If this takeover bid comes to fruition whats going to happen to the lodgers? Apparently the posters on the rugby boards are shitting themselves that they may have to rent elsewhere!
I’ll be saying my prayers every night from now on!
Fuck the EFL

They have a log term lease with the stadium company
IF this takeover goes through & IF it involves the purchase of Wigan Athletic Holdings as well as Latics FC then the rugby are still fine & dandy a) They already have a legally binding lease to use the stadium for x amount of years & b) because Wigan Athletic Holdings are just one of the shareholders (albeit the major one) in the stadium company & are unlikely to get the required percentage of shareholders votes to lob them out even if they could do it under the terms of the lease16 October 2017 at 9:02 pm #162612And what if this consortium buy the whole shebang? Remember they are buying a football club!
Fuck the EFL
16 October 2017 at 9:10 pm #162613And if it fails as a club they could always do what Arsenal or Chelsea were trying to do. Knock it down and build luxury penthouse suites overlooking the River Douglas.
Even Whelan can’t sell that one
17 October 2017 at 12:26 am #162621Remove the lodgers, always a good idea to remove a healthy income stream.
17 October 2017 at 1:04 am #162622Personally I have nothing against the rugby, it just isnt on my radar at all. Ref the contract with the rugby, I would be surprised if there isnt a change of ownership clause that allows for arrangements to be cancelled, I see that a lot in commercial contracts that I work with. Typically if one party changes ownership either party can give notice, notice is typically stipulated and the clause is typically timebound from the change.

17 October 2017 at 11:49 am #162624Remove the lodgers, always a good idea to remove a healthy income stream.‘Healthy income stream? Are you seriously saying a consortium probably worth an absolute fortune would be arsed about a piddling minority RL club like Wigan rugby and the pittance in rent they pay?
Having that lot around would be more of an hindrance, just like they have been for years, i would be a tad worried if i was a peanut hugger! :woohoo:
Fuck the EFL
17 October 2017 at 12:22 pm #162625Everyone calls the goons cuckoos and then spout garbage from the planet obsessed.
I hate the goons as much as anyone being a Saints fan; but the chances of them moving out are massively slim.

If you think that Mr Whelan hasn’t already sorted out the long term future of the gypos under a new Latics ownership bullit then give your head a wobble. He is not about to alienate the tics from the good folk of Wigan by killing off the eggs. This is a guy remember who pulled out of buying United coz he believed it would affect sales at JJB by non Utd fans boycotting his stores. The huggers will be a part of any takeover coz its the right and best decision for both clubs.

And with millions on the table do you really think Whelan will be arsed about the rugby if the new consortium insist on them finding somewhere else to play? Do me a favour!

1 – It depends if the buyers actually buy the stadium or agree a deal with Whelan similar to the one in place now. If the £20m figure is correct then I doubt they are buying the club, stadium, training ground, academy and other assets.
2 – Unless our buyers are the dumbest businessmen on the planet then they will want to make as much money as possible. They will make next to f*** all from WAFC unless we get to the PL which is no guarantee and how long do they hang around for if we fail a few times like 1998-2003 for example? The most likely idea is that they will agree a new deal with the goons who will pay more towards the ground than now which covers the losses from an empty white elephant stadium such as ours.
3 – Would DW want to sell the stadium or would he still want his family to have some sort of business (all of the party nights etc) and an hold on the running of the 2 clubs with fixtures etc? Like it or not but he is a Wigan rugby fan.
Nobody will be quicker to laugh at the goons if they get shipped out and end up at Leigh in front of 5000 because tbe rest wont catch tge 2 buses needed to get there, but it just isnt going to happen.

Oh and Eric Pollard is the guy who will have to give the green light to the deal
