Are there going to be any more opportunities to hold or have a picture taken with the cup before we have to hand it back?
Thanks
24 November 2013 at 1:52 pm #123684Think positive, we might retain it !
Would love to beat Everton at the DW on the way to the final.
24 November 2013 at 2:37 pm #123685So your dreams are still haunted by Roberto.
It’s hard to recover from a broken heart.

It has to go back in March, I believe.
25 November 2013 at 1:09 am #123730Members of the Supporters Club will get more opportunities, for those that go into the bar, they will know as I announced when the next time will be.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
25 November 2013 at 4:45 am #123740There are a lot of replicas!
Where is the real one?

Whilst the club are obviously open to the idea of more photo opportunities as you have pointed out, I would hope that these are not all going to be tied in to being a member of the supporters club.
There are plenty of Latics fans who for whatever reason can’t or don’t want to be members of the supporters club & I feel they should be given the chance to have their photo taken with the Cup without having to join supporters club
I don’t have an objection to the supporters club using the cup as an oppportunity to raise funds but I just think that those who don’t want to give money to the supporters club should be given an opportunity too
My suggestion to the club was actually going to be to charge a fee & donate the proceeds to the Youth Zone or Joseph’s Goal or something25 November 2013 at 4:18 pm #123758The Supporters Club benefit in no way by having the FA Cup in the Bar.
By default, any money raised from the FA Cup will go to WYZ or in some circumstances a designated charity if it goes to an event or place where it raising money for a Charity.
I asked for the Cup to be brought down to the Bar because of Members asking for an opportunity. Due to quite a bit of damage that has had to be repaired on the Cup, I think ‘hands on’ opportunities will be very limited and more for schools and associations directly linked with the club.
Please don’t think this is a way of WASC raising money, we do that through the membership fees. This helps us reduce the cost of ‘executive’ coaches travel to EVERY Latics Domestic fixtures (even the ones where only 25 go), allow us to do special events/annual dinners at good rates and also to do a draw at every game where lucky winners can experience a day in hospitality.
Being able to get the Cup into the lounge is just added benefit, like the free pie and peas days we put on or the entertainment we have on from time to time.
With regards to the SLO role, I will ask when I have my next meeting (Thursday) and get back to you….. but there is an SLO dedicated Forum separated out on the WASC Site – click here

25 November 2013 at 4:37 pm #123759To be fair, it does smack of the exclusive club to have these events with the supporters club. Where is the open day to fans to come along and get photos taken and optional donation to charity?
25 November 2013 at 5:03 pm #123762I am not speaking as SLO on here (Cockney Latic), so don’t take my views to be that of the Club or WASC.
You mean apart from:
The players Dinner
The 16 times it has been at the DW store in town
The two events at Sharpy’s
The 40+ schools it has visited
The 12+ School Summer Fairs it went to
All the time it came to Tesco before the Cup Final
The many times it has been to WYZ
Plus many more opportunitiesOnly one of these has been ‘exclusive’ to the Supporters Club… and even then, friends and family came along who weren’t members.
I see there is some sort of misconception about the Supporters Club, you know it is a non-profit volunteer organisation don’t you. 20% of the adult fans of Wigan Athletic are members and anybody can join, so I can’t see where the ‘exclusive club’ comes into it.
Each volunteer takes no money for the time they put in, most are there every match day giving 3-5 hours of their time, home and away. Some give even more behind the scenes, keeping the website up to date, taking online coach bookings, organising coaches, organising events, players, bands, charities etc….
This year so far we have raised over £8,000 for charities including the NW Air Ambulance, Joseph’s Goal, Cheeky Monkeys, Mawdsley Cricket Club, Don’t watch alone, Wigan Youth Zone and more.
Sorry for going on one, but where exactly has the exclusive bit come from? It isn’t like we have told anybody they cannot become a member, in fact the infrastructure of WASC (and the core members) is the same as when we were at Springfield Park!!!!!

25 November 2013 at 7:56 pm #123780Thanks for your reply Jayt
I wasn’t attempting to have a go at the supporters club or you by the way.
I know the supporters club work damn hard to get as good a deal on all sorts of stuff for Latics fans as possible but it just isn’t for me & I don’t want to join it.
I also know that the club have taken it round quite a bit but I don’t live or work in Wigan & so am not able to be a frequent visitor to the DW or Tesco in town, tickets for the players dinner were very limted & I couldn’t get tickets, likewise the 2 events at Sharpy’s and being 38 am not at any of the schools they’ve taken it to & I think it takes me past eligibility for the youth zone too!!! ;) ;)My proposal is just for a club organised event on an advertised date where you don’t have to be a member of anything, season ticket holder or whatever & for a fee you can book a slot to turn up & have your picture taken with it (a club organised photo or one organised yourself) – with all proceeds going to charity.
I’ll post this on that SLO link too if you want me to
25 November 2013 at 8:42 pm #123783It wasn’t aimed at you Tyldsley….
SLO stuff will invariably get lost on here, plus many people have the same questions/concerns so if it is on the SLO forum I can answer for everybody rather than 20 individuals.
