Just wondering if Paul Cook is plotting a different way of playing even if only as a plan B. The signing of Macca and apparent pursuit of Wyke doesn’t fit if we are sticking to the lone striker. Where will Wyke fit in with Grigg and Vaughan not to mention Cole. It was noticeable during the WC that teams struggling reverted back to twin strikers so is the gaffer thinking about changing formations mid game. I know we have already done it on occasions but maybe we are putting more emphasis on it and he has the lads doing it on the training field. Only other reason for chasing Wyke is if one or more of our frontmen are departing which I hope not. COYL
23 July 2018 at 12:18 pm #170523There are rumours circulating on the facebook sites that cole wants out.
23 July 2018 at 1:38 pm #170524Strength in depth and the ability to change things as you say when it isn’t working.
McManaman may just replace Massey or Jacobs as first choice winger.
23 July 2018 at 2:46 pm #170525I think Cole will be fed up at being third in line for a start and will be leaving and especially so if Wyke arrives to take his place.
Ryan Colclough will probably be on his way too.23 July 2018 at 4:55 pm #170526I can’t see Cookie changing from a system that has served him so well to date NL. But it is always good to have a plan B, guess we’ll have to wait n see.
This league will definitely be tougher for both players & manager.23 July 2018 at 5:31 pm #170527I can’t see Cookie changing from a system that has served him so well to date NL. But it is always good to have a plan B, guess we’ll have to wait n see.

23 July 2018 at 6:10 pm #170528Imho the Championship is a step too far for Grigg as we already know. Why was Cole left at home when they went to Spain ?.
1 thing is for sure we need a huge improvement over last season. The divide between the Championship and League One level of play is bigger than ever. I just hope any new editions don’t become bench warmers simply because Cook has 1 way to play.23 July 2018 at 6:27 pm #170529Imho the Championship is a step too far for Grigg as we already know. Granted we didn’t concede many goals from then on in but we didn’t score any either.
23 July 2018 at 8:35 pm #170530Grigg is pretty much in the last chance saloon as far as having a future at Championship level (or above) & I for one hope he is able to succees
I know that technically he’s only really played there one season & that was with us but hasn’t he already been sold once or twice by clubs once they’ve got promoted/ So the impression that he’s an excellent Lge1 striker but not up to the step up is already out there.
He knows that feeling is out there too as you could tell by his comments once he’d scored a couple at the start of the 16/17 season. As for whether he is good enough, I always get the feeling that he lacks the extra pace needed in the Championship to get into the spaces he finds at Lge1 level & I do feel that he sometimes needs several chances to score before he puts one away & he’ll get less chances at a higher level
However you can’t argue that he did well at the start of that 16/17 season & it was only when Caldwell spoke about changing the tactics that the goals dried up. There was also some concerns that the birth of his child effected him & he was carrying a knee injury that eventually required surgeryFingers crossed he can silence the doubters
I also have my doubts about Power, Jacobs, Massey, Vaughan & several others
23 July 2018 at 11:15 pm #170531Correct me at the end the season if I’m wrong but grigg will get 15 minimum next season and that will more than keep us up if others ie Powell Jacobs MACCA pop up with a few we will defo be ok next season

Agree with all that which is why I think the signings of players like Hoolahan, Gibson and Perch (established at that level or above) will be good signings

No disrespect to Grigg but Walker had an absolute ‘Mare’ that night! ;)
24 July 2018 at 3:15 am #170542He seemed to struggle in cup against premier league defenders last year to be fair.

Everyone did well against City – doesn’t mean that they’re all good enough to play in the top flight
