With average crowds up by 10,000 compared to 10 years ago I wonder where all the others came from then !!
The big point here is that all ten thousand of them aren`t acting the Billy Big Potatoes on here and if they were i`d answer them the same way. Nor do they sit by their computer instead of going to games thinking they are Mr Know It All straight after the game. One thing about Martinez is that at the beginning of the season he was offered the Villa job, a bigger club and probably a bigger wage but he turned it down. He showed his loyalty and love for the club. You on the other hand are thinking of refusing to part with just over 200 quid next season if he is still around.
Says a lot in my book.[/quote]
I beg to differ there on your Villa reference ! I think that he wasn’t totally confident in himself for such a high profile job and opted for the total safety of this job ! An opinion mind !
6 February 2012 at 2:36 pm #80638Fair play to you GL but I do think you are the exception that proves the rule.
This post has nothing really to do with the discussion except as a bit of free Monday morning education. :P
I am going to be a real smart a**e here and point out that “prove” in this context does not mean as most people think “validate”, as that actually would be nonsense if you think about it. You find an exception that a rule doesn’t apply to, so that somehow strengthens the rule?
The word is used in an old sense meaning to test. The exception tests the rule, to see if you still have a rule, or does it fail. Me, being an exception, means the rule fails.
The same use of “proof” or “prove” is in the saying “the proof of the pudding is in the eating” which is nonsense with current meaning, but becomes clearer if you are testing the pudding by eating it.
Same thing with “water proof” (tested against water” and “proof reading” (a test read).
As I say, not prolonging the substance of the thread, but thought I’d add a bit of enlightenment.
Not a lot of people know that.
6 February 2012 at 2:57 pm #80641Depends who their Dads supported, and also there were times in living memory when Everton were quite successful and were known for playing attractive football (they were known as “The School of Science”).Surely if you were a Wigan lad and wanted to chose a premiership team to follow other than Wigan, Everton would be the last team to choose.!!
Man they are a dull team zzzzzzzzzzz

This was my original point before the ” Goole Away ” crew turned on me !! Idiots who know nothing about me and have been way off the mark !!

But my point is that it wasn’t always so.

Which was a fair and reasoned reply unlike the 2 muppets who were so far off the mark its untrue !!
6 February 2012 at 5:17 pm #80656This was my original point before the ” Goole Away ” crew turned on me !! Idiots who know nothing about me and have been way off the mark !!I don`t think you know what your original point was. And why am i an idiot ? I know you started following us in the championship you have stated that many times. I also know you are middle aged. I also know you threatened not to go again because Martinez is in charge. So what bit am i getting wrong ? So come on where were you for all those years ? You stated your brother has been going 30 years so what stopped you ? And what got you interested ? Sky Sports ?
Middle aged blokes who found football late in life acting the big “I am”. Trying to make a name for themselves on a messageboard. When it comes to listening about Wigan Ath i`d prefer to listen to my kids who have been going longer, very rarely moan and have never once threatened not to go.
Pity you never went in the non league or the early years. You might understand a little bit of what we went through in the dark days. Bandwagon jumper
6 February 2012 at 5:36 pm #80658I would’t say he is the exception to the rule.
i have basically identical circumstances.6 February 2012 at 5:50 pm #80659Same here – although Man Utd to Wigan…..
Never looked back and never will.
Although just to add balance to the argument I went school with a lad who was Man Utd all through school then bolton then west ham and I beleive he is now back to man utd….
6 February 2012 at 5:55 pm #80660I’ve got a mate from Stoke who’s a big Liverpool fan – and has all his kids into them and even has a dog called Gerrard.
He recently had someone post some old school pictures of him on Facebook in which he is wearing a variety of Everton shirts.
The abuse he received from all quarters was overwhelming.

You said that I didn’t go on games and was commenting on my computer shortly after games or words to that effect ! My original point was my surprise at a group of Wiganers all friends and all Everton fans ! As Garswood pointed out it was down to era which I had obviously overlooked. I don’t know where you get this ” Big I am ” thing from either, you seem to have some issues about ” Bandwagon jumpers ” as you call them. Well I have been so interested in football that I played myself up until my knee gave up on me and I decided to pack in, it was then that I decided to join my Brother and his mates going on Wigan home games and a smattering of away ones to. Now in the 8 or so years I have been going I can count on ONE hand the amount of home games that I have missed ! I am sorry if you have a problem with new comers but we pay out money just like yourself and we are entitled to opinions and if I think that something needs addressing I will address it and you are entitled to reasoned debate but as you have stated you wont bother ! Fine with me but you have got to understand that thousands didn’t witness the dark days thousands !! I prefer to live in the now and the past is past so I suggest you get over it !
7 February 2012 at 1:13 am #80731Can you not claim something back for entertaining clients or summut? :dry:Jr, I doubt very much that the taxman would class such a thing as entertainment !! ;)
7 February 2012 at 1:37 am #80733How bad is your knee? You’re not a centre forward by any chance?
Might get a game ahead of rodders, he’s defo missed more home games than you over the last few years!7 February 2012 at 1:48 am #80735How bad is your knee? You’re not a centre forward by any chance?

7 February 2012 at 3:08 am #80741In my opinion you are usually born a fan of a club through your family. We get Latics fans crying about Liverpool, United, City, Everton fans living in Wigan who haven`t changed their support to Wigan.I firmly believe if you change your team once you will change it again. So to the Utd Liverpool Everton fans in Wigan who have continued to support them fair play. All the “Support your local team” tripe that`s spouted on here makes me vom. Where does that leave the likes of Donnelly then ? You cant` have it both ways you see.And then we get middle aged blokes who only found Latics in the championship years wagging their finger about Everton fans. Where were these fans before then ? Before they found Latics in their middle age ? The same middle aged fans who last season were saying they weren`t renewing their season ticket again. Some fans i think just want to make an internet name for themselves. Makes you wonder doesn`t it :S
Not only does he have a problem with Bandwagon Jumpers but he appears to have some sort of gripe with middle aged men !!
