Jason Scotland, Jason Koumas, Scott Sinclair and Jordi Gomez have had enough chances now for Martinez to see that they are simply not good enough.

All four were pathetic tonight, and should never wear a Wigan Athletic shirt again.

FFS sake we were up against a fourth division side tonight, and couldn’t score, it was laughable.

I thought that in the first half Sinclair did alright and looked to be getting some headway down the flank but in the second half we just never gave him the ball. He certainly worked a lot harder than he has recently.

Koumas on the other hand, had the ‘pleasure’ of sitting behind the dugout for a change tonight and he wasn’t interested in sitting in the dugout and just trotted down the tunnel after Jonesy had a word in his ear. Whoever was sat behind me certainly wasn’t Jason’s biggest fan. Saying that, he has had more chances than anyone to make his mark but he’s clearly happy to sit and take the wage, turning down Cardiff again says as much.

Gomez and Scotland just can’t cut it at this level. One can’t finish and needs to leave the club for his own state of mind (why did we turn Barnsley’s bid down?) and the other makes half-arsed tackles, slows the game to a standstill and then passes it back to the back 4 to ‘build’ again. I don’t think Scharner should go without criticism either, he’s been a joke the last few weeks. Surely his ego has took a battering at still being with us.

There’s plenty of room for constructive criticism!

One thing I forgot to add was how totally one-dimensional we are, in that it’s always pass-pass-pass with hardly any mix up in play. At times we should just play the percentages, shove Charlie and who ever is on the other side a bit higher up the pitch and put a few balls in the corners, get their fullbacks turning. We seem to play everything in front of our opposition and get behind them very little. Bobby is just showing extreme naivety or stupidity at the moment and I’m not sure which way to go on that.

Scotland must be the worst centre forward in the PL. i don’t think he would get into the starting eleven of any other team.

Martinez says its a confidence thing, I disagree, its an ability thing, he has none.

His movement off the ball is non existent, his skill level when on the ball is clumsy at best, his finishing is pathetic and to top it all he is as slow as a cart horse. All the qualities of a top Pl centre forward eh?

On more than one occasion tonight when off the ball, he actually ran towards the defender instead of into space.

One good thing to come from tonights game if nothing else is, it must have boosted the confidence of the two new players watching him as they will have realised that they will have no problem getting a game on saturday.

Exactly. I’ve argued and argued that one goal will do him and he’ll score for fun but you can see it just won’t happen.

I discussed the Scotland situation just after his miss
Its correct that he’s not upto premiership level and he shouldnt be in the team. And he won’t be after last night with the new recruits

But Scotland has scored constantly for the past two years. Was it 21 goals last year, 20ish anyway. Last night was not a premier league game and Notts county opposition was his level, even he’s above that level its been proven. So how he missed the chance. I can’t put my finger on it. His confidence is rock bottom. All strikers no matter who they are up against should be putting away one on one chances
And last year he would have been burying them

I actually feel for the lad

And still he doesn’t go hiding, I’ll say that for him.

Heskey would have gone off injured, in tears or both by now ;)
