Not sure about mining apprenticeships but when I was taken on as an apprentice in 1977 in the machine tool industry, my father had to be present to sign one half of my indeture papers. One half was given to me the other half was held by the company. On satisfactory completion of said apprenticeship (5 years)the Company half was returned signed sealed and delivered. Equally in my fathers time 1937 (ish) the papers were torn in half ..on completion the half of the company was returned to the individual. SO…if mining was different and you were allowed to really sign up as an apprentice in a much differnt dangerous environment, without parental agreement ..perhaps it was a shocking place to work?

I’ll say one thing, we don’t half have some old twats on the board now ;)I’m not old, but I still hold a grudge for that Tory Twat stopping my school milk at playtime when I was six.
I only hope they make it a public holiday, or rather a ‘day of mourning’ (BBQ and piss up) on the day of the funeral. Good weather could see street parties galore. ••
••especially in areas such as Mexborough, Denaby Main, Sheffield, etc.
11 April 2013 at 2:58 am #108705No matter what you think of her, I don’t think booing or jeering during any attempted silence is the way to go. I agree with the comment about turning your back personally.
We are representing Wigan Athletic and the town of Wigan on Saturday and any such behaviour would paint both of those in a bad light and detract from anything that happens on the pitch which is what we should all be proud of.
11 April 2013 at 3:17 am #108712I don’t think it would reflect badly on Wigan, just Latics. Despite the best efforts of some, this is still a democracy where we have the right to express out views in public (with obvious exceptions). If you want to boo, whistle or observe the minute’s silence, go for it.

Can you see 31,000 Millwall fans observing it peacefully? Because I can’t.
I might take a leaf out of Churchill’s book and give her the good old V sign with one hand, a carton of milk in the other.
Leta have it right, most folk on here probably detested her in life, so why change now she’s died? What about her football related politics….the membership card scheme her and her puppet, Colin Moynihan, tried to bring in? And the way she handled Hillsborough was a disgrace.

If Millwall fans want to boo then let them.
I personally will probably send a few last minute texts as opposed to actually observing the silence, but I certainly won’t boo.
11 April 2013 at 5:21 am #108730If he doesn’t get his wish at Wembley will he have a mins silence at our place before the Spurs game? :( :( :(
