Those things are best kept in the privacy of your own home pskl.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!26 November 2013 at 3:28 am #123795Isn’t the original kept at Wembley…sure I once read somewhere that the winning team lift the one the FA hold at Wembley and are given a replica before they leave the stadium…may be wrong, but think we get a replica to keep once the other goes back in March
26 November 2013 at 1:00 pm #123817I am not speaking as SLO on here (Cockney Latic), so don’t take my views to be that of the Club or WASC.You mean apart from:
The players Dinner
The 16 times it has been at the DW store in town
The two events at Sharpy’s
The 40+ schools it has visited
The 12+ School Summer Fairs it went to
All the time it came to Tesco before the Cup Final
The many times it has been to WYZ
Plus many more opportunitiesOnly one of these has been ‘exclusive’ to the Supporters Club… and even then, friends and family came along who weren’t members.
I see there is some sort of misconception about the Supporters Club, you know it is a non-profit volunteer organisation don’t you. 20% of the adult fans of Wigan Athletic are members and anybody can join, so I can’t see where the ‘exclusive club’ comes into it.
Each volunteer takes no money for the time they put in, most are there every match day giving 3-5 hours of their time, home and away. Some give even more behind the scenes, keeping the website up to date, taking online coach bookings, organising coaches, organising events, players, bands, charities etc….
This year so far we have raised over £8,000 for charities including the NW Air Ambulance, Joseph’s Goal, Cheeky Monkeys, Mawdsley Cricket Club, Don’t watch alone, Wigan Youth Zone and more.
Sorry for going on one, but where exactly has the exclusive bit come from? It isn’t like we have told anybody they cannot become a member, in fact the infrastructure of WASC (and the core members) is the same as when we were at Springfield Park!!!!!
However JT, you are only promoting the supporters club event on here, rather than any public events to display the trophy. In your role can you take that back to the clubthat they need to do more to promote the trophy to the fans.
As a season ticket holder I have yet to see any material drop through my letter box telling me when and where I can see the trophy. Even though I wasn’t looking to spend money at a players dinner, been aware of when the trophy was available to view in the DW store (mmm isn’t that a commercial property not responsible for the trophy, can my local bakery display it or does it need to be making money for Whelan?), Schools…… not really a great thing for your average season ticket holder with no kids in schools. And yes I could have gone to Tesco’s to see it if I didn’t have a job. Seems like lots of opportunities for the average fan to get to see it.
Exclusive club is a reference to an organisation that charges me to join before I can now see the benefits of the trophy, rather than the fans who pay week in week out but decide not to pay extra to join the club, and have events with the trophy promoted.
How dare you bring in the charity work as a defence in your argument. That wasn’t my point and I am sure you have the intellect to understand that.
Here is an idea for your official club role. Have the trophy on display at the ground before each home game to allow the paying fans to see it.!26 November 2013 at 2:13 pm #123818Here is an idea for your official club role. Have the trophy on display at the ground before each home game to allow the paying fans to see it.!The trophy IS on show prior to every home game. It is sat alongside the Challenge Cup, Super League trophy and many other trophies won over the years by both clubs as well as various other awards and memorabilia. ;)
I’m pretty sure that if some muppet hadn’t dropped the trophy at one of the events it has been at (not a WASC event BTW) then it would have been shown more than it has been, but the £10k bill to fix it is probably putting DW off the idea.
26 November 2013 at 7:22 pm #123849I am a member of the supporters club, but don’t always get the opportunity to go before every game.
It was only by going before the Brighton game that I found out about the Ben Watson pics, but I’d really like the opportunity for my son to get a pic with the cup if possible.
Any help would be great, didn’t really want to trigger a debate
Thanks
