      B) Looking around the Euro leagues at potential opponents, as it stands the following are Europa League possibles.

      SPAIN- Real Sociedad, Malaga, Valencia.

ITALY- Fiorentina, Lazio, Inter Milan, Roma. (dont fancy Rome, Milan yes)

FRANCE- St Etienne, Lyon, Lille (easy on Eurostar)

GERMANY- Schalke 04, Freiburg, Eintracht Frankfurt

HOLLAND- PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, FC Twente, Utrecht (easy via Amsterdam)

We will more than likely get some Eastern European club. Prague would be good, Krakow would be great. Budapest would be interesting. Probably get Inverness CT or an Irish club, though.

Krakow unlikely, as both clubs out of reckoning.

Lech Poznan, Slask Wroclaw, Gornik Zabrze are Polish possibles.

Always liked the idea of playing Glentoran ( Belfast ); since it’s a virtual replica of Springfield Park !

Wigan into Europe is now official…(well 99.999%)

Without revisiting the rules…think we go into the qualifying round before the group phase?

Inverness Cally, Glentoran or Shamrock Rovers

Anyone been to Albania…Tirana or summat

Don’t expect to be going anywhere nice for your hols :woohoo:

Very poor country, Albania, but getting more popular with tourists in the capital, Tirana. Some interesting places in eastern Europe such as Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, etc. Decent beer and food, decent prices. Base yourself im capital city area and you will have a great time. I’ve been Czech and Poland, fancy Budapest in Hungary or Kiev in Ukraine. Or indeed Vienna, Austria. Bratislava in Slovakia supposed to be good. Belgrade in Serbia could be a bit, shall we say ‘tasty’. Turkey doesn’t appeal, either. And Russia costs a mint to get to.

As runners up of the fa cup, would we go into the play off round or the third qualifying round? Im hearing mixed reports? Want to get it booked off work asap!

            I think we’ll win it anyway ;)

If we win it we go straight to the Group stage. If we qualify as runners-up we go in at the same stage that the 5th place would, ie the play-off stage – one game before the group stage. swansea will enter at the 3rd Qualifying Round.

Have heard the dates for the 3rd qualifying round are 1st August (first leg) and 8th August (2nd leg), with the draw taking place on the 19th July.

I’m assuming it’s pot luck whether you’re home or away for the first leg though, right?

Edit: just seen the post above this…so the play off is after the 3rd qualifying round? I.e. runners up of the FA Cup are given preference over the winners of the League Cup, even though we’ll finish lower than Swansea in the league?

If we lose to City we are (as Garswood rightly pointed out) in the play off, the draw for which is on 8th August and games to be played 22nd and 29th. Have a look on wikepedia it gives a good run down of who enters when.

We will win the Cup though and get straight into the Group Stage.

TBH I’m a bit confused now – as Stoke went in at 3Q stage, so maybe Swansea will move up a notch if we are below them in the PL. Let’s just see what happens hey?
