The cup for me all day long, it’s what dreams are made of.

Have to agree with GoalsGalore on the way the City fans were on the way back up the M6 a credit to their club, unlike them Arsenal wankstains a year later.

Yeah, after the game i walked into the Bree Louise Pub at Euston and was confronted by a sea of pale blue. I started to turn around to leave, honestly …. I was dragged back in, they stood up, clapped and cheered. I had photos with them. I felt like Ben watson!! I was bought a drink, had hand shakes and all the ‘fair play to you, you played us off the pitch, you never let us get started’, and more.

What oh what a journey!! The parade in Wigan was pretty wonderful as well.

        FA Cup.

…… but as Garswood said, that trophy (the most famous trophy in the world) will always have the words WIGAN ATHLETIC engraved on it and that can never ever be taken away.

        I give you my avatar.

Thank you again, all of you, for such fantastic replies.

I was hoping you’d all come down on that side of the fence, but hearing (reading) your reminiscing of that day is honestly truly brilliant stuff.

I was at Cardiff in 2006 when Steven Gerrard scored the goal of the season (the ACTUAL goal of the bloody season) in injury time to take the Mickeys to extra time and inevitably beat us on pens. I could almost reach out and touch us winning it then. Still hurts now; I feel sick just thinking about it.

It’s a completely different topic in reality, but what you guys say about the Citeh fans and the Gooners doesn’t surprise me in the least. “Wankstains” is being generous for those feral librarians I’d say…whereas Citeh have always had decent supporters who know their stuff and are good as gold whatever the result. Magnanimous in victory, gracious in defeat, isn’t it? We’ve always had a decent rapport with them.

Weirdly fascinating how different clubs’ supporters seem to have their certain ways – though don’t get me started on that one.

Without a doubt, winning the FA Cup.

Just an unbelievable day from start to finish. City fans being patronising on the way down, thinking it was all just a day out for Wigan supporters. Then we did that…amazing. Best wing performance by a player, McManaman, probably since Matthews in 53. Was a great performance all round and great to score in added time.
Was sad to then be relegated, but had been coming for 3 or 4 seasons with player sales weakening us more and more each season. Was inevitable really. We almost bounced straight back up, losing to QPR in the play offs.

As for West Ham, I’ve always liked you as a club. A proper old club with traditions and history. I was gutted when you left the Boleyn, it was a great place. Did you need to move? Or were those owners of yours after a free stadium and a make on the sale of the Boleyn? Staying at a packed Boleyn/Upton Park would’ve been a lot better than what you’ve got now. Those owners sold your clubs soul, there. Its just not West Ham without the Boleyn on Barking Road, The Boleyn Tavern, and the 66 statue. It’s like the old West Ham, the club of the East End, has gone forever. Gutted. Most football fans. Should be. Not a fan of your owners, I have to admit.

“Best wing performance by a player, McManaman, probably since Matthews in 53”

Don’t get me wrong, McManaman had Clichy (I think) tied in ribbons during that game but best wing performance since Matthews??? Not in my opinion
On that day Matthews provided crosses for 2 of the goals & his other crosses more often than not met their target.
In our cup final, McManaman got in to numerous excellent positions & messed it up every single time – watch Kone, time after time going mental at him coz he’s hung on to the ball to try & beat another man or get a shot away when others are far better placed. That day he had pace by the bucket load & was full of tricks but he was proper head down & no awareness of what was going on around him.

I know I’ll get shot down for saying this as I have before on here but watch the game back & tell me one time where he got himself in to a great position & made the right end decision.
            Then you’ll see I’m right!! ;)

I’ve taken the following from the “Wigan Today” site and was written by Paul Kendrick who reports for Latics in the local rag. I also saw this bit of nonsense and was particularly aggravated by Merson’s complete lack of understanding regarding our FA Cup win and what it meant to Wigan fans.

Having the rare luxury of a couple of days off last weekend, I happened to catch a small segment from Sky’s ‘Soccer Saturday’ programme, that I used to remember as being pretty decent telly.

              How things have changed.

With the FA Cup third round taking centre stage, the panel were discussing how important and relevant the famous competition was in this day and age of the Premier League ruling the roost.

“I’ve had a number of tweets from Wigan Athletic fans, telling me they wouldn’t swap their FA Cup win in 2013 for anything,” reported host Jeff Stelling, completely deadpan.

“Their next away game? Crewe,” he added, a smug grin now having well and truly taken over his facial features.

Cue guffawing from the panel of ‘experts’ in the background. I thought Paul Merson was going to wet himself at one point, he was laughing that much. Only Matt Le Tissier seemed to grasp what winning the FA Cup will always mean to a club and a town.

Stelling, who has always prided himself on being a long-suffering Hartlepool fan, should have known better – much better. Openly mocking a standard of football that is above that of his own beloved club and people is poor to say the least.

Indeed, the complete and utter lack of respect shown to Latics, Crewe and lower-league football in general underline exactly what’s wrong with the ‘beautiful’ game at the moment.

Of course since Sky don’t have the rights to the FA Cup the dismissal and mocking of the competition by those involved was no doubt aimed at protecting their own financial self interests.

Stelling showed himself for what he is that day. Hope the non-leagues are treating him well. Bet he would love a cup run.

As for Merson, he’s always been a prick.

Agree. Had a few good games in that latter half of the season, but I stand by my “won’t make a PL player as long as he has a hole in his arse” comment.

Totally agree about Mcmamamamamaumum; I remember Kone getting so frustrated, especially near the end. Actually for me he wasn’t MoM; Roger was.

He did, you are right, but his finishing and final touch just kinda wasn’t as good as his ragged running. WTF it doesn’t matter – why? ‘Cos we won the cup. That is all that matters. Robles wasn’t far of MoM and neither was Boyceeeeee or Scharner or Maloney or Kone.

He’s currently demonstrating that he “wont make a bottom of the championship player as long as he has a hole in his arse”.

Well done Stu for starting a good read.

Another with a hand up for the cup. Grown men bouncing like babies, crying like them too. Unbelievable scenes. I’d say we’re close to 100% on those who’d take the cup win over PL.
The European aways were all part of the win too, Bruges, Maribor and the far reaches of Russia. (Couldn’t get a pass for Kazan unfortunately  )even the home games were great.

Only regret is my lad was too young to see the premier league, however when I said to him at a recent home game about us being promoted this season, he said “why would I want that, we win every week now, its ace”.
Pretty much sums up why the vast majority will take the FA Cup and what joy it brought over most weeks watching sterile, boring defeats in a league who’s greed has engulfed it.

There’s a new name on the cup and that name is Wigan Athletic :silly:

That post had me watch the highlights again!

What a day that was. Nobody could deny we didn’t deserve it, every player was superb. The greatest day in our history, without a doubt. To win the showpiece event in English football, the finest cup in world football, all that history… And become a part of it. Unbelievable.

Was proud as punch when my two young boys got to lift the trophy, which was surprisingly very light. Sadly, they hadn’t been to Wembley, as the extra cost of £200 was too much and they were only young and would’ve been a blooming long day for them. Ultimately though, it was the cost that ruled. Which to this day, and always, will leave a bitter taste in my mouth.(Wembley £10 reduction for concessions on ticket prices being scandalous)

The ticket prices weren’t the only thing that was a rip off either – so were the food & drink.
I can’t remember the exact prices but at the semi-final you got a pint for (this is a guess) £6 (in itself a rip off). For the final you had to pay more for a smaller serving – my head ruled my heart & I didn’t get any
