Hang him out to dry I say just like he wanted to do with Whelan over some half baked old mans comments.

    Spot on Fella.[/quote]

    In court tomorrow.
If I were Dave Whelan, I’d text him a Good Luck message ( tongue in cheek ).

Just admitted that he was attempting to take his own life! Not a care for the lorry driver or the family and friends he would have left behind wondering why? No sympathy from me whatsoever the selfish bastard!

It’s a dark place that takes you there Phil, being selfish would be the last thing on your mind I can only imagine. Would have thought a lorry would have finished him off mind so somehow it went wrong or he got his cry for help answered.

It is not your sympathy or mine that he needs. It is only that of his loved ones that matters.

If explaining that he was attempting to take his own life encourages others in a similar position to reach out, then that’s the one positive that can come from this.

I think what filmoss was getting at Tez is that jumping in front of a lorry to kill yourself is in itself a selfish act insomuch as it would leave a devastated driver to continue with his life afterwards.

My Father-in-Law is a train driver and has had similar experiences. Suicide isn’t a solitary act if you involve someone else in the taking of your life.

Totally understand where you are both coming from. Train drivers have a hell of a time with this type of thing.

There are no winners out of those that are left.

Lets no forget what he did in the first instance, drink & drive. It will take a high profile sports person celeb , whatever to kill someone before this is taken seriously like that little prick Berahino 110mph ? arshole.
Though I have some sympathy for Clarke Carlisle this doesn’t give him the right to drink drive. He could have easily killed someone and ruined the lorry drivers life then he comes on the TV all apologetic ?, that means nothing.

Berahino got a £3400 fine 12 month ban absolute joke for someone young West Brom fans look up to. The FA need to start banning players 6-12 months at a time and 10%-15% of their yearly earnings and see how they take to that. Playing in the prem comes with responsibilities and they should be aware of it.

Sounds well when you can get a ban for mention super mario and ball all for doing 110mph while pissed.

Adopting the Swiss system, where the speeding fine is a portion of the salary would hit guys like Berahino harder. This would have to be law and not an FA initiative.

The case of drink & drive is one topic. Whoever does this has to face the music.
Depression and the desire to commit suicide is a very personal topic, so let’s try not to understand or judge from a distance.
According to some research, the suicide success rate is 4%. That itself tells its own story.

This is his second D/D offence.
When the police issue a statement that says “he failed to give a roadside sample”: it usually means that the culprit was so drunk that they were incapable of blowing in the bag. So, no mercy I’m afraid.

Was his public stabbing of Dave Whelan just another cheap way of getting himself back into the media frame; I think so !

Think he should apologise to Dave Whelan, since he is hardly the moral upstanding representative of football.

That said, I do have a thread of sympathy for him; even though he has had considerably better lifestyle than many of us,

I don’t. He had the money, the support, the lifestyle, the facilities, the right people, the adulation, the medical advice and help (if it was ever needed)…everything more than the humble man on the street who finds/found himself in that situation.

He began to believe his own hype, became arrogant, thought he was untouchable and p!ssed it all away without a care in the world for anyone else. Also, as you said, his public stabbing of Dave Whelan to get back into the limelight was disgusting. The media is full of car-crash (s’cuse the pun) ex-celebrities/players and I think this stage managed media interview showing him confessing to wanting to commit suicide smacks of the cheap tricks Gary Glitter used to get out of his disgraceful wrongdoings.

As a trucker myself I agree that his act was totally selfish. When a person is seriously injured or killed in an incident with a goods vehicle. the ministry of transport are brought in and the drivers records are taken and he is put under investigation. If he has made any mistakes previous to the accident he can then be prosecuted for any earlier errors. So while Carlisle was recovering in hospital receiving good will messages, an innocent driver was possibly being scrutinised. All this from a guy who spouts out what should be write and wrong and who himself has so many skeletons in the closet.

weather here in Tenerife is shite.

You can’t judge someone suffering from a diagnosed mental illness who has attempted to take their own life from the position of someone not suffering from that condition.

I hope no-one on here is ever in that position to be seriously contemplating taking their own life but those that do will invariably suffering from some form of mental illness (however temporary that may be) and far from doing it as a selfish act, often they are viewing it as completely the opposite. That’s no consolation to those they leave behind or those they involve in their act but those who do try it deserve the deepest sympathy & understanding

Having money, fame & adulation are no barriers against mental illness

I understand that Tilders and I would not want to be in that place ever but at the same time if you know you have serious issues in your life and you have a past that is not squeaky clean then you should not preach to others and promote a holier than thou image. Had he not given Mr Whelan dogs abuse for his unfortunate outburst he probably would not have been getting it returned now. Practice what you preach and all that.

No, I understand that. My implication is that the above could probably be attributed to his mental illness. Sometimes people have too much and are so blinkered that they lose sight of reality and then the void opens and in they fall. What I am saying is that his condition could have been avoided.

PS: (and this is not aimed at you fella) it’s so good to see that the karma buttons still work.
