At last, someone who can post a bit of sense on here.
This coming from a bloke who curtails the longevity of threads with inane fishing related comments !![/quote]
Sometimes it’s very easy to get a bite.
6 February 2012 at 12:10 am #80588In my opinion you are usually born a fan of a club through your family. We get Latics fans crying about Liverpool, United, City, Everton fans living in Wigan who haven`t changed their support to Wigan.I firmly believe if you change your team once you will change it again. So to the Utd Liverpool Everton fans in Wigan who have continued to support them fair play. All the “Support your local team” tripe that`s spouted on here makes me vom. Where does that leave the likes of Donnelly then ? You cant` have it both ways you see.
And then we get middle aged blokes who only found Latics in the championship years wagging their finger about Everton fans. Where were these fans before then ? Before they found Latics in their middle age ? The same middle aged fans who last season were saying they weren`t renewing their season ticket again. Some fans i think just want to make an internet name for themselves. Makes you wonder doesn`t it :S

Not true
6 February 2012 at 12:22 am #80590I believe it is. Just my beliefs.
If you had to stake money on a fan who would stick by a cub through thick and thin would you put your money on ? A fan who has been with the club all his life or would you place it on one who changed his team ?
Dead easy question
6 February 2012 at 12:48 am #80594I was brought up a Liverpool supporter. Being born and raised in Liverpool in a “Red fanily” helped.
I had a Kop season ticket. I went to Cup Finals. I ended up (drunk) in the tunnel somehow in Munich when they were knocked out of the UEFA Cup one year. I went to Rome when they/we won the European Cup for the first time.
I then moved out to Garswood and stopped watching Liverpool for many years, except for the odd game. When my son came to an age for watching football live, even though his normal Christmas presents had been Liverpool shirts, I took him along to Springfeld Park. It was far easier than taking an 8-year-old onto the Kop. Liverpool were winning everything in sight. Wigan got relegated for the only time in their history that season. But despite that a love for the Latics grew that has not changed.
He and I are fully commited Latics supporters now. I was interviewed by Sky Sports outside Anfield a few years ago, in full blue and white “gear”. I have my own site, that I set up when we were in the 4th Division as I call it.
I now despise what Liverpool FC have become. Whinging martyrs. Not at all the team I supported so many years ago. I certainly would never go back to supporting them, and have no intention whatsoever of changing allegiance again. There is no reason to.
Dead easy answer.
But the difference between us, my friend, is that I know what I’m taking about.

Fair play to you GL but I do think you are the exception that proves the rule.
6 February 2012 at 1:32 am #80603With average crowds up by 10,000 compared to 10 years ago I wonder where all the others came from then !! At the end of the day the Everton fans are no different than the 3 of us in Leyland who should follow Nob End but we hate them ! My brother and his mate who I go on with have been watching Latics for 30 years and they have both said that if RM is still the boss come next season then a sabbatical is on the cards ! It was mentioned as you say last season as well but the benefit of the doubt was given ( Wrongly ! )
6 February 2012 at 2:38 am #80616And what the f*** has Roberto got to do with this thread, Phil? This is about supporting your team through thick and thin. So your three long-standing supporting mates won’t be missed, to be honest.
6 February 2012 at 3:14 am #80620Fair play to you Garswood for sticking around, very impressive and i take my hat off to you. As stated above i think you are an exeption to the rule and i admire you for that. But i stand by my point as has already been proven by filmoss on here. The middle aged blokes who jumped on the bandwagon wont be around for the long haul like your good self. Even if Mourinho was in charge they`d still be off on their toes as soon as it goes belly up.
I can honestly say i`ve been a one man team since birth,go as often as i can, will never turn my back on the club no matter who is in charge.
As for John Doe… Not even close my old china. But good guess.
6 February 2012 at 3:28 am #80622To me being a Utd,Liverpool,Chelsea,City etc fan is a trend.Being a Wigan Ath fan is a love affair.Ask why people support the big teams and you get “because Georgie Best played for them” or “because my dad bought me a Liverpool shirt for Xmas” and obviously “coz my dad supports them” well my dad was an egg but ive never set foot on menstral park in my life.We all have a choice and we cannot make Wiganners support the Latics, for me it was an easy pick I went once and became hooked none of my mates did the same.
6 February 2012 at 3:29 am #80623With average crowds up by 10,000 compared to 10 years ago I wonder where all the others came from then !!The big point here is that all ten thousand of them aren`t acting the Billy Big Potatoes on here and if they were i`d answer them the same way. Nor do they sit by their computer instead of going to games thinking they are Mr Know It All straight after the game. One thing about Martinez is that at the beginning of the season he was offered the Villa job, a bigger club and probably a bigger wage but he turned it down. He showed his loyalty and love for the club. You on the other hand are thinking of refusing to part with just over 200 quid next season if he is still around.
Says a lot in my book.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!6 February 2012 at 6:19 am #80631I have had a season ticket for the last 8 seasons and we pay £295 just for the record ! Griff, the reason I mentioned RM is because it was mentioned that last season our Jeff mentioned about not coming on if RM was still in charge ( That is what I was lead to believe ! ) ! Anyone doubting my season ticket purchases, will you give me a tenner for each one I can produce ? Didn’t think so !
