not very good that was it ,but i am afraid i cant take critism from a fan of a team and game that cant sell out a 14000 capacity stadium when one team is less than 5 miles away and the other team (the self appointed biggest team in the world)is 15 miles from the venue, especially when that game is the semi final of their biggest domestic competition,
these same people are are the ones crowing when they had a 20k crowd v leeds, and very quiet with an 11k crowd(inc freebies) and 3 k away fans the week after against warrington
lets face it this town is quite deprived and even more so during these harsh economic days 2 games in a week is hard for many,so most chose the most attractive fixture this coming saturday.
oh i forgot to add the reason for the massive crowd v leeds -3000 free tickets and the rest 10 quid adults and 1 quid kids.
21 August 2009 at 3:40 am #5893That was the klumps second 20,000+ crowd since moving to our ground 11 years ago. Not very good for such a massive club eh.
Saturday will see The Latics achieve their 25th attendance over 20,000 in just over 4 years.
Not bad for such a poorly supported little club eh.Like I said, the town turned BLUE yonks ago.
21 August 2009 at 11:45 am #5909Wiganers have always been and always will be tight fisted and mean spirited. ” Ad sooner watch it int pub me cos tha can av 10 pahnts fert cost of a match ticket”.
We are no better than the set of scum who watch the worriers.
50% of the population aged 16-65 are either unemployed or on invalidity, so we are a town of scrounging cunts as well.

You’re not wrong.
21 August 2009 at 2:16 pm #5936In all fairness, the ‘fans’ who pick their games wouldn’t have looked at the fixture list and said “wolves at home, not gonna miss that one.”
It’s not a big draw, at home to Wolves.
We’ll more than likely see around 23k on Saturday although alot of them will be just going cos it’s Utd and some will be born and bred wiganers who call themselves Utd fans. The kind of people who make me angry and feel sick!
People who go to the football on a budget (tight bastards) will pick their games and i’m fairly sure none of them would choose Wolves, more along the lines of Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc.
21 August 2009 at 2:21 pm #5938We should also point out that Portsmouth only got 17k on at the weekend against Fulham who sold out their allocation (although it would have been less than 4k).
Now we have many top flight teams within however many miles, Portsmouth is right on the south coast with only Brighton and Southampton around them who are both in League 2 and League 1 respectively.
Bolton got 20k on against Sunderland and they had the whole stand behind the goal (around 7k – 2 tiers). I know there were a few empty seats but if you say there were around 6k there from Sunderland that leaves 14k from Bolton.
Same can be said about Blackburn, not sure what their official crowd was against City but it was announced on MOTD City had sold 7k tickets.
It’s not just us, although out of the teams mentioned we have arguably the worst fanbase.

I know there were a few empty seats but if you say there were around 6k there from Sunderland that leaves 14k from Bolton. The crowd was 22,200, and the visitors end holds approx 5500 so there were just short of 17K Bolton fans.

Thanks for pointing that out.
My point is 17k home fans for a teams 1st home game in the Premier League isn’t good. It’s better than the 12,500 we had but for a Saturday afternoon rather than a Tuesday night game. My point is that teams such as ourselves, Bolton, Blackburn + anybody else who suffers with home crowds are all in the same boat.
I’ve also been told that Sunderland had around/over 6,000 tickets for Bolton game so the away end must hold around that number.
21 August 2009 at 5:47 pm #5987I couldn’t believe the lack of numbers on Tuesday, those that booed the side should be ashamed of themselves as well, but at least they paid their money. As for the pub watchers, just shows us what we’re up against…..£13 a game and still there’s loads will spend 2/3 hours in a pub and watch it rather than get down to the stadium, and people wonder why Whelan gets p****d off. Those of us that make the effort deserve no criticism, as for the rest, they’re an embarrassment
