Said it before and I’ll say it again. I’ll take Relegation and European football any day of the week. Watching the Latics in Europe would be the absolute pinnacle for me. We have done 8 years in the top league, beat every single one of em, struggled like buggery most years and most of us know it ain’t ever gonna get any better. This is perhaps the one and only chance in our history that we have a chance of winning something. If that means we drop down a division so be it! The clubs on a good financial footing to go back up any road.

European football would impose an enormous burden on Wigan.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City can all field different teams in midweek games. Even with their relatively large squad, Newcastle are struggling in the league this season, just as Stoke and Fulham struggled before them.

Wigan simply do not have the resources to compete in both the Premier League and the Europa Cup. It’s not something that I would welcome

          dear me

you obviously haven’t stood on Springfield park and witnessed drubbings by teams like Gillingham to fully understand the magnitude of What a European qualification would mean have you?
From all accounts many fans have been celebrating harder this weekend than at any time in recent memory. To be one win away from European football for a club like Wigan is unbelievable not to mention the appearance in the final.

And if by the grace of god we did qualify we go straight into the group stages. There like mini leagues with some playing 10-12 games.

Looks like some of my luxury gadgets will be winging there way to eBay.

Wigan were one win away from European football as long ago as 2006.

The prospect of tramping round the lesser known outposts of European football on a Thursday night still leaves me cold. It makes a trip to Gillingham seem quite appealing.

That doesn’t mean that I’m not looking forward to the semi-final, even if we have to travel all the way to Wembley just to play our near neighbours. My plans were already in place.

Not in years have i read such twaddle on his forum and believe me that`s some achievement with some of the whoppers on here. A burden for who exactly ?? The chairman who has dreamt about this for years and ploughed out all the money he has ? The manager who loves his club and is probably the proudest man ever to manage us in my lifetime ? The supporters who have been there through every miserable, horrible, gut wrenching moments that football has to offer, those fans who chipped in to save the club, those fans who helped pay players wages, those fans who always fought to save the club, those fans who have gone home and away almost every week and those who go as much as they possibly can ? I`m sure the legends of the club like Jackson, Sudworth, Horrocks the list goes on would be spinning in their graves if they heard such nonsense, they would be looking down on us with pride, pure pride seeing their beloved WAFC play a European tie. Don`t you dare ever label a European qualification a burden on anyone. If it`s aimed at being a burden on the players then I`m sorry but if we did qualify then those players should have the same pride as the afformentioned supporters would have just by playing for a WAFC team in Europe. I couldn`t care a toss if we never won a game, being there is something beyond my wildest dreams

Wigan’s progress up the leagues under Dave Whelan has been steady and sustainable. The one thing fans of this era have not suffered is relegation.

The Premier League is hard enough without the complications of European games. Why would you risk throwing Premier League status away for the questionable delight of travelling to play Hap Kiryat Shmona or Neftchi on a Thursday night?

Never mind dreaming of the FA Cup Final and European football next season, Wigan face ten cup finals this season to keep their Premier League status.

                Dont see the problem myself.

We have shown this season that we can share the demands of 2 tournaments easily between a squad of 24 or so players.

This has now brought us to a point where this is unarguably the most competitive squad I have seen in my time and most probably in the history of the club due to players such as Mcmanaman and Golobart showing they really are ready to compete for places on a weekly basis.

I have no doubt that IF and it is still an IF we make Europe Roberto and Whelan will be more than aware of the extra demand on the current squad and coupled with our new attraction of not only playing in the best shop window in the history of the Premier League but also having the opportunity to go to a tournament housing some of the biggest clubs around the world I would think of it as more of an opporunity than a burden as you put it.

While we are all getting giddy over the prospectof Europe ( im just about starting to calm down ) I hope the players keep their feet on the ground and concentrate on the rest of the season a game at a time.

Our Premier League survival is pivitol to the continued good work being done at the club and while we can look at Blackburn and Milwall and say on paper we should win this we more than any know that isnt always the case and this game is deffo ours to lose.

Lets hope these recent good feelings transfer to some great support for the rest of the season because IMO they deserve it.

IF we win the cup we will go straight into the group stage.

IF we are runners up (the more likely) we will enter at the playoff stage.

I’d be quite happy to get a trip to some remote part of Europe in the playoffs and lose safe in the knowledge that I’ve seen us play in Europe.

Not what I had in mind, but I’ll take it.

Inverness (who will hopefully be in the CL) or Dukla Prague (who probably won’t qualify at all) would be superb for personal reasons.

Do we or go straight into the group stage if the winners have already qualified for the Champions League ? otherwise it will unbalance the preset numbers for cup winners entering the competition.

I used to have a Dukla Prague away kit. I got it for Christmas. It was all I wanted.
