What a ride. If someone had said to me in the third division we would have climbed to the Premier League, stayed there for eight years with a Carling cup final and an Fa Cup win I’d have had you sectioned.

Still gutted but I think we can hold our heads high as a club and as supporters.

      Of course we can.

When we got in the Premier League I bought an away season ticket, as i figured we would only be there one season. After the first away game at Charlton we said that it was going to be a long season.

But we survived – again and again and again.

We now drop back a step to a level many of us never dreamed we would reach anyway.

And at least we can sing the old “… up the Football League we go; and when we win promotion this is what we’ll sing….” song again.

Good riddance to the Premier League, it’s ruined my enjoyment of football!

Onwards & upwards. At least we have had the experience of the top tier.
Keep the majority of the squad & who knows.

Getting to the Premier League was infinitely better than being there. Let’s hope we can enjoy that feeling again.

And if offered it again I’d still take winning the FA Cup over Premier League survival.

People will deride and mock about having to play Doncaster etc but I’m quite looking forward to some places with actual character and soul about them. Will bring back some great memories of away days in the lower divisions.

Might actually get some better away attendances with cheaper prices and the lack of streams on offer.

I was dreading this day but after Saturday, The Premiership just doesn’t seem to matter any more. We have enough money for a good promotion push, Get some good hungry Championship players like Billy Sharp etc and rebuild. We will inevitably now lose Maloney, Kone, Joel, McManaman, Figgy, Ramis Alcaraz and McCarthy but we still have solid Championship players like Gomez, McCarthur (though premiership standard, No one will want him though) Espinoza, Lopez, Watson and Beaseajour (who although is dross in the prem, will be a danger a league down) I am also looking forward to seeing Nicholls after all his hype. Dicko, Redmond in the squad. Golobart art number 5 if he stays on. Getting rid of players like Stam, Boyce, Di Santo and Scharner. We have a great chance to rebuild this team that has been slowly degrading for a couple of years now. Out with the old and in with the new, A refresher. We will also save a bomb on wages. Hope to god Martinez stays but i very much doubt it now with the deafening silence at Goodison. Graeme Jones to stay on please. if not then get on the blower to Gary Neville.

Without a doubt. There is one here for starters. Getting away from the money league is already rekindling my interest. I just can’t wait for some of the away days already. I was 20 when we went up and had spend my adult(ish) life travelling to away games from about 15 to some great and ugly crappy stadium places. But they were great, Memories of all sorts of stuff in weird far flung places.

Wigan Athletic have only ever had 10 years in the top two flights. Being on the Championship ain’t so bad. We all enjoyed those two years.

Everybody said we would be straight down after one year. Well we’ve had 8, we’ve been to a league cup final and won an FA Cup. Next season we will be in Europe. Party time at Villa. We need to celebrate 8 glorious year and one glorious Saturday at Wembley.

Plus there’s a tonne of awesome away games to look forward to next year (and Europe aways). And I agree with those who think we might actually get better away attendances next season.

This is Wigan Athletic. Playing in the Championship was just a pipe dream not so long ago.

He didn’t respond to the ” are you staying question ” but to be fair I wouldn’t read too much into that. Without any club actually approaching him, he may not know yet the calibre of club that will come knocking and so is to right to keep quiet until the dust has settled and everyone has put their cards on the table.

He might go but I don’t think he has made a decision for definite yet.

No way will Kone, Ramis, Maloney and Macmanaman all leave. Maloney signed a new contract in the new year so must have known relegation was a possibility, Ramis wont be fit for new season so is unlikely to attract anybody and Macmanaman has scored 2 goals and played well around 4 times for the club. I would be amazed if all those quoted left. Like it or lump it Martinez has taken us down and he owes it to us having stuck with him season in season out to at least try to get us back up.

                    what exactly do contracts mean?
don’t you think there will be a few clauses in them.

It’s a strange feeling, but the disappoint felt of relegation from the PL tonight is nowhere near as great as the ecstasy felt after winning the FA Cup on Saturday.
I thought I would have been really gutted and inconsolable, but I somehow feel an excitement for the new season.
It feels like a new start with something other than survival to strive for.
Lets give the players a good send off at the weekend, and look forward and build for a promotion challenge next season.

Having been there on Saturday, I wouldn’t swap it for an extra 6 points.

What would you rather have, memories of hanging on in there at the end of a season
Or a glorious day in May with hundreds of millions of people
Watching you turn over a super rich team?

                        No question. FA cup winners.

Aye but clauses will say you will have to pay x amount surely. Its a win win. If we sell we will have a big players fund. Macarthy, kone, Macmanaman and Maloney must be worth more than 30 million. With parachute payments and 4-5 million extra for FA and Europa league we shouldnt exactly be pessimistic about an instant return. We havent exactly struggled against championship opposition with our reserves this season.
