are doing things right and are spot on with tactics
and who thinks its going t i t s up
i think whelan as had enough and is just sitting on the fence like a buzzard waiting for the scraps
bob well just a yes man brought in to do what he is told by his master
clueless in tactics and scared to change his style
are you a pinky and perky fan or not please tell31 October 2010 at 5:56 pm #49814Is that the same as being a Wigan Athletic Fan, or do I have to slate everything about Latics and everybody associated with Latics to be one.
Can you clarify? (you notice I have put this as a question and not a statement)

he’s going ……
31 October 2010 at 9:46 pm #49829Where’s he going Sephton? The suspense is killing me!
As for Bobby’s tactics, I for one am 100% behind him playing a short passing game, yet I think he needs a few adaptions.
Firstly, if we are to play 1 up front, he either needs a highly skilled ‘hole player’ behind him or he needs to be a complete striker. The striker needs to be versatile, he needs to be able to come deep, hold the ball up, work the defence’s channels and ultimately score goals. Considering we don’t have and are unlikely to have that player any time soon, I suggest Bob plays 2 up front, at home anyway.
I think Boselli would be a much improved player with Di Santo or Rodallega up front with him. He looks like a typical poacher to me, in the mold of Van Nistelrooy or Inzaghi. Poachers need support though as they are usually poor build up players, as we have seen from Boselli. Playing him with the pace of Di Santo or Hugo would provide both strikers more chances, and hopefully more goals.
There are other factors, but blatantly, I can’t be bothereed to describe them.
31 October 2010 at 10:44 pm #49832If we play Franco Di Santo up front, on his own he normally he plays wery well with Hugo and Charles on the wings.
It might be that without McCarthy, he [Di Santo] gets less time with the ball, but his ‘attacking replacement’ – Diame, has done very well adjusting to his new role.
The majority of people (like me) might think of it as a one off, as Martinez said; it was our worst performance of the season – possibly the worst as Bobby as manager.
This was our 1st full Premier League game without McCarthy, and what we keep calling 10 weeks – Martinez insists is 3 months [12 weeks] so I can see this being very much like the Moses saga. It might be that we need to bring Gomez/Watson in the team to replace Cleverley/Thomas, because Cleverley can’t last 90 mins and Thomas hasn’t been playing as well as Diame or Gomez.
If we fail to produce a decent amount of opportunities against Blackburn – I reckon we’ll be in the relegation zone for quite a while.
Next 2 games – without Boyce …..
… God help Stam, that’s all I can say
31 October 2010 at 10:54 pm #49835Firstly, although di Santo has been playing okay, but not very well by any means, ultimately strikers are judged on how many goals they score, and he has none.
If he had a partner, or if we played Hugo and Boselli up front, we’d score far more goals imo.
And losing McCarthy will undoubtedly affect the team, we have no replacement for his energy in midfield. I’m concerned that we have to rely on a young lad to run our midfield, even if he is a very good player.
And I wouldn’t sweat too much about Boyce, he isn’t the best himself. Yet I understand your worries considering Stam isn’t the best defensively, from what we’ve seen. Anyone for Gohouri at right back?

Ok, Gohouri was pretty alright last season at Right Back, if Stam plays there against Blackburn we’re screwed – he’s not even half the size of some of those kids !
I backed Scotland – he was bad.
I backed Moreno – he was decent.
I backed Di Santo – he IS very goodHugo, Gomez, N’Zogbia, Watson, McCarthy, Moses and Boselli score the goals – Di Santo creates them and works hard.
31 October 2010 at 11:25 pm #49840I agree Di Santo is good, yet to be very good as a striker you have to be scoring goals yourself imo.
And between the seven players you’ve listed above, they have a combined total of three league goals, but I see your point.
He is improving and if he gets one goal, he could get many, but I don’t think he’s warranted a ‘very good’ rating so far.

ian rush
jimmy greaves
gary lineker
dennis law
gerd muller
hendrik larson
dixie dean
alan shearer
marco van basten
even roy of the rovers.WHAT HAVE ALL OF THE ABOVE GOT IN COMMON ?(apart from being considered great goal scorers in their day)
not one of that illustrious group would score many goals under martinez’s system
1 November 2010 at 8:52 pm #49931I know I’m being pedantic now, but are we talking before or after Roy Race’s helicopter crash?
1 November 2010 at 9:01 pm #49932How many strikers will he get through before the penny drops ? I’m beginning to think he’s a bit simple.
1 November 2010 at 9:17 pm #49934Do you? I don’t.I see that Di Santo is a creator more than he is a scorer yes, which is why he needs a partner.
Lmb, yes you’re right, but that’s because all the players listed are old and retired.
1 November 2010 at 9:45 pm #49937So you agree that 7 strikers/midfielders scoring 3 goals between them is good enough reason to have another striker that doesn’t score either?
There is some strange thinking going on here today
