Mind you, having 10 men is an advantage according to our Bob ! B)
22 June 2012 at 1:51 am #89529Think the title of the thread is a bit of a red herring Phil. I don’t think winding each other up and giving each other a bit of jip on a field is sending off tactics. That to me is just banter. We have all done it, Doesn’t matter what level it is for that, It happens from Sunday league to Premier league. Sending off tactics are blatant diving etc for me and can’t be condoned. Should be automatic red cards for any type of cheating. Don’t tell that to the ITV commentary team though, They go mad when a p[layer get’s a kick in the box but tries to stay on his feet rather than fall over. Mr. Townsend said last week in a match just after such an incident, “He should be going down there and getting his team a penalty, There was enough contact”
22 June 2012 at 2:13 am #89530I mentioned other tactics ! The point that I am trying to make is why cant teams just play the game and not rely on the opposition being reduced to 10 or even 9 men ? I myself would feel better within myself knowing that a team I had played for had won a game 11 v 11 than I would if the opposition ( Particularly close rivals ) had been reduced to say 10 men !
22 June 2012 at 3:24 am #89531And it’s not “what the media seems to think” , it’s what the media knows – because it happens in most football , rugby and even cricket matches.Yep. St Helens have tried it in the three games we’ve played against them this season with Gareth Hock. It worked in the last game with the 26 man brawl, but they’d lost the game by that point.
Whilst I sometimes think it’s down to desperation in knowing you probably can’t win on an even playing field (if we attempted it at Old Trafford for example), in a knockout all or nothing game I’d say go for it as you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

indeed, and they even have a term for it……….Sledging.
A quick youtube search will pull up some classics.[/quote]
I have had these for years, always make me giggle…
Subject: sledging
When Australia toured New Zealand a few years back and Blair Pocock was opening the batting for the Kiwis. Having played and missed at a couple he was then approached by Mark Waugh from slip. Waugh pointed at Pocock and said “oh yeah, I remember you, you toured Australia a couple of years ago. You were sh!t then too.” Pocock then proceeded to hit the next ball for four and pointed at Waugh and said “oh yeah, I remember you too, you had that f**king ugly old girlfriend……..and then you went and married her you dumb c**t.”
Glenn McGrath (to Otto Brandes, tubby South African no. 11, after a 85mph delivery whistles past OB’s chin): Why are you so fat? OB: Because every time I f**k your wife, she gives me a biscuit.
During Australia’s last tour of South Africa it was rumoured that Daryll Cullinan had been consulting a psychologist to exorcise the demons that appeared whenever Warne removed his hat. No sooner had Cullinan arrived at the crease than Warne snarled: “I’m going to send you straight back to your shrink.”
Ian Healy once became frustrated with an overweight batsman from a South African provincial side who seemed not the least interested in scoring runs. Eventually Healy called to the bowler: “Why don’t we put a Mars bar on a good length to see if we can lure him out of his crease?”
An English county bowler was having surprising success against the great West Indian Viv Richards, who’d played and missed at several balls. Foolishly, the bowler piped up: “Hey Viv, it’s red and it’s round.” A steaming Richards cracked the next ball into another postcode and told the bowler: “You know what it looks like, man – go fetch it.”
Merv Hughes was being Merv, aiming constant abuse at English batsman Robin Smith. But having been told that he “couldn’t bat to save his f**king life,” Smith smashed a four, walked down the pitch and said: “Make a good pair, don’t we? I can’t f**king bat and you can’t f**king bowl.”
Sledging can be plain amusing. It’s unlikely Merv Hughes was thinking tactically when he told a struggling English batsmen: “I’ll bowl you a f**king piano, ya Pommie p**ftah. Let’s see if you can play that.”
During a WSC final at the SCG where the game had been shortened due to rain and the atmosphere was running at about 95% humidity, a very exhausted Arjuna Ranatunga appealed that he had “sprained” something. He duly asked the umpire for a runner. As clear as a bell through the effects mic you heard Healey’s legendary reply “you don’t get a runner for being an overweight, unfit, fat c**t”.

Also, personally in England’s first game at these Euro’s against France, James Milner should have got himself clobbered by the French keeper in the first half & got us a penalty. Its not cheating or gamesmanship but England had used their skill & movement to create a chance & Milner should have drawn the foul (in itself a skill) rather than leaving himself with a chance that was always going to be harder to score then miss22 June 2012 at 1:43 pm #89535Think the title of the thread is a bit of a red herring Phil. 24 June 2012 at 1:58 pm #89590Ballotelli needs nobody to help him get sent off he is a head-the-ball and is more than capable of getting the job done unaided.Mind you it may help if Barry whispers in his ear “Mario you are gonna be loaned out to Accrington Stanley so we can bring in a real striker”

Eh? Fouls are supposed to be an unexpected occurrence which leads to the referee making a decision. Suggesting that Milner should have deliberately gone through the goalkeeper, using the excuse that England had a good build up, and then applauding the “drawing of a foul” as a skill makes you a complete hypocrite and an ambassador for cheating before an event has taken place. People like you are the scourge of football but hey, you are in a majority.

What a load of rubbish.
For a start I didn’t say that Milner should have deliberately gone through the keeper. Secondly, there doesn’t have to be any contact for a foul to be given it just needs a reckless challenge. If a player goes steaming into a challenge & gets neither man or ball but the other player has to jump out of the way, loses his balance/falls over/loses possession of the ball then a foul can be given. In this instance, the keepers challenge got nowhere near the ball, forced Milner out too wide & the chance was gone. If he’s stayed on the ground (as he should be allowed to do by the opponent) then contact would have been made & it would have been a stonewall penalty – it’s not cheating & the game is full (& always has been) of players deliberately drawing fouls/obstruction etc.. & there’s nowt wrong with it.
It’s a million miles away from going over when there’s no contact, already going down prior to contact (the first offence in that situation is the dive) & dropping like a sack of spuds at minimal contact
A foul is supposed to be an unexpected occurrence?? Stick to whatever else it is you don on Saturday’s now you don’t watch football.
I hope you’re as condemning about a player who deliberately commits a foul to stop an opponents in their track coz that happens all the time & if you don’t it makes you a hypocrite & an embassador for cheating26 June 2012 at 2:44 pm #89669Don’t you think it ironic how Ashley Young is good at getting pens but sh*t at taking them !! :cheer:
26 June 2012 at 7:43 pm #89671Ashley Young should not even have been on the pitch to miss his penalty, he had an absolute nightmare of a tournament.
26 June 2012 at 11:39 pm #89674why did we have a left back taking a penalty before a 35 million pound striker ?
