been a season ticket holder now for 11 years so i think im allowed this opinion. After 6 years in the premier league i think the club just doesnt have the same feel about it. Disregarding the whole reaction to saturday ive felt this for a while. The rotation of players is awful, its like a revolving door each season. Half the shirts i saw on saturday had players names on that no longer play for us or players that are constantly linked with moves away from the club. I think only two players (kirkland and boycey) correct me if im wrong, have played over 100 games for us. The atmosphere at games is dire at times because of poor attendances. Away support is terrible and has been for a while. The whole charles nzogbia thing makes me sick, hes contracted to play football for the club and is fully fit but because he wants a move away from the club its decided he wont play. If i walked into work tomorrow and said i dont want to work there anymore id be sacked.
The games lost touch with the real fans and instead stadiums are becoming empty or full of jumped up idiots like at man utd who arent even from this country. Maybe the reason we have low crowds is because our supporters come mainly from a working class background and are making judgements on how to spend what little disposable income they now have, £250 on a season ticket to see little charlie throw his dummy out at the dw stadium with his pals in theyre flash bmw’s, or this years car insurance. football needs to get a grip.
I am sure he will because he sounds like a proper fan who cares about his team, not like some who bailed out and turned their backs on the team eh ! :)

Even the Blackpool fans left at 4-0 Griff

I stayed to the bitter end to clap the team off, as always.
Only this time, I clapped Blackpool off.
Blackpool deserved it Griff and fair play to them. what I want to see from are team on Saturday is the wounded animal syndrome? or perhaps some of the mercenaries at are beloved club might call it the shop window syndrome :o
Maybe Whelan needs to stop sacking managers and let someone build a legacy at the club, then you will see a more stable club. But imagine if Wigan hadnt been in the premiership, the atmosphere and lack of fans would still have existed but in a sh*tty league.
As for the away support, the cost of games is prohibiting for most, this wouldnt change in the championship.

Barrow – sacked in 1995
Deehan – left in 1998
Mathias – sacked in 1999
Benson – Moved upstairs in 2000
Rioch – sacked in 2001
Bruce – left in 2001
Jewell – left in 2007
Hutchings – sacked in 2007
Bruce – left in 2009
Bobby – still here the last time I checked
So he’s sacked 4 managers in 15 years & only 1 in the last 9 (& I don’t think you’ll get many who in hindsight disagree with that) – I don’t think he can be criticised on the sacking managers score
It isn’t the same club that’s why. Totally different funding system. Totally dependent upon overseas TV viewers. The money raised from local support is tiny compared to the TV money. The more overseas players the more overseas interest.

You make some very valid points and observations.
I’ve had a season ticket for 25 years and I’m so disenchanted with everything. Not just the manager, and his naivety. Not just the players, and their god awful performance last weekend. I’m just cheesed off with everything about football at the moment.
The players are so far-removed from their fanbase, it is frightening. I said this on Saturday. That day when we got promoted, myself and many others, actually joined in the players celebrations in Walkabout. You felt close to the team. Not now.
Other people have touched on it as well, but there just seems to be no sense of ‘togetherness’ between players and fans. I can understand that at United, Liverpool, etc, with their massive fanbases, and all that. But at ‘little’ Wigan Athletic, and we ARE still a little club, it is just out of place. It seems wrong, as the club was built on a ‘family’ atmosphere and the fans being close to the players, with a ‘pat on the back’ mentality. For me, that is what’s wrong with this club at the moment.
Too many players have come in with ego’s that are bigger than their on pitch capabilities. Well, to be honest, I’ve had enough. I’d sooner us be in the lower leagues, with a bunch of honest pro’s who you feel some apathy with, rather than a bunch of mercenaries just looking for their next move.
Charles N’Zogbia should NEVER wear our shirt again. If he appears on the field against Chelsea, I will walk out. I implore anybody else to do the same, on principle. He has shown his contempt for the club and his manager, but more so his team-mates, and it will be a disgrace if he ever features again.
I’m not going to slag our manager off on here, but I will say that if I was in charge, he’d be gone by now. No use waiting for a few more games, as we may well be rooted to the bottom by then. A la Sunderland and Derby.
I have given my season ticket to someone else for the day as I will be be rockin in the free World deep in the woods at Fell Foot Wood Newby Bridge !( Wood Vibrations music festival ) Once over I would have chosen football over anything else especially a Chelsea game, not anymore ! If I went to a gig and the band was so bad it was untrue I would more than likely leave before the end ! ;)
I am sure he will because he sounds like a proper fan who cares about his team, not like some who bailed out and turned their backs on the team eh ! :)
Who has bailed out and turned their backs on the team? What is a “proper fan” and is it worthwhile being categorized as just that if it makes you feel better? Does the football world care about those “proper fans”?
A proper fan who likes to pay and support his team or a fan who likes football unlike you who has turned his back not only on WAFC but on football in general ! I do read your posts ya know ! Seeing as you deplore the way football has gone that much then may I ask as to why you are lurking around a ” Football ” forum ? Might I suggest you try the rugby !
