What like bring a mate for a quid when they have to sit on their own unless you give up your seat for that particular game ! I wouldn’t want to give my prime location seat up and I wouldn’t run the risk of losing friends by making them watch a side in transition ! ;) The club can try every marketing plan under the Sun. I still dont think we will get above 17000 next season.

Have to say I AGREE with that. They play it as being a ‘reward’ for the loyal season ticket holders. How is that then? Most s/t holders will be surrounded by fellow s/t holders, so if you talk a friend or two into taking up the special offers, they can’t sit next to you. It’s a good idea, in theory, but it’s the way the club puts it over, as if it’s a ‘Thank You’ gesture to the s/t holders. No it isn’t. It’s a ploy to sell a few more tickets.
I think they need to ‘re-market’ the South-Stand, especially towards the ‘family’ package, with the family s/t deals, etc.

What I will say is, that I will be more than happy if we can average 15-16,000 HOME fans, this next season. Add most teams bringing 3-4000 away fans, and it will be alright.

Personally, I ‘cannot wait’ to renew. Europe here we come……. :)

When I hear of WAFC marketing ideas the words polish, cant and t u r d spring to mind !! 17000 is a realistic figure for next seasons average gate. In fact I am being slightly generous at that figure !!

17k is a deeply pessemistic figure and far below the clubs targets.

This is a time when the club can look forward with a bit of optimism and try to improve on and off the field.

Has our average gate not dropped every season bar one since getting into the Prem ? Next season will be no exception ! Over the last 3 seasons inc this one the gates have dropped by about 650 a year and so with this season currently averaging 17,882 I am guessing I wont be far off the mark !

It is still dam good over the last 10-15 years.

Jay its a massive leap from 10 years ago. All I am saying is that it is correcting itself now and levelling out due to Prem interest waining ! We havent exactly set the World alight have we ! A lot of the curious fans will slowly drop away unless of course we come out of the blocks flying come next season !

Hopefully more kids will get hooked and bring their mates along to balance things out, the one’s that would have been United or Liverpool 10 years ago.

Unless you compare it to the rest of the Premier League.
Anything other than a year on year rise has to been seen as a disappointment.

Since Latics first Premiership season our average gate has stabalised around the 18k mark, in 2007/8 a couple of fixtures fell on good dates, so we saw an attendance boost. This season every other game has been midweek or switched from it’s original date, while there was huge pre-season turmoil and a recession.

Latics have plenty of room to grow as a club, this is one occassion were I applaud the club for showing some initiative (prompted by fans). Gradual improvement on and off the field will all make a positive difference to attendances.

My prediction for next season is an average gate of 18,650.

                            2007/8 – 19,046

I’m with Fil on this one. I don’t see anything to suggest we should be optimistic that crowds will increase next year.

I hope they do, but I can’t see why they would.

From that I reckon a crowd of 20,286 on Monday would give an average of 18k for the season which isn’t bad given some of the performances

No idea how tickets are going but maybe the club should just do what the rugby do and decide what crowd they are going to announce before the game ;)

I will be but I feel there will be more empty seats next season as the novelty has all but gone now ! Obviously 3 or 4 games will attract the plastics but on the whole I would hazard a guess at an average home gate in the region of 17000 !

Last season there was huge upheval at the club, not to mention the country itself was in a recesion.

On the field Martinez was learning the job, trying to fashion a team from the scraps he’d been left with, while off it we were reactionary rather than proactive. It took until January until we began to look and act like a Premiership club.

Reading what Martinez and Whelan are saying, hearing about whats planned regarding season tickets, marketing etc., we seem to be far better prepared for the coming season.[/quote]

What planet are you on???? the scraps your on about must be Hugo, Charlie, Titus, Kirkland, Figgie, Boyce, Mario the nucleous of our side.

It makes me laugh that when we win it’s Bob’s team and when we loose it’s cause of all the rubbish Steve Bruce left!!!!! Steve Bruce saved us from certain relegation in his first season then but for player sales would have taken us into Europe in his second. When he left we were alot stronger than when he arrived you should remember that.Lets see if Bob can have the same success or next season if he fails miserably will it still be Bruce’s fault?
