Some players have been spent the summer doing individual training programs to be upto speed to impress during pre-season …. and now Mr Cook is taking the “LADS” away to Spain for a “Continental beer or two” in a virtually football free bonding session.

He would get to know the players better on the training pitch doing what they are supposed to do best…..Playing football not getting pissed!

That said, Cookie’s partial to a few pints himself!

        Fuck the EFL

Most clubs do it. It’s just that the managers don’t usually come out and tell the fans that they do it.

They won’t be out clubbing it, but he’ll make them put the hard work in, then they can relax at night and get a bit of team spirit together.

At the end of the day, they’re people just like you and me, and you need to balance the work and play to keep everyone motivated and happy.

We need that spirit back that we had 2 seasons ago. The chopping and changing of the squad probably didn’t help.

More like they’ll be knocking the spirits back!
Cant they do their bonding in Blackpool, and do the beach runs there? Any excuse for a piss up at the fans expense.

I remember a tale about bonding told to me by a Hindley fella called Bill Robinson, Well Bill was a good Rugby player in his day, played for Wigan and the GB national side.

Bill played in a test series against the Australians and in the first two tests GB were well and truly battered, the GB team just had no team spirit at all.

The evening before the third test, the team were gathered together told that the series was lost, each player was then given £5 and told to go out and enjoy themselves. As Bill said it was a lot of money in those days and so the squad set out for an evening around Wigan to do a bit of team bonding.

Come the day of the game the GB were all were nursing hangovers having over indulged but as Bill said they’d had the time of their lives.

In Bills words “we battered um, two of the Aussies were taken of before half time suffering from concussion, we were hungover but up for it”

It’s over 30 years ago I was told that tale, Bill is now probably long gone but I enjoyed listening to his tale. Anyway maybe a bit of bonding can do wonders.

The manager is given a budget for his pre-season, and this is what he’s deemed they need – rather than a week of running them into the ground in Austria.

I really can’t see why everyone is up in arms about it.

And I can just seem them all running down the beach at Blackpool – avoiding used needles and patches of quicksand.

The money could be better spent instead of pissing it up the wall!

Yeah i want to chip in here too and put my point forward as to why a bonding session is a good idea. A lot of players being vocally bagged and boo’d in the stands last season. Like Snowblind i would like to tell a little story i have. I have a friend who is a professional Rugby League player (Super League and well known) A couple of years ago the team he plays for were very thin on the ground and struggling for players. My mate put his hand up and said he would play even though he had been stood down. Why had he been stood down? His mother was gravely ill in hospital. He had a bad game and was abused something rotten from the stands “you lazy, fat c*nt” etc etc and he heard all this. No fan knew about his personal situation and when he should have really been applauded for giving it a go he was hammered by the fans on the day. After the match he went straight to the hospital and his mother died soon after on the same day. He decided then and there that he wanted to leave that club at the end of the season because what he had heard that day. Yes he had a bad game but he tried as hard as he could. He moved on and regained his form and is doing nicely now again.

The moral of the story is :- All the fans see are players on good wages ‘not pulling their weight’ but rather than shout abuse at them, there maybe more to it. Bonding sessions are a good idea for a healthy mind.

What’s the problem just look at the squad of Bullard and co I know for a fact that a good few of them liked a drink but they did the business on the pitch if that happens then what’s the problem of it doesn’t then it was a problem only time will tell

Certainly played as a team and also with some individual brilliance.
Just hope Cooky meets the same standards as Jewell and hopefully the club will back him in the same way PJ was backed.
