembley!!I bet nobody ever thought we would have that problem! :cheer:
19 June 2013 at 6:43 pm #116602If anyone does bother to go we are running coaches as we did for the semi final and final, the difference being it looks like the hire cost will be cheaper than the inflated prices for the FA Cup games, intitial inquiries suggest the maximum cost per seat will be £27.50, and with a little luck and the right numbers booking, even a little less.
As we did for the previous trips there will be a pre-booked stop for a meal, this time breakfast, again the trip will be used to raise money for the Joseph’s Goal Charity hoping to add to the near £2000 raised by generous Wiganers on those trips.
The coaches will be again family groups, no alcohol format.
Please PM me for further details.

Do I get mates rates?
19 June 2013 at 8:09 pm #116605Really want to go but it clashes with my wedding anniversary.
To save on a costly divorce I came up with the plan of taking the family along & having a weekend away but the cost of travel down & back, match tickets, hotel (2 nights), a “show”, eating out, travel round London & other odds & sods is taking it out of my reach financially after having already forked out for 2 Wembley trips for myself & a family holiday
Looks like I’ll be watching this one at home19 June 2013 at 10:01 pm #116611Not going. looked at the feasibility of a return trip for me and my lad from South of France but it’s just not on. The missus has already got the hump cos I’ve insisted we drive back a day early so I can make the Donny home game.
