Boss assesses task ahead with visit of Paul Dickov’s Doncaster Rovers on Sunday.
Caldwell analyses Yorkshire outfit.
Praise for Jordan Flores.
Shaq Coulthirst a player full of desire according to his new manager.
Caldwell on last week’s games…We’re looking forward to another game; I think the signs were there last week of players gelling in different units within the team with different combinations getting better.
We’re still very disappointed at losing the games and we had control of the Bury game at 1-0 and we didn’t capitalise on that so we’re still bitterly disappointed and eager to get a win for the fans and our season up and running.
Caldwell on Doncaster…
I was at their game with Leeds and they had to play against ten men for a long period and it went to extra-time so it’s going to be difficult for them, recovery-wise, and we have to make sure it’s a physical game, played at the high-tempo that we’re trying to and sustain that for 90 minutes.
Doncaster are a good side; I think we’re finding out quickly that there are a lot of good sides in this league, they try and play and they have a big threat at the top end of the pitch in Williams – he’s quick, he runs the channels and he’s mobile – I played with James Coppinger at Newcastle United a long time ago and he is a quality footballer and can cause you problems.
We’ll have to be ready, we’ll have to be at our best and I’m sure, if we play how we know we can, then we’ll be good enough to win the game.
Caldwell gives squad and injury update…
Sunday is probably the first time since I’ve been the manager where I’ve got a big enough squad of fully fit players where I’m going to have to let one or two down but that makes the bench stronger and the squad as a whole stronger.
So, from that point of view, it’s nice to make decisions rather than the team picking itself – I have to get those calls that I make right, so it’s a good problem to have.
Don Cowie has been over to Sweden for an operation on his calf and hopefully once he’s back in training he can put his injuries behind him and help the squad.
Emyr Huws and Tim Chow are back out on the field training so the squad gets bigger and that’s a good thing.
Caldwell on Jordan Flores and young players…
I thought Jordan was outstanding on Tuesday; late on, had we had a midfielder on the bench, he would have come off because he was tired but he showed a lot of desire and commitment to hang in the game when he was physically tiring.
It’s good to know we’ve got young players coming through; Jenno [Ryan Jennings] as well showed no fear and tried to get on the ball and make things happen.
I’ve no problem putting these guys in the team, they’ve earned the right to train with us and try and get in the team and it’s up to them to make it a regular thing.
Caldwell on new addition Shaquile Coulthirst…
He came up here last week; he’s somebody I watched last season when I was taking in games, I saw him play for Tottenham’s development squad at Old Trafford against Manchester United and he really impressed me on the night.
He’s quick, strong and has league experience; he’s scored goals at different clubs in League One and Two and I think when I see a player who has been to multiple clubs to get first team football, that shows me a boy who has desire to play and we’re going to give him the opportunity to do that here.
15 August 2015 at 10:17 pm #144039If we win 5 – 0 against Donc we go seventh, and maybe if we win 7 -0 we go fifth.
Not liking where we are right now tho’
16 August 2015 at 1:47 am #144048Is there any reason for the early kickoff tomorrow.
16 August 2015 at 1:37 pm #144049GC has asked for it to give players extra couple hours recovery time before next game. This is not a joke.
16 August 2015 at 3:10 pm #144051Gary Caldwell cost us the game on Tuesday by replacing Grigg with Fortune oh sorry Bowton Reject!
16 August 2015 at 7:23 pm #144052Shite again. Hardly any goal threat, dodgy defence, hesistant keeper, 33-1 odds on relegation looks a great price.

Can I explain how this betting malarkey works Fil?
The bookies odds are based on 46 games, not 2, you also never see skint bookies, so yes they do have fekin clue.
Let’s reserve any serious judgement for when the season is in full swing and GC knows his best starting 11.
Today’s match saw more partnerships building, there was some great link up play in all parts of the pitch. Chances were created, but it just isn’t happening yet. Once GC stops this suicidal at times, short ball from the keeper and gets it punted up field,we will start to win games I’m sure. It’s better to be challenging for seconds in the opposition half of the field, than being closed down in our own third.
Today I was impressed with Jacobs[again], James [best game so far], Kenny, Junior, Power, Perkins and Grigg. The negatives were O’Donnell [when is he going to come off his line to collect a corner / cross], Morgan and Barnett.Far too early to right um off and far to early to think they will challenge for promotion.
From Matlock to ManU

You said something similar last season to me and I picked up a cool £450 ! Kerching!!We know you loved Bobby and his footballing ethos but it won’t work in League One! If you think 2-1 is a fair price for promotion then you my friend are more deluded than I thought!
16 August 2015 at 7:56 pm #144059If it wasn’t for O’Donnells 3 first half saves we would have lost …..just sayin’.
It will take a few more games but I’m quite optimistic we will be much better in a few weeks.

Whatever happened last season has gone, its all about this year. So lets get this right, you firmly believe we are not good enough for promotion from watching two league games and a cup game? You probably didn’t go to coventry so its just the one league game.
I doff my cap off to you Fil, oh mighty fortune teller. how much are you in profit over the past 3-4 seasons?

£450 up as I only did the one bet when I could see which direction we were heading! Too early to tell if the slide will continue but the early signs are not too good!
17 August 2015 at 1:49 am #144081A good point today against a decent Donny side that ,like us ,will probably finish top 6.
After such a massive turn over of players it’s amazing that after just 2 league games we’re already seeing signs of the quality to come. It’s also a bonus that after some of the crap we had to endure under Malky at least now we’re trying to play it the right way.
Cut out the kamikaze passing in defence and the future’s bright.
Sorry if my positivity upsets some of you. #ktf

Nearly fell off chair what a positive post well done
17 August 2015 at 2:18 am #144084Would love to feel the same but to suggest that zero goals against teams that finished well in the bottom half last year is a good sign is surely deluded. It’s not simply kamikaze defending that worries me. It’s the fact in the last 3 games I’ve watched us we appear to have such a limited goal threat. The keeper is a worry to me and looks a poorer standard than what we have seen for years. He appears to have little presence in the area, stays on his line, punches rather than catches and looks uncomforatble with the ball at his feet. The saves mentioned were caused initially by him staying on his line too long and flapping at a high ball.
It’s amazing to see the sign of the quality to come? I think I must be watching a different team. Can only hope I feel the same soon!
