Said the same to my mate yesterday ,age is getting the better of him.Flagging a little in the second half however he put a shift in yesterday and will give 100% whenever he puts the shirt on.As you say a true legend.

To be fair he was playing against the best left sided attacking combo in the prem at the moment. Stam too lightweight for me had his chances

Ronnie Stan is probably best crosser of a ball in prem, and would suite the system perfect.

He was and did ok,but he was flagging later in 2nd half RYO could have been on just to quell the runs from Bainsey.

I’m afraid I must say I agree with the original poster.

Boyce has been a great servant to us, over the past 7 seasons. However, he showed yesterday that up against tough left-sided opponents attacking his right-back spot, he is past his best. I hate to think how he will fair against the likes of Gareth Bale. Baines and Piennar led him a merry dance yesterday. I was shocked that he was, at one point, our furthest player forward, whilst the ball was up towards our penalty area. He looked knackered.

Is Ronnie Stam the answer though? I like him as a midfield type player, but he’s prone to getting caught out of position in the right back spot.

Reminded me a bit of Arri De Zeeuw and Jason De Vos in their last season together. Great servants of the club, but at the end had the speed of a carthorse and the turning cirle of the QEII. Boycie has done us proud, and great respect to him. But he was rather shown up yesterday.

But… if Ronnie Stam is the answer, then it’s a pretty daft question.

GL I’m reading that as you are saying that you aren’t a fan of Stam. Or am I reading it wrong?

I was surprised by how ‘out of puff’ Boyce seemed yesterday, I have to say.

Totally agree, Boyce was made to look his age in this match. But Bainsey is quality & 6 yrs younger. With all the effort Boyce gives he can still do a right back job but not a wing back roll. Hope Bob realises this, it would be criminal if Boyce is remembered for the wrong reasons.

A little bit of an opportunity to use an old joke actually, Appley.

However – I don’t think Ronnie Stam is the answer. Although I’ve nothing against him, I just don’t think he is the answer. I’d like to see Miyaichi in the team, and maybe with a shuffle we could have him in instead of Boyce – but exactly how that could be done I’ll leave to Roberto and the experts on this forum ;)

I think you are all being over critical of Boyce. With Kone mainly employed on the right side and clearly making himself available for a quick break, it meant that Boyce was left to defend the right flank without the support that would be normal in our 3-4-3 set up. Last year Moses (when he played on the right) would track back and provide extra support. That did not happen on staurday and Boyce had to contend with Baines and Pienaar who gave him a tough time. Any other right back would have done the same.

Boyce is head ove heals better than Stam, both in defending and in crossing – you have short memories.

It was also not long ago when someone pubished the sprint times of players in the PL (this season) and Boyce was in 2nd place.

hardly slow – he was knackered because he had so much to cope with.

To be fair though, he is looking more and more knackered earlier and earlier in matches these days. A bit of competition for him wouldn’t go a miss, but it eappears that Stam isn’t really in favour. Not sure Ryo is am alternative, given the shape in which the team sets up.

It wont have been lost on other teams that Boycie is running out of staem

Expect him to be put under extra pressure in future matches

i said the same as most of you on saturday but then realised that Boyce does more running than Figs might do on the oposite side,Figs is also covered by Jean B whereas Boyce is basically on his own, ie Baines and Pinnar time and time again running at him, hes 33 and prob in his last top flight season but he still puts a shift in, its just getting harder without any help.
