Mr Whelan when you took over our great club you said you dream about the day you will see wigan play in the premier league,so whats changed ? i to dreamt along with every latics fan to see them play in the top division, play in a cup final, win the F.A cup,get in to europe but never thought i would see any of this in my life time.
Now when i have dreams and they come true i.e latics in the prem i want that dream to carry on not turn sour,if we are going to go down lets go down with some fight and dignity.I havent got millions in the bank Mr Whelan but what little money i have i refuse here and now to hand it over to watch what i have seen today

Yet you expect him to keep throwing his millions at it when you can’t be arsed throwing less than £20 a fortnight at it?

I wouldn’t blame if he didn’t put another penny in, but he will.

Daft thing is, I’ve just watched the game on Football First and I have to say I’ve seen us play an awful lot worse.

Griff, the one thing about all this i dont understand is we all know Mr Whelan loves good press and being seen as mr Wigan yet even you must find it strange that he has let things just plod on getting gradually worse under Bob.I will back Mr Whelan to the hilt for what he has achieved and will never call the man.His dream and miracle have been destroyed because he has stayed loyal to a poor manager which after the treatment Ray Mathias recieved i really am uncomfortable with.If you can help me understand and as i have said before we know finances are the problem but why was he so ruthless with previous managers yet if Bobby shot Mr Whelans dog i reckon his job would be safe.

Totally agree there Nuneaton. I was gobsmacked when Ray Mathias was sacked after we came so close to promotion that year. Mathias was given a 1 year directive to get us promoted and he failed so Whelan sacked him. Martinez has a 3 year plan to…errmm….to…I can’t think what his objective was…he just had a 3 year contract…??? Can anyone remember what he was asked to do. If it was to keep us up he’s going to fail so bye-bye Bobby at the end of this season. Unfortunately for all you keen Latics fans it’s going to be too late.

That’s the point – you don’t know what his remit was.

I can’t remember what he was asked to do because Mr Whelan didn’t copy me in on the email.

I suspect a lot of it was to get a youth development programme in place and to cut expenditure – thus helping secure the club’s future. If it was merely to keep the club in the Premier League, the he’s hit all his targets for two years in a row, but may fail on one of them this time around.

Oh well, there you go…one of the most successful managers we’ve had. In that case it makes you wonder where all the Bobby-Hate posts have come from. I gave up at the end of his first season in charge but when the fruits of his youth development program start to make an impression in the first team I might start to come along again. Unfortunately we’ll probably be Div 1 by then and (fortunately) we’ll have a different manager.

          Great Guy, Cr*p Manager.

He’s been in charge two years. Do you expect a squad full of lads who’ve come through the ranks already?

Who has said he’s one of the most successful managers ever, apart from you?

          Just being realistic.

Standish, you stand Bobbys corner really well and fair play to you marrer but dont you get a little embarrassed with some of his aftermatch comments? Its sad he hasnt made it but surely its time now when you think we have sacked better managers.I can only put so much blame on his useless coaches Bob too is culpable and im sorry i feel like this :(

To be honest, I was just being sarcastic there. I personally think he’s the worst manager we’ve ever had. His idea of playing football is the most boring I’ve ever witnessed in 40 years of watching the Latics. We’ll never score enough goals, hence win enough games under the martinez passy-passy football. There’s more to the game than trying to keep possession of the football. Unfortunately Martinez seems unaware of that. If you’re proud to clap every pass across the back four that doesn’t fall to the opposition. Or free kicks in the opponents half, 30 yards from goal that are passed back to the furthest back Wigan player then he must be your dream manager.
Personally I think the lessons learned from Sunderland and QPR should have rung a loud bell at Whelan Towers but unfortunately Uncle Dave has gone deaf.

since when did dave whealan become a registered charity. unlike alot of these so called darksiders i would much rather have a sustainable club no matter wat league we are in maybe if we filled our ground ” ex season ticket holders” their maybe some light at the end of his investment. however their isnt so by picking martinez as his manager he has halved his wage bill instaled a structure to develop young players.and given us a club to support for the next decade. or you can all take the easy option and start supportin united again

Whelan has been in charge for what, 15/16 years now? It’s entirely possible he has mellowed and changed his outlook on life and football. Only those who are/were privy to the objectives that Bob has been set will know whether Whelan’s wishes are being carried out. Given Whelan’s normal reluctance to keep quiet, you have to assume he is happy.

Or maybe with the Villa situation where Bob pledged his allegiance, Dave might feel embarrassed or at least uncomfortable with the idea he’d have to go back on all the things he said after Bob pledged his allegiance. Maybe a bit too proud to admit that the man he has backed is probably not the answer after all.

                Just a thought like.

I have said on many occasions, i dont mind which league we are in,but what i do mind is watching a team with no heart,no passion and to be honest the discipline of our team is absolute garbage, even the manager doesnt show any passion, get rid and bring someone in who wil bring some fight to the squad, at least then we will go down with pride.

i do agree with you on the discipline front. i think we are naive all over the pitch. he may not show passion on the touch line. but he must show some sort of passion in the changing room otherwise we wouldnt perform better int second half. i think the main problem is that we arent good enough
