That’s right Yokey and also its about having a consistent partnership and style of play. I reckon if any two strikers had started the season in pre season and played games together over a sustained period they would have had to be bad not to have bettered our strikers strike rate. I probably will get shouted down once again but our ideal man would have been Grant Holt but with a player playing off him or behind him. A player with a proven record like him was treated harshly by Uwe. Instead it was Fortune on his own, Riera on his own, McClean on his own all season. Clarke had a little go at partnering Fortune but they were just so similar. Fortune has had a work rate to equal McCleans but he is no goalscorer.
I cant help but wonder why there hasn’t been a prolonged period of a strike partnership like Fortune with McManaman or Maloney or Waghorn or Delort or McKay.
Riera with the same or Holt with the same before his injury.
We have had pace out wide with McClean and surely with a partnership tearing into the box on to some of these crosses maybe we would have got just one or two wins to at least have stayed in the league.28 April 2015 at 11:01 pm #141770That’s right Yokey and also its about having a consistent partnership and style of play. Everyone would much rather have our continental style bullshit that has gained us two relegations.29 April 2015 at 1:41 am #141790That’s what we will all have to get used to again if Gary gets his way.

29 April 2015 at 4:37 pm #141836Mine was a joke by the way! Holt up front on his own next season anyone?I’d be surprised if Grant Holt plays again at any kind of competitive level.
29 April 2015 at 4:41 pm #141837So on the subject of Delort & Riera, who actually sourced these 2 out ?, who picked them out to be our answer to 25-30 goals and put us back in the Prem ? and why oh why, when we couldn’t hit the side of the QE2 with an hot air balloon weren’t they both kept and thrown in ?.
When you can see things failing around you basically try anything and everything in your powers to stem the flow whether it have been Holt , Delort , Reira , Waghorn , Mackay , Cosgrove, Flores , but we stuck with Fortune till the end and look were that got us. Even Sinclair from Liverpool !! Jamie Carragher recently said he’s one of the hottest young prospects since Sterling and lots and good things are been said and he made one appearance. And please don’t give me that shit about not old enough not good enough the championship this year was shite and only 3 clubs looked any good.
With so many players out of contract, players not just good enough who need to be shown the door, and all the loanees heading back it’s going to be a full squad rebuild of a job so don’t be surprised if we fall into a relegation spot. I nearly said another relegation dog fight but we hardly fought this time round.
I didn’t see MK Dons pissin aorund playing this lad in the reserves like we do ;-
30 April 2015 at 1:26 am #141855The problem is the formation, but as 451 seems to be the in thing at the moment anything else just isn’t cool. Suppose we’ll have to wait for Spanish teams to start playing 442 again before it can be taken seriously again. A lone striker needs support from the midfield, and quickly but we just don’t get forward quick enough and the attack breaks down, pretty quickly.
It’s no coincidence that we’ve had flops up front over the last few years. We either need to change the formation or get it through to the midfielders / wing back to get forward more quickly when attacking.
Boyce got forward against Wolves but couldn’t cross the ball into the box as we only had one player in the box.. He checked back and passed the ball backwards in the end!!30 April 2015 at 3:47 am #141864The problem is the formation, but as 451 seems to be the in thing at the moment anything else just isn’t cool. 6 May 2015 at 2:27 pm #142011So what’s the news on these 2 ? I’d like bet that with both Delort & Riera’s it’s all about if their loan clubs Deportivo and Tours can beat the drop.
