The fact that it is all over the sport bereft BBC says it all doesnt it? The only thing i have watched so far is that tin pot football tournament-the worst game of football i have EVER seen TEAM GB on thursday.I also saw two blokes dive off some boards today that reminded me of the old Wigan baths ones.
That said at least it gives some facilities and brings some money in to our floundering economy. It may also encourage some unfit kids to have a go at sport. My main gripe is the fact that professionals are allowed to take part i always thought it was meant to be for amateurs.

Only two and a half weeks to the Chelsea game and it cant come soon enough.

        Disagree completely.

I’m watching the (day before’s) highlights every night with my five year old son who’s never watched swimming, hockey, archery, rowing etc before and he’s loving it.

It’s sport diversity that people like me wouldn’t usually watch.

Don’t watch it if you don’t want to. But as you two strike me as the types that can’t make their own entertainment without watching TV, given the blanket coverage it’s being given you are fairly well screwed, I guess ;)

        “tin pot football tournament”

There are other teams playing besides GB (although you wouldn’t know it from the TV coverage).

Sunday’s game between New Zealand and Egypt was brilliant. Both teams going all out to score. End to end stuff. The crowd (about 50,000 for that one) were roaring on both teams, as to be honest no-one really cared that much one way or the other who won. Great stuff. The best 1-1 draw I have ever seen – genuinely.

And yet the Daily Mail reporting on the second game (Brazil v Belarus), which was entertaining too, said it was preceded by “a drab 1-1 draw”. Just proves the journalists really don’t go to the games they report on.

I have to agree GL – the New Zealand game was great for the neutral ….excellent game, and like you said end-to-end stuff. I was also pleased to see Belarus take the lead against Brazil (the so called nailed on favourites) although stylish in play it did show their weakness when caught on the break and had them worried for a while.

Not all sports float my boat but to see the technical ability of the competitors is sublime – now that is dedication to the cause.

Surely if nothing else the Olympics should have something for everyone.

Personally I was gripped by the cycling at the weekend , have watched bits of the footy ( men AND women ) and the boxing will just get better and better as it progresses.

Of course if you don’t like sport ….

When the games were in Athens eight years ago my then six year old son was just the same. Absolutely loved it and became a complete sports nut.

Tonight I’m taking him to see beach volleyball. Can’t wait.

The Olympics are fantastic, yet some folk will whinge about anything.

Our glorified, overpaid, egotistical, male role models (not)… Terry, Ferdinand, Giggs etc. could well do with taking a look at the women – excellent 1-0 win over Brazil at Wembley last night – part-timers to boot!

England FC (golden era – Becks, Owen, etc.) – perennial under-achievers who still have learnt how to pass the ball, keep possession ..(worst yet last month in the Euros).

Off to Coventry to watch the women, Friday…

I thought the GB game on Thursday was pretty boring but I’ll still be treasuring my Olympic ticket stub as its the only event I’ll see in my lifetime.
