Agreed but it could also destroy us the beginning of the end Grumpy by name grumpy by nature
5 July 2013 at 3:01 pm #117343Personally if I was to name my top 10 WAFC moments from the last 10 years then 6 are with Martinez at the helm.
Then you are not old enough lad, extend WAFC moments over the last 40 years and then see
Apologies for only being 26 and only watching us since 1994. However, when I sit my children down in x amount of years and teach them about WAFC then I would imagine that “We beat Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea and won the FA Cup against Man City” will be where my focus mainly lies as opposed to “I remember beating Chester 4-2”
Of course we have a history prior to the last decade but like it or not the last decade is the most prestigious and as I said, 6 of the top 10 things I’ll remember from it are with him at the helm. Similarly, there are a few from the decade previous that involved him as a player.
5 July 2013 at 3:04 pm #117344For the record (in chronological order)
Seeing us promoted to the Premier League
Seeing us beat Everton away
Seeing us beat Arsenal in the League Cup and reach CardiffEmile Heskey’s goal at Chelsea that cost them the title and kept us up
Beating Liverpool
Beating Arsenal
Beating Man Utd
The Great Escape
Making the FA Cup final
Winning the FA Cup final5 July 2013 at 3:18 pm #117348Good management is making the most of your resources, and Martinez had the smallest resources in the Premier League.
Before the Cup Final, the common attitude was that winning the cup would be worth getting relegated. Well, we got both, so there should be no complaints.

Okay, so if you are extending to 40 years, what would you include?Surely the top three have to be:
Winning the FA Cup
Winning promotion to the Premier League
Joining the Foootball LeagueHe’s given us one of them.
The lad said 6 with Martinez, you have mentioned 3, and only 1 of them was with our ex manager. I stand by what I said.

Don’t apologise for only being 26 lad, someone has to be. It’s just that, with age, I have seen a bit more and, to be honest, there were more memorable times previously. It’s a case of “you had to be there”. In 20 years time when your talking to your x kids them 6 you mentioned will be down to 1.
5 July 2013 at 5:41 pm #117354No they’ll still be 6. Unless of course we bounce back this year and suddenly become a bigger club than all of those and beat them regularly but even then it was a massive achievement that will always stick with me. Similar to when we were lower league and beat bigger clubs. Just because we ended up in the Premier League doesn’t make those feats any less enjoyable.

To be fair he did say “my” top 10 WAFC moments so he was only referring to the things which he had experienced himself. Lots of special/memorable things to look back on over the last 4 years.
Just bad timing that he (in fact anyone) missed out on things like Maurice Whittle’s FA Cup goal v Sheff Wed in 1977, the 5-3 vs Port Vale, Aldershot away in 1982, beating Chelsea 4-2, winning the FRT in 1985, etc.5 July 2013 at 6:05 pm #117356My top 10 in no order. In 20 years of watching
Winning the F.A Cup
Reaching the Premiership
My first game on Springy Park
Again – Beating Arsenal and reaching Cardiff
Beating Man City in the League Cup (Neil Roberts,The noise when we scored)
Stoke 6-1
Oldham and Bury away days
Seeing the likes of Henry, Ronaldo and Giggs a few feet away from me
Sitting in the tree behind the away stand at Springy Park when i couldn’t get 4 quid

Correct, he did say 6. Correct I have only mentioned 3.I was asking you what you would include over the past 40 years.
But as you are obviously avoiding the question and just picking up on other people’s opinions, here are my six over the past 35 years – in descending order:
Winning the FA Cup
Winning promotion to the Premier League
The final run-in of the 2011-2012, which included beating Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal
Football League Trophy
Freight Rover Trophy
Joining The Football League (I was 8 years old at the time so the significance was pretty much lost on me)5 July 2013 at 7:16 pm #117359Beating Man City in the League Cup (Neil Roberts,The noise when we scored)That is only second to the FA Cup win for me.
Possibly something to do with the amount of city fan’s I went to school with
6 July 2013 at 1:12 am #117389that FA cup win was second to none qualifying for Europe priceless BUT numnuts has really got to me how hes left us, Coyle good luck (and he wasn`t my fist choice) I`m more p*ssed were in Europe and I`ve no jollies left role on the new year for the next group stage and hes still a TOSSER
6 July 2013 at 2:04 am #117395I’m 41 & I’m not bothered when people started supporting us, just that they do through thick and thin from now onwards, I can’t hide my disappointment that Roberto’s left us in a lower league than he found us, I’m just glad he realised his short comings and was able to get usc£1.5 million compo when he should have been sacked, good luck Everton, I think u will need it .

6 July 2013 at 2:48 am #117408Martinez never won promotion with Wigan; there’s a chance for Coyle to put one over on him there.
